2019 Nissan Rogue SL Platinum AWD ProPilot Test Drive Review

Hello ladies and gentlemen, it's Christopher from Cars Unlocked. Today we are going to be test driving the 2019 Nissan Rogue. So I've done a full walk around and review of the Nissan Rogues. I'm going to put them in the description so you can see me going through the ins and outs. They changed the body style up in 2014. They gave it a complete redesign and the sales really took off. In 2017 they changed a few things. They did a little bit of refresh. In this 2019 model there's only just a few added features like the Android Auto. The ProPILOT Assist they added a few years ago and now that comes with the SV Tech Pack. We're going to try all that stuff out shortly. The Rogue is known for having a lot of interior passenger volume. There's a ton of space for a small crossover, a lot of cargo space and they're extremely good on fuel. One thing that I'm always impressed with in the Nissan Rogue is the comfort. The NASA inspired zero gravity seats that Nissan really advertises really help with long drives. I've said that before in my reviews but these seats, honestly guys, they're super comfortable. Especially you notice them when you do a two, three hour drive in one of these. There's a lot less fidgeting and you just don't need to get out and stretch your legs as much because the seats are extremely comfortable. There's also a lot of soft surfaces throughout. Soft elbow rests on the door. This center console is very soft to rest my elbow. So I'm very pleased with the comfort. Now in 2019 they've added the Android Auto to all the Nissan Rogues. That comes standard. So that's a bonus as well for the cars that don't come equipped with nav. But this one comes with the GPS and the backup camera. All the features that are involved in this huge eight inch touch screen here. This one being the top model, it has the full Nissan 360 safety shield. It's going to give you the things like the blind spot monitoring system, the lane departure warning, the forward emergency braking, the pedestrian detection. It's going to help when you're backing up with the cross traffic alert as well as the cross traffic pedestrian detection. So it will actually stop for you if you're about to hit something and apply the brake for you. It's also going to come with the intelligent cruise control which works in conjunction with the pro pilot which we're going to test out once we get on the highway here. Under the hood the Rogue comes equipped with a 2.5 four cylinder engine. It's going to give you about 170 horsepower and it does use a Nissan CVT transmission. So it doesn't have as much power as I would like. I find with the Rogues when it's just me in the car I can drive and there's a lot of acceleration but if I have four or five passengers in the car it does feel a little sluggish with that CVT. And where we are in the Niagara region on a cold winter day the CVT and the engine can be really loud. It does have a loud growl to it. I'm going to put my foot down here as we enter on the highway and you can almost hear it. It is a lot louder because of that CVT than a regular automatic transmission but it still takes off very very quickly. So we've now activated the pro pilot assist and the intelligent cruise control where it's going to keep me centered in the lane and it's going to help keep me a safe distance from the car in front of me. So now it's beeping at me just telling me to keep my hands on the wheel because I took my hands off the wheel for a long time but really it just keeps me at a safe speed like we've locked it in at about 95 kilometers an hour now and it's keeping me about three car lengths from the car in front of me. You can see the wheel turning as I'm driving here with no hands and then it just beeps at you every couple seconds to tell you to put your hands back on the wheel. Kind of gets annoying but for a hands free car I can really take my hands off the wheel. Good if I want to maybe drink my coffee. In stop and go traffic I can see how this is really going to help because it will really eliminate that stop and go. Like if you're going downtown Toronto or if you're in a busy urban area you're not going to need to worry about stopping and going because it's going to keep you a safe distance from the car in front of you. So the ProPILOT Assist I really like it. I've used it a couple times while driving these cars like the Altima and the Rogue. Now they're putting it in the Murano as well. So again the blind spot warning has been around for a long time but you're going to see it light up here as this truck passes us here. So it lights up yellow and it will tell you that someone is in the blind spot. If I signal to change lanes see how it's flashing there. That tells me hey there's someone in my blind spot just don't change lanes. If I go to change lanes it also has the prevention where it will beep at me but I'm not going to risk it next to this big 18 wheeler here. So another added safety feature with that 360 safety suite.
