Spring has Sprung and the animals are loving it! The pond is melting and the snow is almost gone. We decided that this was a good weekend to open up to the public after almost a year. I tried out the new Insta Go camera, something that Tara can use with the upcoming kidding season with our mama goats just in case I am at work. This past week we lost "Hi" our Muscovy drake likely due to age.

Welcome to the 10-acre woods. My name's Mark and it is a beautiful first day of spring.
Not the first full day but first partial day and we'll take that. You can see there's not
too much snow left around me. It was 17 degrees celsius today and it is just coming into the
evening and it's still beautiful. I don't have a jacket on. So we've let our animals outside
to play in the sun and in the water of the pond that's actually melting. So this forward pen here
is our pen where all of our specials are. We've got Sheldon. Sheldon? Sheldon? Are you all played
out today? Onyx who was kind of napping quite a bit earlier. So she's out enjoying the sun.
Hi Sheldon. Hi, did you have fun today? You did. Yes, we had lots of visitors come today.
So today was our first day of our open farm of course with social distancing, right buddy? Yes.
And Moira, you're looking a little rough there girl. They will be getting sheared probably in
beginning of mid-June. We still have some cool nights even into May. So they'll get
their hair cut soon. Middy or Mr. Midnight, hi bud, is in this pen. So this is kind of our nursery pen.
This just over top of here. No Sheldon, no you're not, you're not going in there.
What was that on him? Okay, so yes we have Mr. Midnight or Middy. Hi, yeah, oh just enjoying
it outside and such plush fur. Hey bud? Yeah, so he was inside all winter. And then out here we
have our other little ones. We've got Scooby and we've got Henry and we have Pluto over there.
And I don't believe this Muscovy female has a name. She was injured so we had separated her
and put her in with these guys inside and figured it's best that if she's out here
until she's fully healed enough to go out with the other ones. So this is a fully enclosed
enclosure and we've got an old satellite dish that we used on top. Down on the bottom, so this is
chicken wire, not necessarily to keep out predators but to keep these guys in. And when we have little
ones we've got this smaller gauge stuff that's on the outside because we found that even with
the chicken wire if you get some small little animals, some chicks, they can actually get out.
We've got some other various cages around just in case we have some other animals. This one here
was Danny the squirrel's place so he actually came in with this. There's nobody in here now
but we do have, you know, all the waterers and it looks like we need to do some repairs to it.
Not sure how that happened. It did blow over at one point. So there's a hammock in here and a
little tree and all kinds of little things in there. Are you coming? Are you following me around,
Mitty? There was something funny. As soon as we let him out in here, of course our dogs,
Toby. What are you doing, Toby? Are you on the rocks? Are you allowed on the rocks? No you're not.
So of course the dog run is shared with this pen here by this. It's not shared but it's,
this is a shared fence line. And of course the dogs came right up here and Mitty was over here
and he didn't seem too phased. But the dogs, they wanted to, well they are terriers, West Highland
terriers and they do like their rabbits. Like chasing rabbits. Not this one, right Mitty?
Right? Yes, you just come right over. Okay, coming into the main back pen.
We've got some buying going on. Not sure what's happening. There's Turbo
and I believe that one over there is, yes, it's Tinker or Tinkerbell.
Hi, what's going on? Tiana's over in the bush. Oh, I wonder if they think she has some food.
Probably. I see Bronwyn. She's over there watching and the alpacas did take a look over.
Right, Chansey? Whenever there's something that there might be food, Chansey's ears perk up.
But of course I don't have any food so she's like, yeah, you can't fool me.
The pigs, Petey and Piper. I'm not sure where Petey is but here is Piper. She got her belly
rubs today and she's out rooting. And this is great exercise for these guys. They're not cooped
up in a small pen. They're out and they're foraging. So they do this all summer long.
They'll go out to the back area there. We've got an area where the hay from inside the building
last year was put there. There's Tiana. What are you doing? Someone today said there was a
mass pile of white feathers in the back and we're not missing anybody. So I was going to go out and
try and find it. They said 200 yards in the back. Oh, yeah. And I just walked the entire property
line and there's a bunch of them in the middle section and I can't find it.
And look at Fernando. Fernando's pouting.
But is it buddy? I think he wants some food or something.
Did everybody leave? This is what it sounds like when you have a pouting turkey.
I believe you.
So we did actually last spring have, we lost a goose. We also lost a goose during the winter
time as well. So those feathers could be partially from that. I'm not sure. I remember the lady
talking about it today as well, but there were some feathers back there. So Tiana is going to
go back and have a look. We're not missing any geese. We're not missing any ducks, any white
birds. So who knows what it could be. Last year when we did have a fox come in, we found that at
the back corner of the property where the fence goes, there's three electric fence lines and the
bottom one, for whatever reason was, I guess it came off and never got put back on and got cut
off. So there was a gap where a fox could easily go underneath the electric fence. So last year
when we found that, we shored that up and the fox magically disappeared. Not sure if he actually
just carried on the journey or if he got trapped by somebody in the area or what, but he never
came back. So all's good for now anyway. So here is the pond, the upper pond area.
We do have a larger pump that goes in. You can see the, in this here that comes out, but the ice
wasn't quite open up enough to get the bigger pump in. So I ended up just putting in a sump pump
and you can just kind of see the float valve there now. So it's moving down with the
added movement of the water. It's melting that ice and this is all breaking up here as well.
And this was one large platform of ice which it's melted substantially as well. Of course the ducks
are loving it out here. They've been playing in the water pretty much all day. And then we've got
our little river here that overflows. So as the water is running down here, since it was sunny
and warm today, it was warming up and then dumping back in, just helping the process.
You can hear this going here humming. This is actually a compressor in the top head of that
windmill. And then there's a pipe, a plastic pipe, that comes down and it's actually disconnected
right now because of the winter. So we just hooked that back up to here. The reason why it's
disconnected is because it freezes. So there can be water that gets in the line and then it freezes
and then you can actually blow the seal in the head of that. So we just decided to disconnect it.
You can buy a connector or an attachment. It looks like a propane tank that hangs onto the side.
It's filled up with isopropyl alcohol and then it runs those fumes down the line and the bubbler
is out further there in the middle of the pond. But the issue with that is is we don't want our
larger animals or any animals to start to wander out there and go, oh look there's some water we
can drink out of, and fall in. So we feel it's best just to let it freeze completely over. They've
got their watering systems out here, their water trough with a heater in it, so we don't necessarily
need the pond running and open. So our goats, our female goats, so these girls will be going into
the building at some point in the next week or two. So they're out here enjoying. Yeah, Fernando,
I'm busy at the moment. No interruptions. We'll get to you. Do you want us to get to you?
You're a funny bird. We had a lot of people that were very interested in Fernando and of course,
like always, fall in love with him. He is funny looking, yes, but he tends to grow on you,
don't you bud? Blackie, Holly, and that is either Petunia or Billie Jean.
That, oh those horns, that's Billie Jean. Oh, they're starting to get their mother-daughter.
And of course, this is Petunia. And I always look at at her horns. Of course, Petunia is the mom
to Billie Jean and the horns are that much larger. Are you just chewing your cud?
So they'll go and they'll eat their hay and chew it down. They'll go into their rumen stomach and
then they'll burp it up and re-chew it to make it smaller and digest it. So
that's the relaxing chewing the cud and Coco. Oh, she's doing it too.
Burp it up, girl. We've got all of our Muscovies out here hanging out, enjoying things.
Oh, and look, even Turbo's chewing his cud too, aren't you bud?
Yeah, everybody's enjoying the dirty water. Piper, where's Petey? Is he in bed?
Hey, is he in bed? Yeah.
Let's see. Oh, he is too. Oh, Petey, are you sleeping? Such a nice day out.
So during the winter months when they sleep in their bed, they really dig in and you often quite
can't see them or just the top of them. So you can tell that it's much warmer out because you
can see most of Petey the pig while he sleeps. So in this area here, we haven't taken down
the poly yet. Tara wanted to and I said, let's hold off. And it was very windy today. So she
was happy that she didn't. Charlotte, Charlotte's hanging out in here. Are you chewing your cud as
well? It's just so much going on today. It was so much going on for a lot of us. Okay. So this is
kind of the addition here. We've kind of designed the corrals in here in such a way that we can put
up two by sixes. So we put two by sixes up here, three of them to close off that pen. And this is
for Sheldon, Moira and Onyx. Oh, it looks like she's going to bed.
I'm not bothering you. Oh, you're so grumpy when you wake up, aren't you?
Okay. Oh, sassy. Yes. You're grumpy towards her as well.
So I was just walking out of the, uh, the building there and this little boy decides that he's going
to jump at me. Um, so he's, uh, he's trying to, uh, take the position above me, which that's not
going to happen, buddy. Uh, but it can happen to a lot of people, uh, people that aren't, uh,
aren't aware of animals and how they act. A big one is geese. Uh, there's, uh, a ton of videos
out there on YouTube about geese attacking people. And of course the people just run away. Um,
if a goose runs at you, it seems weird, but if you run towards it, they will likely stop and back
off. Uh, but, uh, yeah, no, I wasn't going to let him get away with that. So I figured I'd pick him
up. I'd hold him. And then he would be like, okay, well, I can't do anything right now. Uh,
some of the other roosters came. Um, one of them almost seemed to come to my aid and, um, and went
and hit him with his wing. And then this guy just kind of walked away. Uh, but then, um, he came back
at me. Didn't you, bud? Okay. So we're going to put you down. Okay. Okay. Are we good? Are we good?
All good? Looks like it. Yep. Live to fight another day, right?
Fernando, why weren't you helping me? You're supposed to be security.
Okay. Coming back into the other areas here. Um, so we've got all of our, uh, ow! Did you do it
again? Oh, Fernando, go get him. Okay. Thanks, Fernando. Yeah. You get him. Oh, okay.
Fernando's a little scared of him too. Yeah. You saved me, buddy. Thank you.
All right. Everything's, everything's right in the world now.
Okay. Um, yeah, so we've got our guinea in here and, um, the, uh, the chickens, uh, some of the
chickens did, um, did go, they were, they did come in last year in the fall, uh, and then they were
picked up to, uh, head back to the farm that, uh, can't take them during the winter months because
they're not set up for that. Muscovies, which should be in this side of the fence, not that
side of the fence, but as we, uh, yeah, like Phil, take it from Phil. He knows what's going on.
Uh, we will be redesigning this whole area. So, oh, look, the bunnies are out.
Yeah. So we can't put Middy in here because these are girls. There's one
fix boy and the other two are girls. Uh, so Middy is no allowed in there.
Okay. So then we have up here. So this is not an accessible area, uh, during our open farm
just because the boys are stinky. They're not rough. They're not too bad. Um, but they're
just stinky and, and we don't want, uh, them rubbing themselves up against our visitors,
right? Yes. We have to have some limitations. Don't we, Carl?
Yeah. Yeah. There you go. Uh, you're a goof. The boys are goofs for sure. Uh, Meadow,
she went out a little bit. Deanna took her out for a little walk, um, put the lead on her and,
uh, walked her out in the yard and about five minutes later, Levi realized that Meadow was
out and he wasn't out. Uh, so of course he ran over to, uh, the closest point, uh, which would
have been, uh, on the other side of this hill, uh, because Deanna had Meadow out over there,
uh, and he ran over and he was just kind of waiting. You know, what about me? What about me?
Right, bud? What about you? Uh, so these guys are getting along well together
or they tolerate each other, I guess I should say. And Daisy. Daisy was dirty earlier because
she was rolling around in the dirt. Weren't you, girl? Yeah. We'll have to go and put her, uh,
her little ponytail back up again. Usually we leave it down like this during fly season,
but of course fly season isn't until later in the year. What is going on here? Okay,
so this is what male goats do. Um, it's usually the intact ones, which are more crazy. I guess
they're all hopped up on hormones, uh, and they generally need to, uh, to beat things up.
All right, Carl, you can tell from your horns that you like to beat things up, don't you?
Uh, now I'm sure in a few years, um, Billy's beautiful long horns, uh, will break at some
point, just like Carl. Oh, buddy. Hey, yes. So last week I had mentioned that I had another camera
on order. Uh, this is not a sponsored video. I, uh, I bought this little guy here, uh, which is,
uh, by Insta360. Uh, so it's their new action go camera. Uh, so the idea behind this was, um,
Tara is not up on grabbing the camera and going out and, um, and recording things. Uh, so this
is kind of a quick, uh, grab it and go camera. Uh, she delivered a lamb, uh, what was that,
about a week and a half ago. Uh, and of course I didn't really have any video footage to share
on that. And that would have been nice to have. Uh, we have kid goats that are going to be born,
well, within the next few weeks. Anyway, the mamas will likely be going in to the building.
Um, probably, probably next weekend, maybe we'll do that. Uh, and then they should be,
uh, beginning of April. Uh, so we want to have a camera that is kind of a grab and go.
Uh, now this one is the Insta360, uh, go to, this is the second generation. Uh, now it has a kind of
a little remote control here on the bottom. Um, and then a little display and the cameras in the
top here. Um, so the idea behind this is the camera just kind of pops out magnetically.
This is actually a charge case. Uh, and then this is your camera here. So I do have,
uh, this that came with it. This is like a magnetic pendant. Uh, so it will, uh, just
attach to that. So you put it in your shirt and then you just throw it on, you attach it like
that. Uh, and then you're off, uh, off to the races, they say. It is magnetic. You can hear that it,
uh, stuck, stuck to the side of this computer that I've got sitting here. Uh, so you can actually
stick it to a screw on the wall or wherever. Uh, and then it just pops in and charges in that case.
So I did take some footage of this without further ado. Um, I'll show you the, uh, the clip
that I took yesterday. Uh, when we had our open farm, uh, I put it on and, and did a couple of
clips there. Uh, and, uh, you let me know what you think of it. Oh, one more thing. It was windy
when I went out with this bag. So there is a little bit of wind noise. Yeah.
Oh, Scooby. I got a good hold. Hi Marley. Looks like the geese are checking out my pump
pond's going. What is it, Alan? Oh, that's a pecan duck and a goose.
That's our, our pecan duck that thinks he's a goose.
Oh, silly boy. All right. So this seems to be melting down not far enough to put the big pump
in yet, but it's something anyway. Uh, this is where all the sheep are.
We've got Turbo and Bronwyn and George and Daisy and Tulip.
All right. What do you think, Turbo? What do you think, buddy? Is it nice out? Oh, here comes Marley.
Yeah. Silly alpaca. Did you go for a good run? And you left your mother. Oh, Onyx.
What are you doing? Lying in the sun. Oh, Moira. Oh, he's in the water dish.
Hi, Mitty. Hi, Mitty. Hi. Yeah. Oh, Scooby. What's Scooby doing?
Got his own little personal pond. Scooby. Hi, Coco. I don't have anything for you.
Oh, and here comes Blackie. Hey.
Yeah. So it doesn't look too bad. It's got a little rough around the edges, but then,
of course, this camera's only been out for, I don't know, just over a week, I think. So they'll
have some kinks to iron out, I'm sure. But when I saw it, I thought, oh, this is a good camera for
Terra. You just push it once and it starts recording automatically. You don't have to
really do anything. And then I can edit it and post afterwards. So we do have some sad news.
We did lose an animal this past week. And it was one of the, well, the other half of the high guys.
So High was found. He was found in the bush during the week. Sluggish. He was kind of moping around.
We grabbed him, picked him up, put him inside the building with Scooby and Mitty. And the next day
he had passed. So we're not sure how old he was. His partner, Guys, passed away,
I believe it was last year. They may have been fairly old. Hi, Coda. And of course, we've got
our black cats. There are six of them, right, Coda? Coda is an eight-year-old that wandered
down our driveway one day. And he was abandoned. Either he was driven out to the country. What do
you have? We're in your kitty litter box. And he just kind of wandered down the driveway. He was
either dumped or he wandered all the way from the city, which is about 20 minutes away.
What are you doing? You want down? Okay, there you go. So he's about eight years old.
Now that brings me to Tear. So Tear is in the basement bathroom. And he's still in there,
kind of in isolation. We're going to leave him in there for at least another week. We have
our ducks being cleaned. Not our ducks. Our ducks were being cleaned in the video earlier.
Our duct system for our furnace is being cleaned this week. So we don't want him kind of out here
and then all the chaos of that going on. I figured, you know, we'll save him that and leave
him in the bathroom there. But we want to move him out into this area here. He will likely not
go upstairs right away. But we want these guys to kind of train him just to show him that,
you know, we're good people. Right, Koda? And that he can trust us. So he is coming along nicely.
So that is it for this video. Baby goats, kid goats within the next couple weeks.
So that's going to be exciting. We'll probably be putting out more videos in a shorter time span.
We usually do when the kid goats come around, just so we can share that with you.
Watch us on our Facebook and Instagram. We'll try to do up-to-date stories on that. What do you want?
You want pet Koda? He does this thing, a few of them do, where they kind of go up and paw at you.
And then that hair. Oh, buddy. So until next video, whenever that is, next weekend,
have a wonderful week. And if you want to check out one of the previous years of kid goats,
you can click up here. Take care, have a wonderful week, and we will see you next video. Bye-bye.
