Happy TUESDAY friends! Tuesdays I like to dedicate bringing you other videos besides our family vlogs, and today I wanted to share what my favorite tips are for keeping my home clean and organized! I hope you liked some of these ideas and that you'll be able to implement them into your own routines! Let me know in the comments section what YOU like to do to keep your home clean, and if you have any other requests of videos you'd like to see, be sure to mention those as well! :)
We are an ADVENTUROUS family of 6 who lost our son to SIDS in 2014. Our biggest regret was not having family videos of him when he was here and is why we started doing daily vlogs!
Thomas is a 2X North American Champion in his kick-boxing career and Ashley is a network-marketing professional and speaker in her company.
Together we have 5 year old Identical twins- Simon & Cohen. Our son Miloh was born 12/12/13 and passed away 5/20/14. We were blessed with our Rainbow baby Ezrah this year on 03/02/17 and we have loved sharing our every day journey with our followers and are looking forward to where this journey takes us!
Okay, this chair is a little too high.
No, I think that's a little too short.
Perfect.
Hey guys, in today's video,
I will be sharing my top 10 favorite tips slash habits
to keep your home nice and clean and organized.
I had a lot to choose from.
I have plenty more that I could share,
but I just wanted to share my top 10 favorite
different ways that I have found,
as long as I'm doing these things,
my house stays pretty clean for the most part.
The first one I wanna share is a simple one,
but a lot of people fail to do this,
and that is to make your beds in the morning.
You know when you make your bed,
your whole day kind of starts out better.
You're more likely to keep your room clean
when your bed is made.
And I also find when my bed is not made,
like the days I jump out of bed and I don't make my bed,
I find my entire house kind of reflects that.
So if I can get started with my day by making my bed
and also having my kids make their beds,
I just feel like we start out on the right foot,
and I stay much more organized throughout the day.
Something with my little boys' beds,
we got these Betty's Bed.
I'll have the link in the description box below
so you guys can check them out.
But we love these because they just zip right up,
and it's so easy for kids to make their beds.
My second tip is after all the kids are down for bed,
I take about 10 minutes and do a quick sweep
over the kitchen.
For whatever reason, the kitchen,
if it is dirty when I wake up, I feel so stressed.
But if it is clean and there's nothing out
and the dishes are put away
or the dishes are getting washed in the dishwasher,
and that's all I have to wake up to is to put dishes away,
it makes my whole morning start out right.
So I love walking into the kitchen
first thing in the morning and having a clean kitchen.
For about the past couple of years,
I have really developed this habit.
I used to not care what the heck the kitchen
looked like the night before,
but I found that that was one of the things
that was stressing me out in the morning.
So I'm like, okay, if that is stressing me out
in the morning, I can easily,
once the kids are put down for bed,
just hurry up and do a quick sweep through the kitchen,
clean it, put things away,
anything that's not in its right place.
And when I wake up, I know I'll wake up in a good mood.
The third tip is while the kids are eating breakfast
in the morning, I like to do one load of laundry.
So I'll run in there, just switch out the laundry.
I like to do at least one load every day.
I've told you this in previous videos,
but this just helps me stay up on my laundry
so it doesn't become this huge, crazy mess
and we're out of clothes.
So that is one tip.
It is so simple to just do one load a day.
So make that a goal.
I like to do it in the morning
when the kids are making breakfast
and that's when I usually do it.
The fourth one is really probably the best tip
I could give you because this has been a motto
I've lived by for the past couple of years.
I don't remember exactly where I've heard this.
So if you've heard this motto before
and you know where it's from,
let us know below in the comments.
My motto is if it takes less than a minute to do,
do it without delay.
I probably repeat this in my head 100 times a day.
When I'm walking past something in the kitchen,
like a little mess on the counter,
I always repeat that in my head.
Then I walk back and put whatever it is away
because I know it's so easy
if there's a pile of stuff on the counter
or a pile of clutter somewhere,
it's so much easier to just continue
to add to that clutter than if it's not there.
So if it will take less than a minute to do,
just hurry up and get it done
so you don't have to keep worrying about it.
My fifth tip is if you have kids,
include them in your cleaning routine.
Every night I set the timer for about 10 minutes.
My kids love this little chicken timer.
I think if you get a cute one,
it makes a difference, it makes it more fun,
and it seems like a game to them.
So I will set the timer for 10 minutes
and I have them just do as much as they possibly can.
And that's another thing, if you set a timer,
they are way more likely to do it fast
because it seems like a game to them.
They wanna see how much they can put away in that 10 minutes.
That's usually the only amount of time we need
is about 10 minutes to clean their room
because we've gotten rid of so much of their stuff.
Their room and their toy room don't really get that messy
because there's so much less stuff
with all the decluttering that we've done.
The sixth one I have is more of just a tip.
So we keep cleaning supplies in each bathroom.
I used to not do this,
but I found that one of our bathrooms was always cleaner.
It was like whatever bathroom
our little toilet cleaner was in
and our cleaning supplies was in,
that bathroom was always clean
because if I ever noticed something was dirty,
I would hurry up and clean it right then,
right when I noticed it was dirty
because the supplies were right there to clean it.
Now, once I realized that, I'm like okay,
we need to get supplies in each bathroom.
So anytime any of us notice something's dirty,
we clean it right then.
My seventh one is to declutter often.
If you caught my weekly cleaning routine,
then you saw on a weekly basis
I'm decluttering different areas of the home.
So for example, on Wednesdays I dedicate that to the kitchen
so I will go through the cupboards and the drawers.
And by doing that, I never get a cluttered or a junk drawer
because every week I'm making sure
only items that belong in those drawers
and in those cupboards are there.
So it really does help with ever preventing a junk drawer
or just a really cluttered area in the house.
The eighth one is to have a donation bin.
Almost every single day I come into contact
with an item we no longer use.
So by having a donation bin, I can easily just put it there.
Having a specific space for these items
has really prevented us from holding onto things
that we no longer use or need.
And once the bin is full,
we just take it to our local women's shelter or Goodwill.
The ninth one is to always put your things
in its proper place.
We used to come home and we'd just throw our shoes off.
I'd set my purse on the counter
and then it was like the first thing we did,
we'd walk in the house and just dump everything right there.
Now I know this example is a little bit extreme,
but I do feel like that's what it seems like.
I feel like it seems like we walk in
and just a tornado happens
because our house would so easily get dirty and cluttered,
but it's because right when we walk in,
we just drop everything right there.
So we've made it a habit to when we walk in the house,
things go in their proper place.
We make the kids go back to their room,
they put their backpacks in their closet,
we put our shoes where they go.
We usually only keep the shoes we're wearing right then,
right here at the front door.
Other than that, if they're not slip-on shoes,
we put them in our closet.
And the 10th one is if you are like me,
you are easily distracted by cleaning multiple rooms
at the same time.
I know that a problem for me personally
is I will start cleaning one area,
and then as I'm like taking things,
like I'm removing the clutter,
and I'm walking past another room
and I see that room's dirty,
so then I start working on that room,
and then I feel like nothing gets done
because I'm cleaning everything at one time.
So a tip for you is to start in one corner of the area
and work your way out.
So what I like to do is whatever room
I'm cleaning or decluttering,
I start in one specific corner of the room,
I clean that, and then I start working my way
to the other end of the room.
And then that way, if I walk past another room
and I see that it's dirty, I don't even think about it,
I wait till that room is 100% clean,
it's vacuumed, everything's picked up,
and then I move on to that room,
and then I do the same process there.
I'll start in one corner,
and I work my way to the other end of the room.
