Greetings from Mostar and what we guess is probably the most visited place in Bosnia.
And you can really see why. Literally the whole day until it gets a bit cooler.
Let's go and explore this beautiful place.
So for those of you who don't know Mostar is famous for one main thing and that's this bridge.
Most in most Slavic languages means bridge so Mostar famous for its bridge.
So you get beautiful views from the bridge of the city
but we're heading to the place where you can get a good view of the bridge itself.
And there is the beautiful bridge. Okay, okay it's right there.
So this bridge was actually built in the Ottoman times but that particular one was
destroyed in the 90s during the wars here in what was Yugoslavia.
So what you see there is actually a replica.
The main event here in Mostar is watching those geese jump off the bridge.
We've seen like a couple of people walking around with hats and asking for donations and stuff.
I don't know if they're waiting to get a specific amount and then jump or...
They just jump.
Right we've been walking for at least half an hour now
so we need to go and get something to eat definitely.
We are buying into the local culture.
I ordered trout with potatoes and spinach because I'm boring and I adore fish.
But Matt ordered something he wanted to try for ages since we've been in the Balkans.
It's called Karadjordjeva or Karadjordjeva steak.
So this is made with veal by the way. Sour cream, cheese, prosciutto and more cheese.
Incredible.
What we've just eaten. Food was amazing.
Mine was a little bit heavy but really good.
Still I'm just walking a bit like that now to be honest.
But yeah it was good.
Anyway we're heading back now to the flat because we need to get on with quite a bit of work.
And tomorrow we've got an early start.
We left Mostar this morning and we're driving about 50 kilometers south
to Kravice waterfalls and there is a massive car park
and we think you need to pay to enter the area where the waterfalls are.
So let's go and check out how much it is and decide if we're gonna go in or not.
Hello from the car.
So the entrance was 10 euro each to go and see waterfalls
and our budget has taken a right beating in the last couple of weeks
and we just simply we can't afford as much as we would love to go and
obviously we'd love to show it to you we just can't afford to pay 10 euro each
to go in to see the waterfalls.
Again it's one of the things like we said before maybe in Turkey when we were
thinking about the car that when you're trying to travel full-time you need to make choices like
I'm sure it's well worth it if you're here on holiday.
It's supposed to be incredibly beautiful and it's definitely somewhere you should visit but
we just need to make these difficult choices at times don't we?
So what can you do?
I wanted to say is that like we joke and like laugh about the temperatures and stuff
but what I wanted to say is actually that is quite serious and there are lots of fires.
So I'm sure as you know that Russia's burning,
US is burning, Turkey's burning, everything is bloody burning now.
We've seen forest fires in Montenegro, in Croatia and we've just seen some today haven't we?
Yeah so our family's got an idea now that we're gonna burn in the tent.
I don't know why we mentioned anything to mom but yeah there you go mom we don't we're not
going to sleep on the tent just FYI all good.
The temperatures are quite repressive and they are over 40 degrees in the majority of places
and it is quite dangerous so what I wanted to say is that make sure that you're being safe,
make sure you're careful and temperatures like that are not really a joke and
dealing with a bit of heat is one kind of thing but this is just crazy.
So now we are off to our next place and where are we going Matthew?
So we're heading north we're actually going back past Mostar towards Sarajevo
and we're going to stop somewhere on the way it's supposed to be really beautiful
and yeah see what we can find hopefully we can find something interesting.
Wanted to share that with you for a while though one little trick that we do on the road you know
when you're driving okay in the car and someone is stuck very close to your butt
and they wouldn't overtake they're just you know very close so what you do it's called
slippery fishing okay you might explain what that means.
So a slippery fish is when the car like Julia says is right up your arse
you just pull over and let him overtake so like if you see a layby you pull into the layby
slow down let him go past and then go up behind him he's called a slippery fish because you
like slip past him you let him slip past it's a real thing it's a real thing okay
so if ever on the road you do this think of us slippery fishing with us.
Konjic is a very beautiful town it's so pretty and cozy it's like a mini version of Mostar
with the old ottoman bridge as well so if you're driving between Mostar and Sarajevo
make sure to check out this place they're for worth a visit.
So we're going to hit you with a fact straight away somewhere along this riverbank
was where Franz Ferdinand was shot which was the spark that finally kicked off world war one
during that time Sarajevo was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire
also another fact this is our second time here we came here for one night on our last
trip to the Balkans. So we're heading straight into the old town from the ottoman period. Walking
around the old town is literally like going back in time you can smell the coffee brewing
all the souvenir shops everywhere people trying to pull you in it's like being back in Istanbul.
So the time is just after five o'clock and we don't really want to leave Sarajevo that early
but we've got a two-hour drive to get to the place we're staying tonight so we need to.
So just up there is the site of the winter olympics that were in Sarajevo
when it was still Yugoslavia now a lot of the olympic site has been destroyed
during the war and it's quite a big site for tourists to go to now and to look around
we'd have probably gone there if we had a bit more time but unfortunately we ran out.
So i'm not quite sure how we bagged this place this cost 18 euros a night and we thought we
were getting quite a small apartment the photos don't do it justice at all you know when you
see a place that looks bigger in real life than in the photos well this is the case times 10.
And if you see the other way around you're like oh my god it's like one and a half times the size
this is mental we'll show you around. We can seriously get lost here.
Bedroom number one.
It's like a massive sitting area there is another bedroom with a balcony there
and the garden is so pretty and another bedroom there and there is a giant living room.
There are how many one two three four five six and eight sleeping spaces and sofa
that's a couple on the sofa definitely.
Have a look at the view as well from the balcony.
I think we're gonna go for a run in here in the morning.
And we're going to enjoy it with a cup of tea and watch the sunset.
After that we're gonna get on with some work.
So this seems like a good place to finish this video here.
So thanks for watching and see you in the next one.
Oh I can't do that anymore.
Yeah we devoured the shop before we could film but you've seen it before.
If you haven't watch our broken food video.
So we're just getting into Sarajevo and we've been stuck in traffic.
I think there is like an accident happened before
and we've seen a man standing on the side of the road
and I think we think he's standing like an air freshener with a Bosnian flag
and he sort of stands there and does this half-heartedly just showing everyone
and then every sort of couple of seconds he goes like that.
He's not really trying though he's just
it's times like that again you wish you had the camera on your head and you could show.
