Okay, today I'd like to show you how I make my colander, a bowl with a lot of holes
for serving fruit so that air can go through. And this is the bowl with a lot of holes
and how I make the holes more efficiently. And this is the finished one. Okay, I have a bowl
that's been dry for a couple days. And this is dry and ready to trim.
Stick my pot on the wheel head. Adding water to it. Tap center. Actually this piece of clay is a
little bit too dry so using a sponge to add a little bit of water to the surface to get it
soft a little bit. Okay, again my hacksaw. Actually, standard trimming tools. This is
even better than the hacksaw blade because it doesn't rust and it stays sharp a little
bit longer than the hacksaw blade. The tool is sharp. It's very easy to remove the clay.
So very quickly I trim my bowl with a very sharp trimming tool. I burnish the foot.
Put my stem on the foot. And you can see that there's a lot of the clay that is trimming off
my bowl. Pick it up from the wheel head. To pick it up, usually I spin my wheel
and then kind of twist. So basically I made a bowl, a wide bowl, and
leave the rim a bit thicker for the colander. So it's a lot of hole to punch on. And here
I have a drill, the power drill. So I'm going to use the power drill to use the power drill.
And also I have a drill bit. Different sizes. Okay, different sizes.
I find out this kind of a drill bit is good for doing the hole puncher.
I think this is for the wood, the wood drill. There's a little pointy in the middle so that
you can get in position right and then you drill. And I usually use the larger one and then just
spread the smaller holes around the larger hole. Okay, so here I make a hole. So the timing is
very important that you keep your pot not too dry and not too soft. So pretty good. I draw
the larger hole, all one circle. Okay, pretty quick that I draw a large hole around.
This is the inside. You can clean up this later, the inside. And then I will use the
medium size drill bit to drill holes around the larger one. So try to get the...
The largest one is a half inch, half inch drill bit and this one is 380. And of course I have a
1.25 inch. So I'm just finding the space in between and let's go. So this is a lot of
boring process so I will show you the finished one. Okay, so just keep on drilling. Okay,
so I have already used the drill bit, power drill and different size of drill bit to drill
a lot, lots of holes on my colander. Now I'm ready to just remove the clay that is still stick
and also the clay on the inside. So after I brush, the edge is still rough but I don't want to do
it now. Later when the clay is dry I can just go use my hand to kind of rub it so that on the
edge of the holes that will be more smoother. So by using a power drill bit I drill many,
many different holes, small sizes on one bowl. Just maybe like 10-15 minutes and this will be
done very quick because I was using the power drill bit. So again, if you want to try this
project make sure you get this kind of a drill bit. I believe this is for the wood. There's a
the middle part, there's a little sharp like a needle in the middle and this is where you can
punch a little hole and then the edges will go through the holes very easy.
Okay, good luck if you want to try it.
