Curious.
Alright, so I'm so excited about this box.
Sakurako.
It's by the same people...
It's by the same company that does Tokyo Treat and also
Numiko no Life, which I shared with you last fall.
This is also a food box, but it has a big spin on it that I find really lovely.
It's more, kind of a more adult tasting food.
It means it's less sugar, less sweet, and more
complex or subtle flavors.
Compared to Tokyo Treat, which is a lot of sugar and a lot of
no bright color.
It's not that these are low calorie or anything like that.
It's just like a different vibe and a different palette.
A different taste palette and also a different kind of visual palette as well.
Which you can see from the box. I love the box. It's so beautiful.
Okay.
I'm absolutely delighted by the theme of this month's box.
It comes with this pretty much a magazine. It's got articles, beautiful photography, and lots of information about each thing.
So, let's open it up.
I don't know if this happens every month, but this month it came with its own teacup.
So, let's open it up.
Inside is a ceramic cup.
Beautiful power pad.
Like the one on the back.
So, let's open it up.
And there's even a packet of tea to drink. It's a little, like, instant tea packet.
This is called Gold Plum Tea. It's a sweet and sour plum tea with beautiful gold leaves inside.
Enjoy watching the sparkling gold float, contrasting against the light pink tea, before taking a sip.
So, I'm going to mix some hot water and brew this up.
Here it is in the cup.
All the little bits, including gold leaf. It smells pretty tart.
Beautiful pink tea is made right here.
I have a couple plates. These are actually vintage sushi plates.
I thought they would be decent dessert plates.
Alright, we're just going to take a look at the tea.
I bet it's not too hot to touch, but it's really beautiful.
Alright, so, I think it's an interesting choice to not have a matcha tea beverage, instead a flavor that's supposed to compliment matcha.
Which is actually a number of desserts.
This tea cup is a traditional Yunomi cup, and it has a sakura pattern, pink and orange flowers.
This is a matcha yogurt roll cake.
Soft matcha, castella cake, surrounded by sweet azuki red bean cream filling.
We'll take a better look at it, at first.
I want to try these.
This is called sakura koito.
A lightly salty flavor of sakura, mixed with the sweetness of the cracker.
It's a green tea flavor of sakura mochi.
Of course, mochi is like a rice dough, which we have some matcha mochi.
This is the cherry blossom.
It's often used as a flavoring in Japan.
So, it smells so good. It smells a little sweet.
So, it's red inside and it's really, really good.
I really love that. It has a kind of a tanginess to it, and it is sweet, but not super sweet, but pretty sweet.
So, speaking of matcha mochi, this is basically a bar of matcha mochi.
You can feel how soft it is. I'll just squeeze it a little.
Made under the supervision of renowned green tea specialist, Eugene,
this popping and chewy matcha mochi gets sweeter the more you chew it.
Please enjoy it slowly for the full experience.
Oh my gosh, it's so good.
I was trying to get this part off, but that's part of the bar.
It's edible.
So much fun.
If you like matcha, which is like basically powderized green tea,
you'll love this if you like a nice matcha latte.
So good.
Oh my gosh.
I don't like the tea.
This is so good, 10 out of 10.
I kind of want to eat it all, but I don't really because it is very sweet and it is a nice, slow candy.
I love it.
And I want to move on to other sweets and things, so.
Next, I'm going to try this tsukurajuku candy.
It's a combination of soft mousse, meringue, and agar jelly.
It's a beautiful sugary cube with little tsukurajuku cubes inside.
It's a creamy, sugar-coated, soft, not as soft as a marshmallow.
That is delicious.
It's light and beautiful.
It almost reminds you of strawberry, but not quite.
But.
I'm going to open the matcha roll.
I'm so excited for this.
This is what it looks like outside of the packaging.
It's so beautiful.
There's a square of red bean, of jelly.
Or paste, yes.
White cream right there.
It's a matcha-flavored cake roll, so.
Okay, I'm going to take a bite.
And.
It's alright.
It's a little dry.
The matcha flavor is not very strong.
Um, unlike some of the other things I've tried, I would not actively purchase that.
Next up is a matcha azuki waffle, which looks like a matcha-flavored Japanese steak on the Belgian waffle, which I love.
Um, it does have red bean as well.
Let's take another look at the tea.
You can kind of see the gold flakes there now.
Reflecting the light.
It's very beautiful.
There's a little tray with two waffles.
It's nice.
It's rather soft.
I like that.
I like the consistency more than the cake I just ate.
It's less sweet, which I also kind of really like.
Um, it's very, very dense, which I love.
The matcha flavor's not very strong, but it is an intellectual experience for me.
These, I'm so happy to try.
They feel really soft just from handling the package.
They're soft milk and strawberry bonkotsu.
Fluffy flavors of milk and Japan-grown strawberries.
Great and elegant cake experience.
They are big.
I'm happy.
Brush this back.
It smells just like fresh strawberries and cream.
It's round and soft.
Very dense.
You can hear the moisture.
Oh my god.
Beautiful.
So good.
It's definitely the sweetest.
Well, besides the matcha bar you have tried so far, it's really well balanced.
And the strawberry flavoring isn't very intense, but that's okay.
I love that.
This is like 12 out of 10.
It's beautiful.
Next up, we're going to try this matcha pudding.
It's a little pudding cup.
It's very watery.
It's kind of like a jelly.
Made with sugoko-grown matcha tea leaves.
Known for being a tea lover's haven, this smooth and silky pudding balances earthy matcha
and creamy flavors for an unforgettable Japanese dessert experience.
Let me get a little spoon or something.
Okay, I just tried a few bites of that and the flavor is pretty good, but I'm not sure
about that.
I like the consistency.
I'm sure it's very, very well done.
Consistency is just not for me.
And it's okay.
Oh yeah, this is my least favorite, if not my least favorite.
So to the tea, the tea is like negative 20.
I don't like it.
But this is like maybe a 2 or 3.
I'm not really ranking any of them.
I just like arbitrarily bringing up numbers.
So it's just relaxation and fun, like ranking out.
This is the card that came with it.
These are described as matcha scented crackers.
They're rather big.
Not overly sweet.
Really beautiful.
So thin, they're like wafers.
I guess they do smell a bit like matcha, but I don't know.
Okay.
Those are beautiful though.
Nice big crunch from this.
So, it doesn't really taste like matcha.
It has a little sweetness.
But it's just, you know, mostly like a wafer.
Kind of got a toasted flavor.
Okay.
It would be really great with some tea or coffee for sure.
So this is called Matcha Senpai.
And this right here, the gold bar,
is called Matcha Getsuba.
It's a red beet jelly juice coated in matcha batter.
It smells like beets.
Okay.
It's pretty sweet, but it also kind of
really tastes and has the texture of beets.
I like.
It isn't a bad thing.
I just, I think in the West, we're just not used to sweet beets.
Like, kind of reminds me a lot of pinto beets in a way with sugar added.
Which seems weird, but it's actually pretty good.
The matcha taste is not very strong, it's just coating.
And I'm not picking up a lot of it.
These little round things are Matcha Mochi Manaka.
Okay.
They're crispy manaka wafers.
And inside is an elegant matcha
and azuki paste.
Okay.
That's very, very sugary.
And also has a very strong matcha flavor.
It's really sweet.
Too sweet for me, I know.
That's what the paste looks like
inside.
But it's not pinto.
This is matcha manaka.
Matcha is a tea known for its refreshing taste.
Made using sugar and syrup,
the matcha filling inside these crispy manaka wafers
is a beautiful balance between bitter and sweet.
My lovely wafer.
The design is on both sides.
Real earthy smell when I opened it.
I really like that.
The sweetness is not as intense as this one.
Nice balance.
Get away from me.
Ceramic.
I really like that.
The last thing are these.
These are plum yukan.
Refreshingly sour
with a sweet element.
It's a Japanese plum jelly.
And it's on a wafer as well.
I hope it's seeds, I don't know.
More.
I love that.
I really love that.
It's matcha manaka tea.
I don't know why I don't like the tea.
It's actually so good.
Okay, this one's so good.
This is like my favorite food box,
like subscription box I've ever tried.
I'm in love with manaka.
I did receive the box for free
but I kind of want to sign up now
and get one every month.
Oh my gosh.
It's so lovely.
And you know what else is lovely?
You are.
I am really happy that you're here
and that you spent some time
enjoying some snacks with me.
I hope that you take care of yourself
and I'll see you soon, okay?
Bye.
