We finally can reveal the brand new real stone floor in our chateau kitchen. And we install a new light over the second hand kitchen table. (not sure about those two items, what do you think? Kepp them? Change them for something else?

Six months to finish a kitchen might make us eligible for the longest kitchen makeover
in modern day France. But then it's a kitchen like no other, in a house like no other,
with a lord of the manor like, well he's quite special. We are very ambitious today and our
dream is to finish the kitchen today and to move in next week. Is it a dream? Will it happen? Only
time will tell. And in order to achieve this noble goal I will install the door lock today and look
I have a box with all the things that I find. This is an old lock and it might even be the
lock that used to be on this door. Actually probably not because it's not a perfect fit,
but it's certainly a similar lock that used to be here. Beautiful original brass
knobs, at least 100 years old. I like them. Installing a door mechanism is pretty easy
and straightforward, provided of course you have basic notions in advanced physics like me,
mechanics and an IQ of 160. Screws have all different sizes, it's so hard to
distinguish them and to find the right size. I need to measure.
Now unfortunately I didn't find the counterpiece here, but I found a more contemporary one. It's
almost the same size and once it's in place nobody will actually be able to tell the difference.
Because I didn't measure properly I only put one screw in, I try it,
and then if it works I put the other in. It works. Just lock myself in.
I even have a little ring to make it look nicer. Does it look nicer with the ring? I'm not sure.
Look at this. How would you call this, if not, an enormous success? Good. Yes, very good,
I'm happy. By the way, there's no need to tell me in the comments that I need a haircut. I know when
the hair is long like this I get this clownish bald spot here. Women like it. But hey guys,
I'm married already so there's no point for me to attract even more women into my life.
And so I go to the hairdresser tomorrow at nine o'clock in the morning. Open, door closed,
open, door closed. Next job is a bit tricky because I need to use a gun
a silicon gun to get silicon around this corner because here inside this is a place for the
coffee machines and tea producing machinery. This has been varnished by Anna several times so that
should be fine but I don't want water to get into this corner so I bought this acrylic product. But
I want to get a very clean corner here. The guy who installed the marble worktop did a really
good job with the silicon in the corners. He had a custom-made spatula to do the angles.
So I just found the equivalent from a Home Depot shop. It looks a bit flimsy and gory. I don't
want to use too much but I still want it to go in the crack. I'm going to change the strategy
and do the old-fashioned tape method. Will I make a career as a silicon seal influencer?
Probably not. Is it a catastrophe? Probably yes. Yes, it is a catastrophe. But on the bright side
it's going to be hidden. Nobody's going to see it because there's a coffee machine, a coffee grinder,
a milk warmer, another coffee machine and whatever I find to hide this mess.
Philip, what just arrived? A new toy. It's not a toy. It's a necessary thing because
our lawnmower was definitely small for what we had to do so we got a bigger one. You got an upgrade.
You've been shopping again. I've been shopping again. A serious, serious machine. Yes. This
one looks so cute in comparison. There it goes. Are you a bit emotional? A little bit, a little bit.
But I always say lawnmowers are like women. First when they go... Hey, hey, hey. Don't even go there.
Okay. I totally trust you. I don't trust me. Painting is finished. What? It's not finished? Yeah.
For now. What do you mean? There's a cupboard up there that hasn't even been built.
Let's forget the cupboard. Let's forget. Let's forget the cupboard for now. We don't know when
Benoit will be back so for now we're pretending as long as the door is shut nobody can see that
it's not finished. So I think it might be time for clearing up and finally taking off the protection
of the floor. What do you think? I think that's a big moment and they can't wait. Me too. But Philip,
then it means we need to be really careful that we don't spill anything on the floor. But there's
nothing to spill because there's nothing to do anymore. We're finished. Except for when I
paint the cupboard. You just said forget the cupboard.
You ready? I'm ready. Let's do it. Ziggy looks ready as well. Are you going to help me, Ziggy?
Ziggy? He's in a funny position. I don't know what he's looking at. Or the shadow. He's obsessed
with shadows. You know what I've just realized? It's underneath the radiators. How do we manage
that? Yeah, just lift them up. By myself? Well, I'm filming. I can't help you. One, two, three,
go. It's really heavy. Okay. I can't believe you're taking the protection off. Yeah. After
all this time. That is so satisfying. It suddenly looks finished when you see a clean floor.
Wow. Also the dog. It's time to go. Ziggy, come on. Come on.
He doesn't understand what's going on here. He's like, what's happening? Let me out.
What is it? It's a huge room and you want to stay in between my legs. What's that?
Come on, Zig. Over here. Ziggy. Over here. Ziggy.
And now Anna left and the kids, they went to the swimming pool and I need to finish this by myself.
And off we go with this. For those who haven't seen the flooring video, this is a stone called
Pierre de Bourgogne. It comes from Burgundy, so not from too far from here. And it's a perfect stone
for almost every room. If you use it in the kitchen, you do need some waterproofing, a water
repellent. However, there's some marks here. And once you put the water repellent on, whatever is
marked will stay marked forever. I need to clean this now and Anna can just go on with the
waterproofing. I have no idea who made this, but to be on the safe side, let's call it Benoit's
stain. I came off the grouting. That's good news. There's so much reading to do Anna. Yeah.
And watering. And watering. We are really behind in the garden. We've been focusing on the kitchen
and the guest house obviously, but the garden really needs some TCL. TCL, what's TCL? Tender
caring love. Tender caring love. How much have you done so far? Just this area here. Maybe a fourth
of the things we need to do. And it's about an hour. It's never ending watering here.
It's another project for the future, a watering system. I want to go to bed now.
I just came out to photograph the beautiful sunset, so. And then you saw something even
more beautiful. What was that? Your husband. Oh, oh yeah. Are you still happy with the table?
Yeah, I think so. I need to see it in the kitchen. How are we going to do this? It's really heavy.
Yeah, it is. I think we need Charlie. Super heavy.
Walk closer to me. Okay. Yeah. Isn't it too far away here? It feels too far. Okay. Yeah,
a little bit. No. Okay. Maybe not. It's funny. I didn't like the color before,
but somehow it works in here. Or is it still a bit too dark? I don't know. I actually think
maybe we need something dark because of everything being so light. The woodwork and then the walls.
Yeah. And I like it with the green gray of the island. If it would be a little bit more matte,
maybe it would be nicer. Yeah. Maybe what we can do is sand it a little bit and just find like a
wax or something. Now it's getting tricky because we don't have the chairs. Yeah. We don't know
which chairs we will have. We don't even know if there will be a bench. However, we need to
install the light and the light needs to be in the middle of the table. If there's a bench,
the table would be further there. If there wouldn't be a bench, it would be here. You know
what? Yeah. We have some chairs in the attic. Chairs that are all nice. Yeah. That we found here
and we could... I think there's one chair. It's a brutal mess. It didn't used to be this messy
before we came in here. Yeah. When the kitchen is done, that's a good project for us, no? Yes.
Yeah. It's different to how I remember. It's funny. Both of these chairs
are from Tornet. This on the left side is a bit newer. Yeah. It's from a designer called
Breuer. It's from the 30s. This one? No. The other one. Yeah. The same company. Same Austrian
German company producing them. Yeah. It's interesting because we had these ones already
in our old kitchen. Yes. Because I love them. But it's strange because it's got like a grey
back. Yeah. I think somebody painted that grey. It's been added, I think. But we could still look
if a black chair would work. Yeah. Oh, it's full of cobwebs. I need to hoover that. Well,
it's as good as it's going to get. It looks clean. This is going to give us an idea.
What do you think? No. No. I think you need something more simple. Or maybe lighter chairs.
No, the original idea of the bistro style chairs was nice, but maybe they need to be in lighter
wood, not in dark. So all of that for nothing. So I'm going to install the lights and then we do
some research to find the perfect chairs for this table. Sounds good. Sounds like a plan.
I like it here because it feels like I'm the man in the family and everybody else obeys and
does what they want. Breakfast. Who are you talking to? My imaginary wife who always does
what I want. Here it is. Our new dining table light. Yeah, that's obviously too low. I think
we can all agree that this is too low. If there only was a second person in this house with good
taste and aesthetical judgment. Oh, Anna. I completely forgot about Anna. Anna, I need your
help. I don't know. That's a bit low. I know. That's way too low. I know. I know. That's why I
call you in. I'm not calling you in to say it's too low. I know that. I call you in to find out
how much too low it is. Much too low. It's fine for you. Yeah. But people over one meter forty,
they might, you know, run into it. Pick it up. I mean. How does it look compared to the others?
Still very low. No, it looks strange. Okay.
I must say I'm still not happy with the height of these. I think they're all
too high. And because Anna is busy now with the check-in, I think I can
lower all of them. She doesn't realize it. And then she comes and we'll be happy.
What do you think? Much better. Much better. It was a good day. Very good day today. And I'm glad
you spent it with us. And I hope you enjoyed it. And if you would like to see a bit more
