What happens if you throw out your key (fob) WHILE driving Don't be stupid enough to do this..
So I've been getting a lot of questions
since my previous video,
what happens if you push the button while driving?
In the comment section,
there was a lot of people that were asking
what would happen if you were to throw
the smart key access fob out the window
while you were driving?
It's an interesting question.
I had never thought of it myself before,
but what were to happen
if you were to throw it out the window?
Having a smart key access fob,
you don't have a key that you stick in the ignition.
You can basically keep this in your pocket,
in your purse, wherever it is,
or stick it in the cup holder,
allowing it to be picked up from whoever, whenever.
And basically, someone could literally throw it
out the window while you were driving.
Maybe you have a little child that would pick it up
and maybe throw it somewhere, you don't know.
Maybe you have an irate wife or husband
that's pissed off and throws it out the window.
You never know.
When you have a smart key access fob,
it is obviously needed to be inside the vehicle
to be able to start it and drive.
However, if it's thrown out the window,
what happens?
So as I just lost the key,
the vehicle is not telling me any information whatsoever
about the key missing from the car,
which is a bit scary.
So if the key were to get lost while you're driving
and the vehicle does not tell you anything,
you don't really know that it's gone
until you get to the destination you were going
and you stop the car.
So once you get to where you're going
and you put the vehicle in park,
it's still not indicating that the key is missing
until you open and close the door.
It says no key detected.
This is the moment where you're,
because you have no idea where your key is
and if you turn the car off,
it says restart now or key is needed.
And then this takes about 15 or 20 seconds.
And then once it is shut off completely,
you have no way of starting your car.
However, if you start the car
within that 15 or 20 seconds, it works.
As you can tell now, put my foot on the brake,
it says no key detected.
Lucky me, I know where my key is.
It's over there, I'm gonna go get it.
So since I knew where my key was,
I can now start the car again.
So let's see what happens if I throw the key out
before I move in the car.
Yes, it says no key detected.
It didn't give me that warning while I was driving though.
It only gave it to me when I threw the key out
before the car was moving.
So to recap here,
if you were to lose your smart key access fob
while you're out driving,
say it gets thrown out the window,
the car won't tell you that the key is gone
until you get to where you were going,
you stop the vehicle and you open the door.
It then gives you the warning signal
that no key is detected
and you have to restart your vehicle
within 15 to 20 seconds.
It doesn't give you the 15 to 20 seconds mark there.
But if you do not start your vehicle
within that timeframe, you're...
So that's that guys.
Let me know what you think of the video
in the comment section below.
Did you find it informative and useful?
I had never thought of this myself.
But if the situation were to happen,
at least you know how your vehicle is going to react,
at least on this Ford Fusion that I have right here.
If you've ever experienced this in real life
and not a reenactment like this,
let me know as well what happened
and how did you solve that situation.
