New York Travel Vlog 2018 _ My FIRST Time In The City!
It's been a while since I've been a proper tourist somewhere,
but that's exactly what I am doing and what I intend to do here in New York.
I just want to see everything.
Alright guys, I'm about to walk into Grand Central Station for the very first time
and I've just been going AHH this entire day.
It's incredible.
Being in New York is absolutely surreal.
It's one of those places I completely built up in my head
and it's actually living up to that crazy reputation
and it's just crazy.
And we're here!
America!
So we've just walked over to Times Square, which is so iconic
and looks exactly as I thought it would.
And I am currently getting tacos with Victoria.
83, 84.
84!
Ooh, and they're here!
Thank you so much.
Sorry, as I was saying, tacos.
My first tacos in the U.S.?
I don't think I've ever had tacos in the U.S. before.
That's mad.
Alright.
That's a mushroom taco.
With cactus salad and hot sauce.
Immense.
That is really good.
Oh my god, I'm back.
Look at all those yellow taxis!
1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
I'm so excited about everything in New York.
I've been acting like a bit of a nut job
because I just can't believe I'm here.
So I'm just, I don't know, going around and laughing at things
and pointing at everything and being like,
Victoria, Victoria, did you see that?
She's like, yes, I've seen it today.
Yeah, it's been really exciting.
So apparently here in New York,
people eat their pretzels with mustard,
which is the weirdest thing I've ever heard.
Mustard.
With a pretzel?
I tried it and no, I'm still not into it.
It's not bad.
It's hard to mess up a pretzel,
but I'm gonna stick to a normal pretzel.
But, in happier news,
this is Central Park behind me.
We're gonna go in and we gotta explore.
Alright, we've had an outfit change
because I'm trying to get loads of Instagram pictures.
I've been really slacking off this year
because I spent the first four months in Africa.
If you haven't seen my videos from there, check those out.
But yeah, now I'm just trying to get back on top of it.
So yeah, hence the vanity in this vlog.
But Central Park is incredible.
It's very American in that you can just go out on the lake
and you can like go on a gondola ride.
A little bit tacky, but really fun.
I would totally do it if I had more time and more energy.
It's really quite full-on.
Victoria, it's really full-on.
She's dragging me everywhere.
No, I'm kidding.
I'm so excited to be exploring.
So we've left Central Park
and now we're going to the top of the rock as promised.
We're there.
But getting here is a little bit tricky.
You need to walk for about 15 minutes, which is very easy.
But then you need to go to the 50th Street
and go from there because it, I don't know,
it's just a bit hard to find the entrance.
You'll figure it out.
I hate revolving doors.
We're gonna do this together.
I really don't like them.
And I've lost my friend, Victoria.
Hello from the top of the rock.
This is, of course, the Rockefeller Building in New York
and the views are as spectacular as Instagram suggests.
Honestly, this is the one place
that you should definitely come to
if you're into your photography.
If and when you visit, get your tickets online
so you can skip the queue and come in around 6 p.m.
because that is a wonderful time.
You will get both the daytime and the sunset
and the sunset tickets are a little more expensive
so you can save about $5.
And $5 can buy you five slices of pizza in New York.
So, which side?
So we just left the rock
and we haven't really eaten much of anything today
and we realized we're really hungry slash hangry,
some of us, and we found this place called Duke's
and they have sushi for really cheap,
for New York standards anyway.
So I got this avocado roll for $5.50
and what did you get?
I got this for like $6.
It's like a shrimp, spicy shrimp roll.
It's so good.
All right guys, we're finishing the night off
at a gin bar called Winslow
and I've already been inside
and I've realized that they have my favorite gin in the world
which is Brockman
and then one from Manchester
where I used to live called Thomas Dackett.
So, really excited and it's exactly $4.50.
It's been a long day
and we will keep the $1.
This is $1.50.
A $1 pizza slice tastes the same as $3 pizza slices.
Hashtag wisdom.
So Chelsea Market is incredible.
You have everything to, like,
your Moroccan soup type of shopping
where it's just beautiful imported things,
like, amazing.
Blowing my mind a little bit.
So we were just inside Chelsea Market
and we found this really cute place
called The Green Row
which specializes in vegetarian sushi.
So I'm delighted.
I got the taster menu
so I get to try four different kinds.
Thoughts?
We went on a little detour to Sephora
and because it's Victoria's birthday in like three days,
she got a present.
It was like a proper lip kit.
It was very nice.
Yeah, I got like this.
So apparently, Sephora gave her a gift.
And they didn't check her ID or anything.
So I'm not encouraging fraud,
but yeah.
This is all, starts to be West Village here.
All right, and now I'm choosing my home in West Village.
It's not looking so good.
I think rent prices start at about $3,000 per month
and that might be conservative.
So yeah, maybe not this time around.
Oh, yeah, please.
Thanks, Vic.
All right, guys.
Victoria has promised to take me to this incredible boat bar.
However, we're having one minor issue.
What is it?
Yeah, I don't know where we are.
I thought it was on the pier over,
but I can't see it there.
We can't find the boat.
There is a boat.
There is a boat with a bar on it.
We found it.
It is here.
It hasn't moved anywhere.
So I don't know if you guys have heard of this yet,
but it's the new thing in clean eating.
It's called the Instagram diet.
You basically order anything off the menu that you'd like,
you take pictures of it,
and then you just forget about it.
You don't actually eat it.
It works wonders.
You would not believe.
I've lost like 20 pounds just...
Yeah, really hungry though.
I don't know why.
Not that many carbs in it, I guess.
All right, we are getting off this boat.
It was lovely, but the cocktails are very strong
and it's so wavy today.
One cocktail here, it was $15, mind you,
but they are so strong.
I literally...
I should just go to bed right now.
I am so jet-lagged.
I think.
I don't know.
Am I?
I must be.
Wrong way.
Oh, this is going badly.
I see.
So we went to this really snazzy rooftop bar
and then we realized around 11 p.m.
that we're really hungry.
So that brings us here to Chinatown,
to this tiny, tiny place that opens till 4.30 in the morning.
And we've ordered a large soup,
which actually turns out to be like a sharing soup
for the entire family,
and tiny noodles,
which also turn out to be like a main course size.
Right now, we're sitting down at Citizens of Chelsea,
which is one of the newest, most Instagrammable cafes
in all of New York.
And I've already tried some of this food
and I can tell you it's not just photogenic.
It's also really delicious.
And I'm also really hungry, so we're done.
We are right at the World Trade Center here in New York
and we're just on our way to Brooklyn,
but we thought we'd make a little pit stop
because the architecture here is absolutely stunning.
It's very modern, very clean, very minimalist.
I know I was cracking jokes like 10 seconds ago,
but being here,
being right where the twins used to stand
is actually quite powerful and horrifying, frankly.
It's horrifying,
but I'm glad I got to visit very briefly,
but it has a special energy and...
Alright guys, we're walking up to Brooklyn Bridge
and I have to say I am extremely underwhelmed.
Look around me.
Just cars, cars, cars, cars, cars.
Then you get that famous gate,
but it's not what I thought it was going to look like.
Alright, I've officially changed my mind on the Brooklyn Bridge.
It is touristy AF, but it is lovely.
The pictures that we got are really quite incredible
considering the amount of people that were on it.
I think we did a really good job.
Vic, the verdict on the Berlin Bridge,
on the Brooklyn Bridge?
Yeah.
Yeah!
So Victoria and I are desperately searching
for that picture from Dumbo,
you know, the one with the bridge and the cobbled street
and the beautiful brown building
and we're having a lot of trouble,
but we finally found it on the map
and it's on Washington Street.
So if you're ever looking for it,
Washington Street is your place.
Fingers crossed we find it soon.
Very tired.
Alright guys, it's that time of the night.
We're going to go inside Brooklyn Brewery.
It's amazing.
It's super local.
I can't wait to try some of their tacos,
but I'm going to stop recording
because I think things are only going to get downhill from here.
So I'm going to check back in with you tomorrow.
Surprise!
So we decided to go straight out to lunch.
So it's Victoria's birthday
and we also met up with Onika.
Hi!
Who is amazing.
You should follow her YouTube channel,
which is...
Oh, Onika Traveler,
but I don't update often,
but I will.
But she will if you follow her.
Even the toilets are really cute.
Look around.
My favorite is this tap.
It's a squat!
And there's a vintage radio
that's playing a news broadcast from whenever.
You're never going to find a place like this anywhere else,
to be honest.
We need to do this very seriously.
It's my final day in New York,
which is super sad,
but luckily I have really good company today.
This is Adventurous Kate.
Can they find you on YouTube?
Barely.
No, just go to my site instead.
Adventurous Kate.
Today we've had a really lovely day.
We went on the Staten Island Ferry,
which was really cool
and it's completely free.
So...
Free activity in New York.
After that, we decided to be proper hipsters.
So we're walking around with our kombucha bottles.
You got to follow your gut.
So Kate and I are just walking around West Village right now
and it is Pride Month
and they're really embracing it.
And what was the street just up from here
that you talked about?
It's Christopher Street.
In this neighborhood, the West Village
is the Stonewall Inn,
which is where the gay rights movement began in America.
And now it's a national historic site,
historic landmark.
Incredible.
So we're right in the heart of all of it.
Everybody gay.
So I'm finishing my trip to New York
in a beautiful rooftop bar called Le Bon,
which means the pool.
And there is a pool
and we just witnessed something incredible.
Unexpected.
Just so many things.
It was an Australian man taking everything off
and jumping in and...
Everything.
And here you go.
And that marks the end of my trip to New York.
I've honestly had the best time
and finishing it with a naked man
and him all jumping into a pool
is pretty New York.
Pretty much as New York as it gets.
So I really hope you enjoyed this vlog
and I'll see you next week in another video.
Bye.
