Okay today I am going to show you how to mix plaster and then make your
your wedging table or for your recycling clay. It's going to be from the plaster powder and
then you mix with water and then pour into your mold. During the weekend I made one.
This is going to be my wedging table. The new wedging table is about one inch thick. I used
to show you wedging on this piece of drywall. This is drywall and half an inch thick.
You just cut it and then tape on the corners so the plaster doesn't fall into the clay. But
in the long run it's easy to get cracked so might as well to make a durable one. So I'm making
I'm pouring the plaster to make it a bit thicker and a little bit wider. This is about six inches
wide and this is 15 and a half and this is one inch thick. For the amount of plaster,
so 16 by 16 and one inch thick, 9 pound of plaster and then I pour it into my mold.
It's very easy. You just make a square and then pour into your mold. You could use a wooden
board to just glue it together or nail it together and then you pour it into the mold.
So this will be my new wedging table, portable one. It's not very heavy so you can move around
and you just place it on top of the table and you can wedge on top of it.
On here, this is not a big pattern. It's going to be my mold. I use clay to throw up a mold
so that I'm going to pour my plaster into here and fill it with the plaster. So after I finish
the plaster, it will have a little dip in the middle so that I could pour in my recycled clay
there for drying my clay so I can recycle it. So this is what I'm going to do. I draw a picture
here. So this will be the final, if you see the black one, will be the final of my plaster slab
for recycling clay. When you're making a mold, actually you should look at the red one. So
the red one is similar to this one. So the middle part is a little bit, it's a little dome here
and then the wall on the side. Okay, so I throw this on the wheel on the part of clay. You can
use a softer clay to throw. It's easier for you to spread out a large amount of clay. It's easier.
And then I let it dry for overnight already and now it's more or less the hard stage.
And then I will show you how to mix the plastic and then pour in here and then open up after I
finish. Okay, so I'm going to pour the plaster outside of my studio so that I don't mess up with
the clay. And this is the plaster. It's called Numster Pottery Plaster and I'm going to weigh
about 12 pounds of plaster in here. So that's 12 pounds of plaster and then I'm going to mix
with water and the water is about 70 percent according to manufacturer's instruction. 70
of the weight. So 70 is 8.4 pounds. So 8.4 is about eight pounds and six ounces of water.
All right, so that's the water that I needed and then I was gradually put in the plaster and then
you can see out there lots of air bubble release after you mix in the plaster with water.
So I think this is pretty good mixing. Ready to pour it into my mold.
All right, so I will let it sit. All right, so I'm ready to remove the plaster from
my clay mold. I have been waiting this for more than three four hours.
Okay, so that's the plaster removed from my clay mold.
I was trying to carefully remove the plaster so that I could recycle the clay.
Okay, so I will smooth out the corner and this one should be good for recycling my clay.
All right, so 12 pounds of plaster and about 17 inches wide in diameter. I'm going to use
the show foam to remove the corner so that it's not too sharp. I put it on the handwheel
and while the plaster is still wet it's easy to remove to carve it out.
All right, that's the demonstration of making a plaster slab for recycling clay.
So there's a little dip here and when you pour in the water the clay stays in the center.
And this was the clay that I carefully
removed the top and I can recycle the rest of the clay and
make another one too. Okay, I hope this demonstration helped and I'll see you next time.
