Hello in this video I'm going to recommend
some places if you're planning to travel to Crete
Crete is the largest island in Greece stretching over 250 km in length and this can make
If you have only a few days
to visit it's not clear which sites are better than others
So with this video I'm going甦 to try to show you some of the places I was
in case it can serve as a recommendation
The first of the places I want to tell you about is Lake Kournas
This lake is located one and a half hours from Heraklion the capital of Crete and a short distance from
45 minutes from Hania which is one of the most important cities located to the west
This lake is a very large lake which is fresh water making it perfect for
Being able to dive and open
your eyes underwater like that without the discomforts that salt sometimes causes
Beyond that it's a very beautiful lake with turquoise waters and various scenic spots
Blue which are truly worth
spending at least a morning or even a day enjoying
There isn't much coastline or beach space to lie down but it is true
It has a few sunbeds and it's hard to imagine you won't have space to lie down
The lake is divided into two areas depending on the shade of blue
The bluest turquoise which is the clearest is an area with very little depth
This way you can practically walk around the
entire area without me covering you completely
And then the darker part which is a more profound area to which you can access
Also swimming although it is a bit further away but they also rent canoes
Boats and other types of watercraft are rented so you can enjoy everything
The area is even enjoyable to visit especially the turtles you can find at the back of the lake
The next point is Balos Beach a place located in the northwest of the island
On the contrary this area is much more popular than the lake I just mentioned so
I recommend that you go to all these sites I am
about to mention as soon as possible
We would arrive at these places around 9
in the morning and there was already quite a crowd
The Balos beach is a paradise in Greece it is an impressive place it is a narrow strip of land
The beach that separates the sea into two creates a kind of false lagoon one side whic
It gives you a part that is like a
more common sea with its waves and tides etc
And another part that is much less deep where the water becomes more stagnant the
The temperature is higher and it's perfect for taking a
walk taking some photos there and simply enjoying the area
It has plenty of space to lie
in the sun but there are loungers practically everywhere
These loungers are paid but it's worth it if you're going to spend the
whole day there as they come with an umbrella and are very convenient
This beach is not very remote it is a half hour to 40 minutes from Jania the city tha
As I have mentioned before but it is true that access is not at all easy
What the road is like if you use Google Maps it will take you the same way but
the access is quite complicated because the road is unsealed in the last part
About 8 km and if you drive it can take you a relaxed 30-40 minutes to pass
That entire area unless you're in an SUV
Many rental companies actually don't let you drive off-road
So in our case we didn't pay much attention and came this way but
really that's what everyone does because that place was full of cars
I have already told you that we arrived around 9 in the morning and despite the parking
It's not that small it was already full an hour or two before we arrived
When were leaving there was a line all the way
along the road which made the maneuvers difficult because the road is so narrow
The next point is southwest of the island a one-hour drive from Jania and it is certainly
One of the most well-known places in Crete is the Lafonisi beach
The beach of Lafonisi is very famous for its red sand but not all of the sand is red
A simple vista pero es verdad que si te
acercas a la orilla verás una gran parte que sí lo es
Just like at Valos Beach there is plenty of space to lay out a towel but most of
It is occupied by sunbeds for which you have to pay for the day
and includes a pair of sunbeds and an umbrella
This beach is definitely one of my favorites and is an ideal spot for snorkeling because
There is a lot of area that does not have corals but there is indeed a lot of rocky area around here
You can swim or go in and see a lot of wildlife little colorful fish and that sort of thing
In addition to having great visibility underwater and plenty of space to swim
where you can step away and even as it was in Valos areas where you can walk o
The water without fully submerging you makes it an incredible beach
The next one is surely one of my favorites
and also the most unexpected and that is Loutro
It is located in the central southern part of Crete and can only be reached by boat
Ferry which makes it an even more secluded and intimate place
You can also walk there are routes that take several hours through
the mountain but the most accessible way to get there is by boat
I loved this place so I'm telling you about it because it's a very intimate spot
It has only a few restaurants two or three shops selling handmade clothing and basically nothing else
Here you come to relax enjoy and have no worries
During the day ferries arrive every hour bringing quite a lot of people over
It is busy throughout the morning and gets quite crowded during the day even so
So they have nothing to do with the other beaches I mentioned before since this
The place doesn't become crowded at all but you can tell there are more people than usual
If you stay the night that's why I strongly recommend it because then you'll have the whole afternoon and evening
For yourselves alone this entire area and the whole morning of the next day
until the first boats arrive you will also enjoy all this place for yourselves
Solos If we head east on the island a beach I highly recommend is the beach
de Boulismas undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches in this entire area which stands ou
Once again for its turquoise waters that clear water and once again a place
I recommend that you go soon to be able to get a spot
Unlike the beaches on the west or south the water here is not as clear
It is not possible to see the bottom as it does in the southern ones so it is much cloudier bu
Still it's very warm water and the truth is if you're a bit tired or have already been
I've seen a lot of the western area and if you want
to see new spots in the eastern area this is a great place to recommend
Moving away a bit from the beach area I also want
to recommend a couple of cities that you shouldn't miss
One of them is Heracleion the capital of Crete It is very difficult
for you to miss this place because if you come here by plane
You will arrive at this point by ferry
The city of Heracleion is a fairly large city for a Greek island in general
Cities and towns should not be very dense and here although there is a large par
It already has old buildings and such and it has an area near the port with walled zones
It is very beautiful and well worth it with a lot of restaurant options
places to have breakfast
In addition just a 10-minute drive from Heracleion is Knossos one of
Europe's oldest cities and therefore one of the most important historically
I strongly recommend that you come here even if it's just half a morning to visit what is the
The Palace of Knossos since it is a very important historical site a place that to this day
It孽s very ruined because it was destroyed many years ago but it is worth it
I need to visit because there are parts that have
been rebuilt and to learn a bit about the history of this area
And finally we recommend Hania which is the most important city in the northwest
From the island and for me it's one of
the places I liked the most especially because of the atmosphere there
The city like Heracleion much of it has little to do with it but the par
del puerto is a walled area with its fishing port and beautiful promenades
Beautiful places filled with restaurants and shops
and it's really a great spot to spend the afternoon
I strongly recommend that you spend the morning visiting one of the beaches I mentioned
And then in the afternoon come here for a walk around the Hania area
go to the port walk around that whole area have dinner at a restaurant around there have a dr
ce cream and take a look at the shops the truth is that all of that with the atmosphere tha
It is generated in that city the truth is that it's a place where you feel very comfortable
So that's it these are my recommendations especially because they
are the places I visited during my trip to Crete
There are many other places worth visiting that I haven't mentioned but
since I haven't personally known them I can't speak as well about them
For all the sites I've mentioned you have the blogs where I've shown them with
Detail so if you have any other questions don't hesitate
to mention them in this video or in any of my social media
Thank you for watching the video and see you in the next one
