So here we are in Dominica. That's Dominica not the Dominican Republic.
Completely different countries. I also had no idea that that was the case before I got here.
But Dominica is a very small Caribbean island like near Barbados.
And so I'm here for the Blue Element freediving competition. It's the first time this competition
has run and it's so far the island I'm pretty happy. It's a pretty pretty wicked little spot.
Like if you have a look over here there's the Caribbean ocean and then right on the
other side of this little stretch of land is the Atlantic. And there is just waterfalls
and fun treks and everything you could imagine for days on this island.
When we train we usually operate around three days on or two days on one day off cycle.
So today is a rest day and we are heading to the Emerald Pool which we've been told is pretty
incredible. This is Soufriere Bay. This is where we dive. Platform out there and it's always calm.
I was here two days after a hurricane passed through and I dove and it was completely fine.
And then down further along the bay is Scott's Head and we go snorkeling there a fair bit.
Absolutely stunning there and all these drop-offs and really cool like sponges and
corals around. It's epic. And then back the other way is the Bubble Beach where like
I don't know sulfur gas sort of like bubbles up out of the seafloor. It's just incredible.
Absolutely incredible.
The comp starts tomorrow. Pretty keen for the comp to be honest.
My goal on this comp is to just do anything over 100. I really don't want to get stuck around that
number. So I've announced 104 meters for my first day and I'm pretty confident because I did 105
in my training. Something that I've also been working on is to not be too serious and have a
lot of fun with my dives and my training especially before a dive. So I kind of like to like stuff
around and have fun before my dives just to like take the edge off and not get too bolted down in
the seriousness of it all. It's like trying to photograph last night's harvest.
I
ended up doing 104m with Vince and I did 90m in free immersion which was the new Aussie
record and I don't know, just for the first time ever I've actually finished the comp
feeling satisfied.
I've had a pretty massive year of training all round so I'm just keen to unwind and just
