I have been absolutely obsessed with the blowout 90s hairstyle that has been making the rounds.
I have been blabbing on and on about the fact that it's all I want to be able to do at home.
But I am incapable of giving myself a salon blowout.
And the very expensive tools that exist in the world to give you a blowout require a
lot of time and effort.
And though I appreciate the look that it gives us, I wanted to find a lazy way to do the
blowout hairstyle at home.
Starting with washed hair.
My hair is wet and I've got nothing in it.
I'm going to show you everything that I do.
So, let's do a blowout, my friends.
Mousse is a product that I don't use a lot, but I have recently realized it's a product
I need to use more of.
So we're starting with the mousse.
Whatever mousse suits your fancy, give it a shake, and we're going to take a nice big
foam puff in our hands, rub it together, and we are going to focus this at the roots of
the hair.
And the biggest difference for me that I've noticed with volume is that it helps to kind
of smooth out the top of my hair.
If you suffer from a lot of frizz like I do, this kind of helps to tame that.
But it also seems to give a lot of nice volume at the same time.
So I just literally rub that with my hands through my hair.
Can I also note that I am not a hair professional, so any hair professionals, if you're like,
this girl is crazy, don't listen to anything she says, that's totally fine, but this is
just what I've been doing with my hair and I wanted to share it with you, so.
Also my ring.
Sorry, Dan, I love you dearly, but we got to do our hair without it.
Look at the root, like it literally already lifts it in the root.
It's incredible.
So mousse, step one.
Then use any kind of leave-in conditioner, any kind of heat protectant, whatever you
feel, something that's going to protect the strands, hydrate the strands, give it a little
bit of extra love, whatever you feel.
Give some hydration to the lengths of your hair and just rub that in.
Now this next step is not necessary, but I've been thinking about hair oils and how I apply
it and usually I apply my hair oils once my hair is dry.
However, this one in particular says you can apply it to damp or dry hair.
I kind of wanted to treat it like I would my skincare, like when I'm doing my skincare,
I pat on the oil after to soak it all in.
So if I'm putting hydrating things on my hair, then wouldn't I want to add the oil on top
to do the same thing?
I don't know.
Either way, I'm doing it.
You don't have to do it.
You can apply a hair oil after, but I'm just putting it into my hair for extra hydration.
Also my hair is bleached very dry and very dead and it can use all of the hydration that
it can get.
So there we have it.
Our hair is swimming in a billion pounds of product and we are ready to blow dry.
I have absolutely no technique when it comes to blow drying.
I literally just flip my head upside down, blow dry, and I really wish that I could do
the round brush blow dry, but I can't.
I can't.
So I'm just going to blow dry my hair.
Whatever that looks like for you.
Just get your hair dry.
Ta-da!
All right.
The hair is dry.
Now we have to part it however way you wish.
I am a middle part gal.
Through and through.
Do I need a mirror to do this?
Yes, I do.
All right.
Now I'm going to grab my hair into two halves and we're going to pin half of those and get
quarters in our hair.
I don't know if you guys can tell, but the mousse just gives such a volume to the hair.
Honestly, it's like a thickening, volumizing agent.
I love.
Why have I not included mousse in my hair routine before?
So the hair is clipped and I do want to note before we begin curling that if you are proficient
in the world of rollers, then you can absolutely skip all of this and just embrace your roller's
life.
I can't do Velcro rollers.
It just doesn't work for me.
And I know that there are other options.
You could try some hot rollers, some other kind of rollers.
I just wanted to be able to make do with what I had, which is a curling iron.
So if you can do rollers, all the power to you.
I bow down to your skill.
And at this point, you can absolutely just do your rollers and you probably already know
how to get a fabulous blowout at home.
You don't need me.
You don't need this video.
So for those of you who go bald every time you use rollers, this next step is for you.
So grab a curling iron.
Now typically when I curl my hair, I start at the root of my hair and I curl all the
way down.
My little lazy girl blowout hack is literally just to curl the bottoms, the ends of your
hair.
It is truly the easiest and fastest thing to do.
So we're not going to point away from our face.
We're going to point down and we're just going to curl the ends up like that.
So I'm not curling the entire length of the hair, I'm just curling the ends and we're
going to wiggle it out and we should just have a nice little bottom poof like that.
Grab a new section, brush it out, curl the bottom of the hair up, hold it for however
you feel is right.
I do like 10, 10 seconds, is that right?
And then we just wiggle it out.
You can give it a little brush and that is one side done.
So once our bottom section is done, we're going to do the same thing on the top.
So for this last section in the front, I'm just taking away my little shorter bits.
We're going to save those for later, so just make sure you separate them.
We're going to curl this last little chunk of hair and we're going to leave the front
bits for now.
So same thing on this side, I am parting the hair and keeping my shorter bits free and
doing this last curl.
So now that we've curled the rest of our hair, I'm just pinning it back so that I don't grab
any of those other pieces.
The front pieces, this is kind of what makes the blowout come to life, okay?
And this is where if you are a roller gal, if you have Velcro rollers, then that's great
for you and you can do that.
My fiance Dan keeps telling me that I just need to buy one roller.
He's like, babe, come on, this is embarrassing, but I kind of love my little toilet paper
roll trick, okay?
So this is my beloved toilet paper roll and I have these little metal clips that I bought
on Amazon and this is what I use instead of a roller.
I do think that I could use a wider roller and that will be something that I will look
for in the future for this.
But until then, I've already got this at home, I might as well just put my toilet roll to
good use.
So I have literally been keeping this with the two clips and this is how I do my front
bits.
So I'm going to gather them together.
I have so many baby hairs that just fly, but I'm just brushing them up together and then
I'm going to curl them away from my face.
I don't let this sit for too long because my hair is really like dead and brittle here,
but just making sure to put a curl into the hair, then I'm just going to give it a little
brush just to loosen it up and I wrap it in the toilet paper roll like so.
Clip it on both sides and now you can just let that sit for as long as you want.
Typically I would let this sit while I'm doing my makeup, but I already did my makeup because
obviously I'm filming a video and I want it to look cute, okay?
But you technically don't even need to let it sit.
You could actually just curl it and leave it like that, but I feel like this just helps
to give a little bit more of that bounce around the face, a little bit more of that volume
and it just makes kind of a difference.
So we're just going to let it sit for a couple minutes and go back to the rest of the hair.
So by now it's settled.
She's looking bouncy.
She's looking cute.
We're going to hit it with some hairspray.
When I hairspray, I like to like put my fingers through it to give it some airiness and then
I spray as I lift.
Does that make a difference?
I don't know.
In my heart it does.
This is technically not a necessary step because the mousse does such a good job for adding
volume, but if you wanted to take a little bit of texture spray, if you wanted that extra
level of oomph and bounce, you can spritz in a little texture spray.
Give it a fluff.
Give it a zhuzh.
And look at that volume.
And when you feel ready, we can remove the clips, remove the toilet paper roll.
Now this hair routine still requires effort.
It still requires product, but most of these things I already had in my hair routine and
I was already using for the other hairstyles that I do as a daily part of my life.
So this was just something that I could do to achieve that blowout style look without
needing to add on million dollar products and a million other steps.
So for my ladies out there who are like me and we're sick and tired of doing my exact
same waves and curls and I wanted to add a little bit more of a blowout volume into my
life, this was the way that we could do it.
Achieving a very similar style look to all those hot little 90s blowout babes out there
in a slightly easier, less time consuming format.
So this is how I have been doing my hair.
I have been loving it, loving the toilet paper roll in my life, and I hope that you guys
enjoyed it too.
I hope this was helpful.
If you have any tips for me, I'd love to hear them in the comments down below and please
do let me know if you guys try out this hairstyle.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks for watching, guys.
I hope you enjoyed it and I will see you all very, very soon for a new video.
Bye!
