Have you ever tried to say something in English, but your mind just goes blank?
You might know what you want to express,
but finding the right way to say it feels impossible.
This is a common challenge for many beginners.
But don't worry, there's a simple way to train your brain
to access the right words and phrases quickly without overthinking.
Alright, let me show you the method I use to become fluent in English.
I call it the interview mimic technique.
I'll walk you through it using a TOEFL speaking question as an example.
So you will understand how it works.
Let's pick a short clip from a celebrity or expert interview,
someone you enjoy listening to.
Play it once or twice.
And then you notice the part that resonates with you.
You just copy it right away.
It is cyberbullying.
And so how did you deal with all that?
So then I was like, okay, I don't want to believe these people.
I don't want to agree with them on any level.
I want to, and I, I want to figure out who I am.
I want to learn who I am.
And I don't want to feel like I'm, I'm fragile every time I leave the house
because I'm so dependent on what other people think about me.
So I just took a step back.
And as Matthew would say, Matthew McConaughey, my co-star in Interstellar would say,
I just kept living.
And it's been a really cool journey.
And I feel like I've arrived in a place where, you know,
maybe not every minute of every day, but way more than I used to.
I have a tremendous amount of love and compassion for everyone else.
And best of all, I have it for myself, which I've never enjoyed before.
I really love the phrases she used and the emotions they carry,
like figure out who I am, love yourself,
dependent on what other people think about me,
have a tremendous amount of love and compassion for someone.
To make sure you'll never forget these phrases,
link them with your deepest emotions or experiences.
Now let's apply what we learned to a speaking practice.
TOEFL question.
Talk about a person who inspired you.
It's your time to answer it.
One person who has really inspired me is Anne Hathaway.
I admire her because she overcame severe cyber bullying many years ago.
She said in the interview that the bad experience actually helped her
learn to love herself and figure out who she is.
And she stopped being dependent on what other people thought of her
and kept moving forward.
So now she has arrived at a place
where she has a tremendous amount of love and compassion for others.
And most importantly, she has it for herself.
And I think her journey has inspired me to love myself a little bit more.
Isn't that simple? Just learn it and use it.
Anyway, all learning starts with imitation.
Just like babies learn to speak by mimicking their parents
or software engineers learn to program
by imitating and rewriting others' code.
Similarly, you can train your brain to speak English fluently
by imitating great speakers.
Once we've done lots of imitation,
the words will come naturally when you need them.
Thank you for watching.
