Sitting in bed, watching this afternoon with my box of tissues.
Oh, you're so sweet.
Very, very emotional. How are you feeling today?
I'm feeling really good. I'm not going to lie, I'm a little shaky,
just because it is me sharing a lot and talking to people about it. Really nervous.
So vulnerable, so raw. Why was it important for you to share so much and open up?
I think it was an accident. I think I wanted to create a documentary first about maybe my music
and my tour. And then when I kept having these hard moments in my life where I had to stop
shooting and I chose myself, I chose to take care of myself. In those moments, I realized I want to
share my vulnerability. And Alec and I went to Kenya together and traveled the world and it just
created a life of its own. And it ended up being this story about hopefully mental health and what
it can hopefully encourage people to seek help as well.
How is your health? How is your lupus? Are you in remission right now?
Yes, I am. Thank you for asking. I'm doing really, really well.
Because I have lupus too. So the scene where you're having your flare up and your joints
and your... I could just really relate to that.
It's definitely hard. And that moment was really vulnerable. It was actually scary too,
because I didn't know when I was going to stop feeling that pain. It's a scary feeling.
And to share your bipolar diagnosis, you didn't have to do that. What made you
share that at that particular time?
I didn't want to be afraid of it anymore. And I didn't want it to feel like it was a
big scary thing and I was going to be titled as that. I just wanted to tackle it on because I
feel like there should be conversation and that should be something normal. And I hope
that's what it becomes.
It's so obvious that your philanthropy, and I mean, we see you on your trip to Kenya,
you just light up. When you connect with people, that's what you love to do, isn't it?
So how much longer do you see yourself doing this for before you just
settle for philanthropy and helping people?
I can't answer that yet. But I do know that it will happen. But I'm continuing to make it
something I do. It doesn't mean I'm going to not still do what I'm doing. I'll always be helping.
I hope that's the whole reason why I'm here.
Have you learned to love yourself? Do you love yourself now?
You're beautiful.
I really do.
