Hey everyone, this is Steve from Rockstar Eater coming to you with another rocking episode.
We are going to be continuing on with our Central American food tour and guess where I'm at again?
I am back here at the El Salvador street food market that's here in Los Angeles on Vermont
between 11th and 12th Street, the El Salvador Corridor. Here's one of the food spots that not
too many people really tell you about but I'm going to show it to you guys and I've had an
episode here before in the past but I wasn't able to really try everything so I'm back here and I
want to try some more stuff today. So today is going to be the El Salvador episode of the Central
American food tour and if you guys have missed the first episode then click on the icon above
so that you can be directed to that other El Salvador street food episode that I did here
in the same exact spot. So I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to show you what El Salvador street
food looks like especially here in LA, one of the biggest markets that you will find outdoors here
in Los Angeles. So if this is something that's new to you then stick all the way to the end of this
episode so that you can see the overview of this amazing El Salvador market stuff that's going on
here in LA and also if you haven't subscribed already please take the time right now to
subscribe. Do it right now. Hit that subscribe button right now since you have a few seconds
before the show starts you'll be getting these episodes on a weekly basis that you absolutely
don't want to miss. Last time when I was here I started all the way over there on the 12th street
which is south in this direction so what I'm going to do today is to start on 11th street and work my
way that way and there's going to be so much more to see because there's like a lot more stuff here
than when I was here last time. More stands and more people so it's really getting busy now.
So you're peeling the beans oh okay okay okay let me see this oh wow okay so these are new beans
right are they red beans red beans okay okay so if you guys are here on the street get it from her
they sell a lot of these beans here yeah like all this stuff here on 11th street wasn't here when I
was here last time. So you got like your honey and your beans and is this plantain okay plantain
all right plantains oh wow what is that is that like some sort of plant or something
that looks interesting. So this is called the riguaz it's made out of corn they make it here
as one of the the cool street foods here on Vermont and I think I'm going to go ahead and
get one of these actually sounds great. Okay I think I'm going to eat some cheese with it as well
oh this is good oh yeah can't miss out on the riguaz when you're here delicious excellent food
here in this El Salvador street market can't wait to see what else is down here.
This market is so crazy packed today there's a lot a lot of people it's probably like three
to four times more people than when I was here last time but shows you what it could look like
on a very busy weekend and today's Sunday afternoon so it's definitely going to be peak
peak time right now. I think what they're making here is like shaved ice this is a really popular
stand so many people are here ordering the shaved ice which you can get in many different flavors
like pineapple, coconut, vanilla, strawberry, tamarind. This is a ice shaved ice kind of a
dessert drink that's very popular not just in El Salvador but in a lot of Central American,
South American countries as well and this is the first time I'm going to be eating this I don't
think I've had it before so I think what I have to do is get some of this shaved ice try to go
all the way to the bottom and just dig out wow nice tamarind flavor
so you really got to dig all the way down there in order to get your
mango since all the way down there I think that's what I'm going to try
to do is get the mango all the way in the bottom
the drink with the straw you can kind of get the bottom out oh that's a really nice mango flavor
to it so remember that respado it's a really popular stand here at the El Salvador street
market so many people are lined up for this drink so if you're here too you don't know what else
to really get if you want are kind of wanting like that shaved ice then this is the spot you
got to go what's your name donald okay steve good to meet you okay all right here we go
wow that's a good taste
I can't how do you describe how it tastes like
it tastes kind of like like a pear that's really soft mushy that's how exactly how it tastes like
and apparently from what I heard there's a legend behind it that this thing actually helps
to cure cancer I'm not a doctor so don't take my word for it but if you want to give it a shot
if you have cancer you got nothing to lose right oh my look at that what what is this what kind of
what kind of fish is this is it wow man that's a big fish oh my goodness look how big of that
thing is okay okay so it's like almost like a jerky yeah like jerky yes you know one of the
great things about this street market is that there are actually some tables where you can
sit down and enjoy your food because depending on what kind of street food places you go to
sometimes they don't even have that so you're just stranded out eating your food standing up
or sitting somewhere on the sidewalk I know how ghetto is that huh you guys remember I had pupusas
last time here not at this stall but they make a lot of pupusas here which are extremely popular
here at the El Salvador market when you walk down this street whether you're going north or south
you're going to pretty much see like vendors everywhere selling a lot of similar stuff and
a lot of unique stuff as well and you just kind of have to take a look at what interests you
like when you look to your left and your right you're going to see vendors selling fruits and
nuts and dried fish all this produce and then of course you're going to sell see people selling
like fresh stuff like the pupusas and the yuca chicharron and just even raw stuff as well like
the clam cocktails which are really amazing here so you just kind of take a look and see what it is
that interests you around here that's really good there's a little bit of something for everybody so
I think what I'm going to do is actually go to one of these booths and to give you an overview of
the things that they sell at one of these sample booths okay so this is like a bread that's made
out of cheese yeah okay and then what about this one that just has like um honey in it inside of
okay so it's like bread with honey right and then this is like what like a
beef piece of beef oh okay is this safe to eat yes okay all right so you got some beef there
and then this is like dried shrimp or no it's already cooked already cooked oh
oh okay got it got it and then we got some cheese right here right
cheese okay and got some red beans right there I think they were selling this like you know
on the street as like the stocks as well this is like fruit what is this fruit called
okay so you have to eat the stuff that's around the seed inside
oh okay whoa okay wow okay oh wow okay awesome okay so what's this one called
okay so this also has a seed in the center right okay got it it's also fruit
uh what are these like plantain chips
okay got it so they're supposed to be crispy I think crunchy all right yeah so that's pretty
much everything here the last thing that I'm going to try today is this food called the
pastelito which is kind of like the salvadorian version of empanada it's deep fried so it's
crunchy and then inside has some chicken and then on the side it comes with this kind of a salad
which is sour it's with some of that cabbage some carrots as well as some jalapeno so I think it's
going to be a little spicy too okay let's see what it tastes like first without any of the
the salad or the cabbage okay that looks pretty nice
oh that's good
you know it's it's it's um you can still kind of taste like the crispiness of it even though it
has some sauce like smothered all over it but then the chicken on the inside is what's really good
oh I love it now I'm going to get some together with some of this gordito
together just like that now it's like you can taste the coldness of the salad
along with a little bit of that spiciness and the sourness gives a really good kick to it
so definitely you got to eat it together like that if you love empanadas you like everything
I just described right now then this is definitely a spot you got to hit up here at this marketplace
wow guys great time great time indeed anyways if you're in the LA area then be sure to catch
this spot because it's a food spot that doesn't really get as much attention as some of the other
places like Grand Central Market and you know like Farmer's Market and all that stuff if you
are really open to trying some really good Latin American food Central American food here in LA
then you can't miss out on the El Salvador street food corridor which is between 11th and 12th street
on Vermont anyways if you enjoy what I'm doing here on this show then give me a thumbs up and
also comment on the section below if you've tried this food before or maybe you want to recommend
any other great Salvadoran food that we should all try and then finally guys like I said please
