A New Flowerbed

A New Flowerbed. As any keen gardener will tell you, you can never have enough flowerbeds for everything you’d like to grow, so when I thought of this fantastic idea to create a new flowerbed by stealing a corner of our lawn, I couldn’t wait to get started. Unfortunately I don’t have any new soil to improve the bed with, nor do I have any plants to put in, but at least the area is ready to go!

Hi everyone, Jeanette here from Enthusiastic Gardener.
Today I am so excited because I have had a delivery.
This has arrived and I am very excited.
Because, as you know, at the moment we order things and it can take forever to arrive.
I'm still waiting for my plants which I ordered over two weeks ago now.
I have no idea when they are coming.
So, I had a really good idea which I want to show you.
So, let me open this parcel.
It is flexible steel edging.
What am I going to do with that, you may well ask.
I will tell you.
Meters.
When it's put together, five meters of this flexible steel edging.
But I only actually need four meters.
It is supposedly bendy, although I think I'm going to have to get help with the bending.
It will bend.
And they slot together, somehow.
And I'm going to tell you I had a fantastic idea.
I had to convince Richard because he didn't think it was a fantastic idea.
So, what I normally have to do with my fantastic ideas is tell him once and he says no.
Then I leave it.
A couple of days later I just kind of mention it again.
And then he says no again.
And then maybe leave it another day, another couple of days.
Eventually he comes round to my fantastic ideas, most of the time.
And the reason he did not want me to do this is because he involves his precious lawn.
So, my suggestion was, how about if we put a boat here, duck this turf and then I could have this as a flower bed.
So, it did not go down very well at first.
But he's finally said yes.
What the edging strip is for.
So, we just laid out a hose pipe, first of all, to figure out the shape.
So it kind of matches this side and curves round in kind of the same direction.
So, we have, I think that this is the position of where the edge will be.
And I'm now sitting on what will be the flower bed.
It will be fabulous.
Richard is going to cut along the edge so that he can sink this right down.
It's going to be flat with the grass so that the lawnmower can just skim across every time and not hit this.
The boat was successful.
And as you can see around the edge here anyway, it's really, really dry.
It's just on sand.
So, at least it looks a bit nicer now as an edge.
It will be all planted with beautiful plants whenever they might arrive, which I had an email today.
They've already been about three weeks and no signers yet.
But the email said, we haven't forgotten you.
But anyway, I think you would agree, it's going to provide me with some more space for plants, which is all that a gardener could wish for.
The soil is terrible.
It's just obviously pure sand.
So it will need a lot of amending.
What I will do every time I plant something, I will dig a huge hole.
And I will stuff it full of good soil, fertilizer.
And over time, that will improve, I'm sure.
Anyway, so that's it.
My new bed.
It will make both sides of the path look nice, I think, leading up to the seating area.
I'm so pleased. I think that's going to look fabulous.
So that's it for today.
Thank you for joining me.
I'm sorry this video has not ended up with a beautiful, lush, green landscape.
But it's all in the preparation.
So as soon as plants do arrive, we can get going.
