Adventure. An unusual and exciting, typically hazardous, experience or activity.
This is Cliffhanger, an epic adventure.
Hey everyone, Joshua Nesser, Trails Off-Road, and we're in Moab, Utah on Cliffhanger,
and this is one of the most legendary trails here in Moab, Utah, known for this insane
obstacle behind me. Well, we're on the trail and we're moving, so why don't you sit back,
stay tuned, and enjoy this video. Our trip starts early morning, as we want to be the
first on the trail. As we work our way up Cane Creek Road, we know what's coming,
and it makes me nervous. Good morning. So today, we're at Cliffhanger here in Moab,
Utah, and this is a Jeep Badger Honor Trail. It is one of the hard trails here,
and what probably is the highest scare factor trail out here. Well, we're going to air down
the jeeps really quick, and then we're going to head on the trail. Let's keep going. So from the
get-go, this trail is hard. Many people say the hardest obstacles are right here in the beginning,
which obviously just makes it that much more nerve-wracking, knowing if they call this hard
up there could be insane to impassable. That's it, you're on the line straight down that.
Oh, never mind. You dragged it just barely. You almost touched a tire carrier's
pound planche. Well, we made it down the first set of steps. Dude, awesome trail. Moving.
Then, just around the corner, there's a cool little creek crossing, but on the other side,
there's another large ledge. After Ryan made that look easy, he coaxed me into trying
the straight 10-foot ledge. Yep, there you go. That was perfect, dude. Impressed with the JL.
Didn't use lockers, just 38s and a two and a half inch lift. It's doing pretty good. So always
remember, when you come to a gate, you leave it as you found it, unless it says, please close behind you.
With TJ manning the gate for us, we'll go through the gate and keep heading up the trail.
Man, these views. Wow. So while you're going down the trail, don't forget to look around and enjoy
the scenery. This is one of the most beautiful trails out here. So look around. I mean, you are
on the cliff, so pay attention to what you're doing, but these views behind me are just stunning
while we're moving. Let's keep going. So something to keep in the back of your mind is this trail
does cross bicycle traffic and even a cool jump for the bicycles at one of the obstacles. I was
hoping to see someone do a TJ. Let's tell me about. So as we continue to work our way up the mountain,
the trail does not get any easier at all. In fact, it just seems to get harder and harder,
more off camber, and I know that it gets a lot worse up ahead. So we made it to what people call this
Z-Churn. On the bottom, it looks hard, but people keep telling me we've already done the hardest
obstacles from here. It looks insane, but let's get up there and see what it looks like.
Yeah, it's a lot easier over here. It just looks horrible from the bottom.
Well, if the first heavy notes succeed, try, try, try, try again, especially when you're an elite
vehicle. Well, on the fourth attempt, Ryan jumped out of the Jeep, helped me out. I might have been
able to make it the first time if I would have cheated and used the cheat switch. Well, we struggled
a little bit. We made it. Now Ryan's giving it a shot. Let's watch. Right. I think Ryan was just
being polite, trying to make it look hard for a second. This obstacle's all you. It's straight
from there, basically. Straight. There you go. Keep going straight. Don't stop until you're
almost all the way up. All right, hard turn. One of the things I learned over the years off-roading
is most people just focus on one or the other, obstacles or view, and you miss out when you
focus on just one. In this case, this trail is known for the obstacle, but the scenery on this
trail is top-notch. Well, even though Cliffhanger Trail and the Cliffhanger Obstacle is what everyone
talks about, take the time to get up and enjoy the views out here because check this out. This
is just beautiful. Stunning view of the Colorado River and the valley below. I mean, this is
beautiful. So let's get out on the trail. Let's have a lot more fun and keep moving, but first
taking this view just for a minute for the next place. That's Poison Spider Crossway, by the way.
Now an obstacle. Well, Ryan jumped on the radio, let me know. We're on the edge of a cliff, which means
Cliffhanger Obstacle is not far ahead. I've been wheeling for 25 years at least, and I can tell
you right now, my blood started pumping just like it was my first time on the trail. Knowing what
obstacle's up next, I was scared, nervous, and a bit frightened because, let's be honest, I've seen the
videos. I'm looking off this giant cliff, and I feel very uncomfortable, and we're here. Ryan has been
on this trail multiple times in his life, but for me, this is my first time. Ryan knowing the obstacle,
he just started driving right down. Me, on the other hand, started freaking out and wanted to watch.
All right, we're gonna go down Cliffhanger right now. Heart is pumping because, as you can see
to my left, there's no room for mistake at all. There we go. Let's see how we do. Can you tell I was stressed?
Just watch. Well, so a recap after getting down Cliffhanger Obstacle. It's bad, okay? Probably close
to Tide, the hardest obstacle on the trail, but the advantage is there's really only one line. If you get
off that line, it could be very bad, so you don't have to think too much. You just basically stay
the right way down, but when you look at the left one, all you just see is sheer cliff, and that part
alone is nerve-wracking. I think going up will actually be easier than going down, but we're
gonna go and finish the trail really quick, then head back down, and then we're gonna be off to
fencing things and Hell's Revenge today, so let's get going. Knowing that the end of the trail is not
much further, we continued on. Well, sometimes the easy obstacles can be the hard obstacles.
That's climbing. You're climbing. Nope. Well, after multiple attempts, we got out, found a line, got him up.
It makes sense. Oh man, so I think we're getting close to the end, but it's not the end of the
trail. It's actually the middle of the trail, because we have to go out completely the same way.
That's what makes this trail unique. Well, this circle right here in the docks
makes me think we're there. Yay. We did it. We're halfway, baby. We're halfway. Halfway.
Oh my god, if you see what I look at right now. Was this view worth it? Comment below.
Let us know. Beautiful, right? So there is a sense of accomplishment getting to
what seems like should be the end of the trail, and then you realize you're only halfway,
and boy, we went up some big ledges on the edges of stuff. Like going this way, I think cliffhanger
obstacles going way less scary, but some of the stuff on the original climb has me nervous,
because now it's coming on my blind side, and yeah, let's get moving. Well, unlike that,
we're back to the major obstacle that has me scared, nervous. This is how I was a little hopeful
I could drive up in my first attempt. Well, let's just be straightforward. That's not how it worked
out. My first indicator I was going to have problems is the fact that my tires started pulling from the
ground. Not long after that, you feel the rocks in the belly of the jeep, frame rail, also the sliders.
Just too much contact for the silver jeep. Well, I hoped for a full second, but that was quickly
crushed right here. Now, I'm not going nowhere. I go back up. Every time I back up, my rear end
slides over, and you can't see the cliff out the passenger window. So, a two-inch lift and 38 is not
enough for this obstacle. For a cliffhanger head now, we're having a lot of problems. She's just too low
to get caught and hung. It's not the place to get hung, because it feels absolutely uncomfortable.
Live footage of the stacking. Um, I think I've got enough here. I would go extra on this bad boy.
Can you tell I was nervous? I did learn something new today, and that is the lockers turn off with
every key cycle on the JL. And on this obstacle, short wheelbase is God. Now that we're through,
time to get on the vehicle, regain ourselves before we keep going down the trail. Boy,
what an amazing trail this is. Please subscribe, like, comment below, share with your friends,
and get out and wheel.
