Calisthenics skills can be extremely intimidating at the beginning, and I feel you. You get on
social media, you see planches, levers, and all this crazy stuff, but the beauty of a bodyweight
training is that there is always something we can do at our current fitness level. In this video,
I want to show you seven easy skills that I believe everybody can learn and that are going
to prepare you for more advanced skills in the future. So without further ado, family, it's
practice time. Let's go! First is the headstand. This position will create the confidence and body
awareness you need to be upside down. You can do the bounded version with the hands wrapped behind
your head or the tripod version with the hands and head forming a triangle. Use a wall behind
you for safety first. These are the two easiest ways to enter each position. Once you're comfortable,
you can start working on tuck presses, straddle presses, full presses, which will teach you the
correct leg movement for the handstand press. Next up, we have crow pose or frog stance. This
position will improve your balance, condition your wrist, and build basic shoulder strength
for more advanced skills like bent arm handstand presses and handstand push-ups. For the easiest
variation, keep your knees outside of your triceps. Next, do it with your knees as high on
your triceps. And finally, with the knees hooked in your elbows. Then, explore with different
movements of the legs and even single leg crow when you feel ready. Next, we have the famous
L-sit. Incredibly important position to build upper body strength, core and hip flexor strength.
It's also a skill that serves as a transitory movement to other skills. Start on tuck and
progress over time. And then move on to the floor when you feel ready. Experiment with the hanging
version too, which is easier in most cases. Let's move on now to the pull-up bar with a skin
decathlon. This dynamic movement will improve shoulder mobility, increase body awareness,
strengthen your scapulas, core and forearms, and open the door for the lever skills. Start practicing
it on a low bar and break up the movement into segments. Once you move to the pull-up bar, don't
be afraid if you get stuck on the German hang. Just release your hands and fall safely on your feet.
Next, we have the elbow lever. This position will improve your sense of balance and condition your
wrists and open the door for the one-arm elbow lever later on. Hook the elbows right above your
hip bones with your palms facing down. Place the hands on the ground and lift your legs. For the
easiest progression, use an elevated surface and start with diamond legs, then straddle and finally
fall. Six. Shoulder stand. This is a preparatory position for the handstand that will improve your
balance and body awareness and increase shoulder strength. Hook both shoulders on the parallettes,
elbows in, and kick your legs into the air. The body will be in a diagonal shape with the forearms
perpendicular to the floor. Use a wall for safety if needed. Finally, we have the beautiful handstand.
Despite being a hard skill, it's definitely one that it's worth investing time at the beginning
of your calisthenics journey. Balance, strength, awareness, wrist conditioning, the handstand has it
all. We recommend to master the headstand, crow, L-sit, and shoulder stand first to build a strong
foundation before jumping into the handstand. Then start practicing towards the wall and eventually
off the wall. It's a complex skill so please don't rush here. That's it family, we really hope you
