You can't get the toothpaste if you don't let me put this in your mouth.
Friends and neighbors, welcome back.
So we're in the month of March now, and this is generally the time when my New Year's resolutions
are just kind of daydreams of the past, really.
They just don't happen anymore.
So I think I'll take this time to just re-examine the New Year's resolutions that I made this
year and kind of take that into consideration for the month of March.
So the first thing I wanted to make sure I did is brush the dog's teeth more because
there is never a bad time to care about your dog's dental health.
It's just horrible if there's something in their mouth that's hurting them and they don't
want to eat.
That's just like the worst thing ever.
Think about it.
When you have a toothache, you just feel rotten.
I wanted to make sure I brushed the dog's teeth really often so that they would have
nice, pretty smiles and not stinky breath.
And also we would avoid, I don't know, a lot of the bad tooth things that happen to dogs
as they get older.
A little fact you guys didn't know about me and Mike is that we previously had a cat who
lived to probably over 15 years.
I don't really know how old he was.
He kind of just showed up in the driveway.
The first thing really that started to go bad with him as he got older were his teeth.
And the rest of him was just totally fine.
He was like jumping up on stuff and doing his crazy cat things.
But it's really the teeth that were the first thing to go.
So it's important to me to make sure that my dog's teeth are brushed.
That is a top priority.
I made this New Year's resolution to brush their teeth every day, which obviously has
not happened, which is why I'm revisiting this now and we're going to do it today.
So I'm going to show you guys how I brush my dog's teeth.
Okay, so I got their toothbrushes, they're so excited, which I got at the pet store.
Just like PetSmart or Petco or something.
And it's got like a fat side and a skinny side, as you can see.
And this toothpaste, which we got from the vet, that is flavored like chicken.
This is poultry flavor.
Girls, are you excited?
Who wants their teeth brushed?
Who wants to go first?
How about easy dogs first?
Huh?
Phoenix first.
Falcon, you have to wait, okay?
Everybody sit.
Come here.
Okay, Falcon.
Okay, so I just put this much toothpaste on them.
I'm going to wet them with water and then we're going to get started.
Okay, so for a larger dog like Phoenix, and she usually lets me do this, I like to get
behind her and then open her mouth like this.
Open.
Just lift up her lip and get in there.
Oh, good job.
She generally chews it while I'm going.
And then I do the other side.
Oh, good job.
You do great.
And then I tell her she's doing great.
You're doing great.
And I lift up her front teeth.
Show me your teeth.
Yay.
And then I usually try to brush the canines because they do a lot of work.
Just back and forth.
Not too hard.
Phoenix is seven years old, so her breath is actually kind of stinky.
I don't know if it's because she's old, but actually it's probably just because she likes
to eat crap.
She goes outside and eats dirt, frankly.
Also likes to lick up baby puke, so she just has these things that she likes to do.
See, Falcon's getting interested.
Yeah.
Did you enjoy the chicken flavored toothpaste?
Falcon, you have to wait patiently for your turn.
Good job.
There you go.
You're such a good girl.
One more last bit.
Just in the inside.
Open your mouth.
Good girl.
Good job.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Good job.
You are a good dog.
Now it's Falcon's turn.
Good job.
Yeah, you're doing great.
Other side, other side.
Ow.
Don't be upset.
All right, front, front.
Canines.
You can't get the toothpaste if you don't let me put this in your mouth.
All right, a little more.
A little more.
Got to do the bottom.
Falcon, I can't get in there.
There we go.
Ah.
Hey, hey, hey.
I'm sorry.
This is for your own good, and I think you actually like it.
There you go.
Sometimes I just let her bite on the toothbrush because, frankly, it's all I can really get.
Aye, aye, aye.
There you go.
You're so good.
You did great.
You want a little more?
There's a little bit left.
I couldn't get your bottom teeth.
Falcon, you're actually being a very good sport right now.
This is normally a struggle for Falcon where we all end up laying on the ground.
You guys did great.
I'm so proud of you.
Let me smell.
Mmm.
Let me smell you.
It doesn't smell like dead fish anymore.
