Hey guys, my name is Nicole. Welcome back to my channel. Today is episode two of my 2021 Christmas
DIY upcycling projects. I have an antique booth called Green Onion Vintage and most of my projects
today will be for sale in my booth, hopefully for a good profit. I share a lot of antique upcycling
videos on my channel, so if you're new here I would love for you to subscribe. Today is extra
exciting because I actually have a giveaway from Iron Orchid Designs. It is their brand new
Merry and Bright stamp set. There are so many options you can make with this one stamp set,
lots of little details, and I'm going to share with you a couple projects that I make today
using these stamps. To enter today's giveaway I need you guys to do a few different things,
four things actually, like today's video, make sure you subscribe to my channel,
leave a comment down below just saying hello, and then also I have a brand new creative community
over on Facebook. It's called the Green Onion Vintage Creative Community group page and it's
just a place for me to interact with you guys a little bit more easily and also to see what you
guys are working on, what you guys have used maybe the Dixie to build chalk paint on, or if you've
done any projects that I've done in my video. It's been really fun to see what you guys are working
on, but I'm ready to grow that page even bigger. So to enter today's drawing you also need to go
over to Facebook, follow the link below, and make sure you join that creative community page.
That's been really fun to be interacting with you guys over there also. I'm going to run this
giveaway through Black Friday of 2021, so this isn't going to be a giveaway that's up for very
long, so make sure that if you're watching today you comment as soon as possible. Let's jump right
in to my DIY project number one. First up I have this antique railing that I recently purchased
at a shop near Franklin, Tennessee. The store's name is Mercantile 1858 and I shared a shop with
me at that store, so if you haven't watched that video yet I'll try to link it down below so you
guys can go back and watch it. It was really beautifully decorated for Christmas. I haven't
found a lot of these railings in my area before. I love the spindles and the distressed white, so I
wanted to snatch it up when I was there. I paid $39 for it and once I got it home I had to decide
if I wanted to keep it or not. I would love to have it in my house but I did decide to turn it
into kind of a larger piece of wall decor for Christmas time. So I'm just wrapping this really
pretty garland around the spindles. It has some red berries and little pine cones. I really think
this is a pretty garland. Looks pretty realistic to me at least and once I had those kind of wrapped
through I added this skate. I had this last year in my booth, tried to sell it on its own, it didn't
sell. So I'm going to attach it to this and see if it'll sell as this larger piece of wall decor
and I just used like a heavy duty wire to attach that to the back and that's really all it took
to transform this piece of antique railing into this really beautiful statement piece for
Christmas time. I think it'd be so pretty over somebody's fireplace. That's kind of my vision
for it. I think it would be really really neat there so I'll let you look now at how it turned
out. Next up I'm going to transform this old piece of what I think would have been a mirror
in the past maybe attached to like a dresser or like a shaving mirror. I'm not exactly sure. You
guys let me know down in the comments because I'm sure you guys are aware of what this is
but it's just a wood backing right now. It doesn't have a mirror anymore so I'm going to make it a
for Christmas. I'm leaving kind of that creamy color alone for the frame. I'm going to go over
it with some gold later so it's not going to be exactly the same but for the background I'm using
the Dixie Belle chalk paint color. This is drop cloth so it's not the bright white. It is several
shades off. It's a nice warm white and I use it all the time in my crafts. If you need to order
some Dixie Belle paint I do sell it on my Etsy site so I'll link that down below. Now for the
bottom of the sign I'm going to line it with the transfer from Iron Orchid Designs. This is in
their woodland booklet from last year so I'm not sure you're going to be able to get your hands on
it anymore but that has lasted me through so many projects and so I just had these trees. They fit
perfectly and the way the transfers work is you just lay them down wherever you want them and
you're going to scrape them onto your surface and the transfer is going to stay on there. It's
hand painted on. The Iron Orchid Design ones are really beautiful. If you need to order Iron
Orchid Designs I have worked out with my shop owner, her name is Cindy, that you can message
her on Facebook and she can give you, you know, some of her inventory if you're looking for
something in particular and she's ready to ship to you guys so if you need any Iron Orchid Design
products you're welcome to check there. I will link the My Treasure House Facebook page down
below so you can go to her Facebook page and private message the shop and she will get back
to you. I'll pop up the information right here about how, about what you need to send her to
complete an online order with her and pay via your email. So now I am using the Iron Orchid Designs
stamp set. I do believe this is called the typewriter setting and I'm just putting my stamps
down. I'm going to make the sign say Peace on Earth and so I'm using this transfer sheet that
has the grid lines and I'm just laying out the stamps in the design that I want. So I'm using
all capitals for the word Peace and then all lowercase for On Earth and since I have to have
two E's I'm just leaving a space there for the E after the P. The grid lines help so much with
making sure everything's straight and I always make sure I flip my design over before I ink it
just to make sure I put all the letters on the right direction because there's been a few times
where I get a little confused but everything worked out this time nice and easy. So I'm just
inking this with a really affordable ink, permanent black ink from Amazon. I do have the Iron Orchid
Designs ink and I'm going to use that as soon as I run out of this one but this one has lasted me
for so long so I'll link this down below. I'm just applying a lot of pressure here. Very simple
process though. Such an easy way to make a really impactful sign and so the type setting is
actually supposed to be a little distressed like that so that's not me doing like a bad ink job. It
actually has some lower and raised parts so that the ink actually comes off looking distressed which
I really really like. I think it's really pretty and now I'm just pushing over every letter. I'm
adding my E in and look how nice and simple it turned out. I love the look of it. I am distressing
the edges now with some brown wax and then I'm going to go over it with the gold also to finish
it up. Next up I'm going to be making some gift tags and or ornaments using the Iron Orchid Designs
Merry and Bright stamp package that I showed you earlier. I have these tags just kind of in my house
from Michaels. I haven't quite known what to do with them so I'm going to be painting them
the color sandbar from Dixie Belle mixed with some baking soda to give the paint some texture.
I really want these to be kind of like an old world vibe and I thought that the sandbar color
which is like a really light tan would look really pretty with some black ink. So here is that stamp
collection. I'm just choosing a few of the framing first of all and these are going to be like the
borders on the gift tags so I'm just stamping them with the black permanent ink and then I'm
actually pressing the ornaments onto the stamp instead of pressing the stamp onto the ornament.
I just feel like I have a little bit more control that way and then for these little ones I am just
doing them individually making sure that I go through and push down each part of the stamp
so that it has a really nice clear image at the end. Once I have kind of my wording in the center
and then a pretty border I go through and distress the edges with some brown wax. This is just from
Walmart and then for an added touch and also you could stop here if you wanted to. I think they
look really pretty like that but I am going to be adding gold also to the edges and this is the
gold gilding wax from Dixie Bell. I'm brand new at using this. You saw me use it on that piece on
earth sign also. It's very very concentrated, really really pretty gold. I mean it almost looks
like gold flaking but I had to be really careful with how much I use because once it goes on it
really doesn't come off easily. Maybe it would have if I had clear coated or done a clear wax
first. I'm not really sure but I thought it came out really pretty and I used a lighter hand on
these and I did on the sign just because I already learned my lesson. But look how like nice and old
world those look. Really vintagey and I feel like you can use these as ornaments on your tree or
they'd be so pretty as gift tags especially with maybe some like brown wrapping paper and some
vintage ribbon and then use these as your tag and then whoever you gifted it to could use it as a
Christmas ornament in years to come. So I really I loved how these turned out. A little bit different
style for me. I don't normally do a lot of gold especially but I did really enjoy using it
especially for Christmas time and I thought these turned out really pretty. Let me know what you
thought of these down in the comments I'd love to hear. To finish these off I'm just cutting up a
garland that has some red berries and some dark green leaves and just hot gluing them on to each
ornament slash gift tag and I think just the added touch of the greenery made them look a little bit
more complete and just really unique and original. Now I'm using those same tags. I did paint these
ones a little bit brighter white. I'm using some of the iron orchid transfers from that same set
that I was using earlier just to put a little embellishment on these gift tags and then I'm
going to use the stamp set. It has a little tiny to and from in the stamp set. You probably didn't
notice because it's so small but I am using that to stamp on those words onto this gift tag
and just making a pair of these because I have some of the transfers left over to use up and
a lot more of these tags and these are going to be so sweet on somebody's Christmas gift
and like I said earlier they can keep these for years to come and put them on the Christmas tree
so I think that's really a cute idea. The options really are endless with this stamp set in
particular because there's so many little pieces so I think if you receive these or if you purchase
them you're going to be really happy. Moving right along I have this wooden sled that I have tried
to sell in my antique booth for two years in a row in this red color. It has not sold for me. I've
even staged it different ways with different greenery so I decided that instead of trying to
do it for another year in the red color I'm going to go ahead and completely transform its look. So
I'm going to start by painting it this drop cloth white again from Dixie Bell. Their paint is so
nice and thick that I mean look how well the white covers over this bright red. It's pretty amazing.
I do end up doing a second coat just because I want a nice full coverage before I move on to the
next step but it really does cover well. It's so easy to use. The cleanup's great. I know you guys
are going to be stressed about me getting paint on my table but trust me there's so much paint on my
table and it does come off. I clean it you know right away it comes off really easy so no sweat
there. I'm going ahead and painting this basically top to bottom even the underneath side and I'm
going to be using more of those woodland transfers from last year. Like I said this has lasted me
forever. I've gotten so many projects out of it so it's definitely worth the money. I think there
are a little under $30 but this is from last year. I don't know if you know if you can get these
anymore so sorry about that but I'm just going to be scraping these images right onto the sled.
I kind of cut it in half and put it at an angle. I really make these transfers work for my projects.
I cut them up. I do whatever I need to do to make them fit and you could see that part of the berry
pulled up on the tape. I just put it right back down and you couldn't even tell that it came up
at the first part. So these look like a hand-painted image once they are all the way adhered.
They're so fun to work with. I've really been enjoying kind of using them more often this year
especially in all my crafts. So like I said earlier you can order ironwork designs
from my treasure house. I'll have that information down there for you. I always like to lightly
distress the transfers and I'm going through this sled and sanding the edges as well to bring that
red back through. I just think when you sand the transfers it makes them look a little bit more
authentic and not so just placed on there and distressing the edges made this much more my style.
I really love the final result of this one. Hope you guys like this one too and then moving on to
my next project. I was completely unsure how this one was going to turn out. I have not seen anyone
I'm sorry make a garland before out of mini wreaths but that is what I'm going to attempt
today. So I have this antique strand of red wooden beads. I think they're so pretty
and I should mention I'm not selling this project. This is kind of an experiment for my own home.
So I am using the strand of beads to tie these mini wreaths to it and I was trying to show you
there I'm folding it for my placement. So I fold it in half and that's where I put my first wreath
because I'm using seven wreaths and then I folded those halves into halves and that's where I put
my other wreaths so that's how I kind of made them all equally spaced. It's kind of a trick for you
so I didn't have to actually measure I was just folding the beads in half to know where to put
the wreaths. Okay now I'm going to be flocking these wreaths. I'm using the Dixie Bell chalk
paint in the color buttercream which is a really pretty vintagey white. It has a lot of yellow
undertones. Here's kind of how it looks. I know it's hard to get a true sense of color on camera
so consider that the bowl is probably a bright white. So this is a few shades off but it's still
still very white and what I've done here is mixed almost 50 50 with baking soda and that's going to
make my paint nice and thick and gloopy which is exactly what you want for flocking. I feel like
the more gloopy it is on whatever it is you're flocking the more realistic it looks.
So all I'm doing is just kind of taking it and whenever I paint some cheap greenery like this
I just try to focus on the ends and I feel like that gives like a more authentic
flocked look. So not too difficult there's not really any way to mess this up. So I just go
through and get a coat and then normally once I paint just kind of a coat all over then I'll go
back through with extra paint and just put some gloopy paint on a few of the edges and that always
turns out really pretty. There's nothing better in my opinion than red green and white for
Christmas time. I think that's such a pretty color combo. So I think once this is all flocked
it's going to look really pretty all together. Next up I got this enamel pot at a yard sale for
one dollar which is maybe the cheapest pot I've ever purchased before. I like the black and white
color of it kind of looks like snow so I thought it'd be perfect for a Christmas project. I'm going
to cut out a little vinyl like Merry Christmas or something decal with my Cricut and just apply it
right on here. Pop a mid-sized tree in here maybe add some ribbon or some other decoration and then
this project will be all done. Here is another take on the tree in a pot idea. This is just a
basket I think it's a trash can actually. It has a plastic liner so I am going to first of all I
already stuffed in just a bunch of scrap fabric to help hold my tree up. If I had like spray foam
that might be a better idea or planter's foam. I mean this will work for now I'm not going to sell
it like this. This is actually just going to stay in my home. So a couple different options for this
would be to either drape like something like this kind of old scarf. So that's one option is that
white scarf on the bottom. That's kind of pretty. I also have this blanket scarf that I love the
pattern of but I don't find myself wearing it all that often. It's just so big. So rather than just
donate it or let it sit in a drawer forever I think I'm gonna probably end up using this one.
There you go something like that. Pretty cute. I do like that a whole lot.
All right guys I hope you enjoyed today's video. If I didn't explain anything enough for you guys
let me know down in the comments and I will try to get back to you and answer any questions.
I really hope you enjoyed today's video. I especially am in love with the garland and I
want to hang this over my piano. I'm not going to be selling this. Just look how the paint kind
of gooped up there like I wanted it to. That was such an inexpensive way to create like a faux snow
look. So I hope that uh gives you guys some inspiration to do some fake snow painting of
your own. As you can see I actually found a lot of baskets and little trees around my house that I
could put all together. Layered in some um like heavy duty like thick gum burlap ribbon and I
just love how everything looks. I'm using a lot of layers right now. I'm just really trying to make
all of the Christmas decorations feel nice and cozy. Look how the sun is hitting off that red
tree. It's pretty spectacular, huh? I love how the vinyl came out on that pot. I will definitely
be looking out for more of those and I'm just really happy with everything. So about half of
these things are going to go to my booth. The other half I'm probably going to be using in my
own home for Christmas or gifting to my friends and family. I appreciate you watching so much.
Thanks to everyone who subscribed so far as I'm at 15,000 subscribers now
