Hey guys, welcome back to another video.
I believe that this video will go live on the 4th of July.
So if you are here in America, happy 4th of July.
Today I wanted to show you guys
how I DIYed this tree right here.
So in my last video,
when I did the whole dining room makeover,
I had so many people asking,
can you show us a step-by-step on how you made your tree?
So that's what I'm going to do today
is walk you guys through the process
of making your own tree.
It is the easiest thing ever.
All you're going to need tool-wise
is you might need a drill,
a hot glue gun.
You might need a hot glue gun, you might not.
And some kind of pliers or wire snips.
If you don't need to use hot glue for your branches
and they are sticking in the holes good enough,
I have a really fun idea
that you could use these trees to swap out
for different seasons.
So for example, in the fall time,
my plan is to remove the leaves
and then stick some orange or red-toned branches
in the little branch stump.
I don't even know what to call that.
But that way I have a really beautiful fall tree
in my dining room.
And then in the springtime,
I could also pluck these branches out
and put some different lavender
or white blossoms inside of the tree.
So besides saving money by doing this tree yourself,
it's also fun to think of all of the different things
you could do with this tree
by swapping different branches out for different seasons.
Anyway, sorry for the long intro.
Let's jump into the video.
So to get started,
you're going to want to get a tree from a thrift store.
I always find these at my thrift store.
We always have like five or 10 of them at mine.
And they're always ranging between 10 and $20.
So I found this one for 15.
And I picked this one
because I really liked the basket that it was in.
I felt like this was a basket that I would want to keep
so I wouldn't have to replace it,
which would just save a little bit more money.
So the first thing you're going to want to do
once you have your tree selected
is go to Hobby Lobby or any other store that sells florals.
And I wanted to go when they had a 50% off sale.
So keep an eye out on their sales,
but they have so many different stems to choose from.
I almost grabbed these olive branches
because I love the look of olive trees,
but I really liked the way
that the tree in my bedroom looked out here
in my dining room.
And so I just decided to use the same stems
that I used for that tree.
So I'm not sure exactly what kind of stems these are,
but I love these.
They're 9.99 full price, but they were 50% off.
So I got them for $5.
I grabbed seven stems.
So the total for this was I think like $34 around there.
I know the total came to less than 50.
It was like 49.96 if I remember right.
This entire tree makeover was less than $50.
And I feel like for that kind of a large statement piece,
that's a really good deal.
So the first thing you're going to want to do
is just pluck out all of the old stems,
but I did need to use some snips
to just kind of curl them out of their hole
because they were really tight in there.
The next thing we did is we snipped off
a lot of the plastic around the metal wires
and then we trimmed them down to size.
So I actually only ended up using
I think three or four full stems
and the rest of the branches, I did this too.
So you can see here, I have four branches from one,
which makes it look like there's way more branches
than just seven of them on this tree.
So I did use a few full size branches,
but for the most part, I snipped them into a few pieces
and then placed them all over the tree.
So you can see here where Thomas is drilling another hole
because I felt like it needed some more greenery right here.
And basically what I'm doing is
I just pull the branches apart
until I like the way that this looks.
So here is the final look of this tree
and I love how it turned out.
I'm really happy that I decided
to go with these same branches.
I just love this look in this room.
And because it's the 4th of July,
I thought it would be fun to show you guys a peek
of what my dining room looks like today.
We have some family coming over for a barbecue
after we go to the parade.
So I just wanted to dress up this room
a little bit for that.
