Mercedes Benz AMG GLE 63 S First Impression, Walk Around, Test Drive, Launch and Review

So I'm here in front of Oakville Mercedes-Benz. We're here to see Chris. He's gonna hook us up with a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE AMG S. I can't wait. Let's go check it out and find him. So I'm here with Chris Rutledge of Mercedes-Benz Oakville. Tell us a little bit about the place, Chris. Thank you for having us on the show. Tell us about everything. Well, Mercedes-Benz Oakville is one of the unique Canadian Mercedes-Benz dealerships in that it's one of the oldest established dealerships in Canada, and we've been trading Mercedes-Benz from this location since the 1950s. In fact, we still have the same phone number we had in 1959. So it's a very well established, it's been part of Oakville culture and heritage and motoring culture and heritage for, you know, a good 60 plus years. And one of the benefits of that being established so close to Mercedes-Benz is that we get to be an AMG specialist store. So we get to have amazing product like the car that we're looking at you guys gonna check out today. This is a 2021 GLE 63 S. So this is the pride of the fleet from Mercedes-Benz SUVs. It's a completely hand built engine done by one engineer at the AMG factory in Germany. He builds the whole thing by hand, blueprints it by hand, and then he puts his own name plaque taking full responsibility for the craftsmanship. This engine is as complicated and rarer than a Rolex watch. Wow, I can't wait to check it out. So again, what you'll see when you're driving the vehicle, obviously enormous performance over 600 brake horsepower, it'll run out to about 280 kilometers and it'll do the 100 in under four seconds, which for a vehicle of this size and presence is an amazing technical feat. But another thing you'll find about the GLE, the AMG specification car is the technology and have a good look at the technology because this is the state of the art technology that Mercedes-Benz can produce. It's got an autonomous driving feature with the intelligent drive package. It's loaded with sensors. It's one of the safest vehicles you can get on the road. And with that kind of performance and horsepower, that's what you're going to need. Amazing. I can't wait to try it. I had to pull this thing over just to get a good look at the exterior. I'm loving this exterior black here. It's in the obsidian black, and then you get the AMG Night Package. Fully specced out. This one also has a premium package. It's going to have an MSRP of about $149,000. When you look at the front, super aggressive AMG front end with that vertical Pan America grill, nice LED headlights. And then we have our blacked out front apron here. Under the hood, we have that V8 bi-turbo engine. Going to give you about 603 horsepower and 627 pounds feet of torque. Everything is handcrafted. This one, Stefan Widmeier. Thank you for doing that for us, Stefan. Gorgeous under here. I can't wait to open it up a little bit on the road. You're going to get a few different drive modes, things like comfort mode, sport mode. There's a sport plus. There's a race mode. There's also a sand mode. And then it's going to be attached to that nine-speed automatic transmission. Sitting on these 22-inch summer performance tires, you have your slotted ceramic brakes as well. And then we move on. You can see we have our power folding mirrors with our LED accents, nice black roof rails, and then just a little touch of chrome on the handles as well. Just really helps that obsidian black pop there. Coming around to the back, we have our side sensors as well. That's going to help when parking. This one has the premium package, so it has all the safety features and the driver assistance technologies. Things like a backup camera and rear sensors are all standard. But look at this. With this AMG Night Package that you get, you get these nice blacked out chrome exhaust finishes as well. Quad exhaust. Let's make it rev and hear it roar. Checking out the inside, there's a ton of stuff going on here. Like I said, this one has that premium package. So you get this AMG leather with the suede inserts. You get the eight-way power adjustable driver's seat. It also has the knee support as well. Climate seats. So you have air-conditioned and heated seats. And then you have the memory positions, up to three memory positions if you have multiple drivers. I love this center console here that we have going on. You have this nice carbon fiber accents all around the dash as well and throughout the vents. And I got to talk about the wheel. The wheel is pretty crazy. You get this kind of race-like feel. You have your paddle shifters. You have your cruise control adjustment as well as you have the automatic cruise control, which comes right through and you can see right into the heads-up display. But then I have these two different dials here as well, where I can adjust, like I said, outside my different drive modes. So I can adjust my sport mode. I can adjust my comfort mode, race mode, all in here using this dial. And I can also adjust, like I said, that air balance of the suspension. You can really customize this thing to drive how you want it to feel. Behind the wheel, we have these two large screens here. This one is touchscreen in the center here, you can see. And then you have your gauge clusters behind the wheel, which isn't a touchscreen, but still very easy to navigate through. I can do a lot of things. I can turn off my auto start-stop. Like I said, I can adjust my wheels and my modes. And I can also just use my left screen to control this and my right side of the wheel to control this. So here I can cycle through. There's a little track pad. See, I can change my designs on the screen. Like, I could talk about this for a whole other video and go through this here. But like, look at everything you can do here and change. It's nice and easy to change, so you don't have to take your hands off the wheel. And I can do the same here. This is more like our radio, our phone, our media. Track package, got to open that up and see the track package. And you can do your navigation all on this large screen. Everything is nice and very vivid. Easy to navigate through, super large screen, easy to control. Obviously, no matter which car you get, it's going to take some getting used to. But this is phenomenal. You can also use the Mercedes me and the voice commands to kind of tell the car to do whatever you want, especially for the navigation. It's nice and easy. Just push the button. Take us to Toronto. I am starting route guidance to Toronto, Ontario. So there you go, nice and easy. You can see it displays. There's our front facing camera. There's our directions. So super easy to navigate where you want to go. And the cameras will come on and off as you get up to speed and lower speed. I could talk about this for a long time, guys, all the tech in this car. I'm going to do a full separate video of going through all the screens and how you can control your whole screens. And make sure you check that video out for a full tutorial of how to go through. But let's continue and just keep going through this thing here. The heating controls are down below. We also have a QI charger, which tucks below in our little center stack here. There's a little hidden storage. And I got to mention these cup holders. So the cup holders are heated and cooled. So if you put your Timmy's in there, it will keep your Timmy's nice and warm if you're on a long drive. Or you can adjust it to the cold setting to keep it nice and cold. Continuing on towards the back, you can also, if you don't want to use the pad on your wheel here, you can use the track pad and the mouse pad right on the center console here as well, which you can adjust. You can also adjust your drive modes, like I mentioned, your radio. So if you just want to use kind of your idling hand here, you can turn on the camera. There's our cameras for the car. And then I can go down. There's my forward view. There's so much you can go over here, guys. There's Isaac back there figuring things out. Before we move on to the rear, you got to take a look at the sunroof and the roof. With this AMG Night Package, you get this suede blacked out headliner, which is very, very sharp. And then you have this huge large roof, which is going to go all the way to the back there. You can see it opens up. Nice wind guard as well. That's a lot of light into the vehicle and just makes the car feel a lot bigger. So you get the upgraded Burmeister sound system. You can also plug in and do your Apple CarPlay and your Android Auto. You're going to have satellite radio as well. Listen to this sound system. Pretty eye-opening there how vivid that is and how you heard those drums. Let's jump in the back and look at the space. My gosh, there's a ton of room back here. Look how much leg space I have. This seat is how I would be driving. And then not only is there space, but there is a handful of comfort here. This is an air-conditioned seat as well. So we can adjust that here. And then I have the power shades to protect me from the sunlight as well with the windows. So just a little added feature. Most of the cars I've done, it's a manual thing. This one, it's all power. Look how that comes up one more time here. Just with the touch of a button. I can also control my ventilation back here. There's a USB as well to charge my phone and I have a little phone storage and a nice fat cup holder in the door here. Pull down the center armrest and there's another cup holder as well. So a ton of comfort back here. This is your perfect kind of family and performance mixture here. Your kids would be comfortable back here and you would still have a real pleasure driving this car on a day-to-day basis. Let's open up the rear and check out the cargo area. Like I said, it's perfect for your family and you do have a ton of storage in here. You can see we got all of our gear bags in here. So we got a knapsack, a suitcase, a few other things in the back, and there's still a ton of space for more. You can also lock your spare tire as well and you can keep that locked. Gonna come with your Mercedes first aid kit in the little side pocket there. Privacy cover as well to stop people from looking in the back. I gotta show you guys this. Makes it a lot easier if you're loading things in and out. If you have big heavy items, with the touch of a button it will just lower the suspension of the trunk there and you can see I can raise and I can lower the trunk and that just makes it easier for whatever you're putting in and out. Look at there now it's going down. So if you have those big heavy items it's a little easier to get out. So the throttle response is phenomenal on this thing. The reason why I would buy this car or the reason what would attract me this car, it's basically like a family size SUV with like a jet powered engine in the back. Like it takes off crazy. You can drive it like when you want to drive smooth, you drive smooth in the comfort modes. When you want to go fast you can put it in the sport mode and drive in the sport mode. But there's a ton of cool stuff you can do here. Like the massaging seats are nice on those long trips. You can also set your different radiances so it will kind of have a different fragrance at you. We were playing around with that earlier. But I'm just going to talk about how it handles and how it drives. Like it's such a smooth drive and it can be loud when it wants to be loud. Like when you want it to be loud you can make it loud. But when you want it to be quiet and smooth you can just set your different trip here and it's quiet and smooth. So like right now we're driving in the comfort mode. Let's just flip it over to sport mode and you can even just hear right away you can hear the sound. I don't know if you can hear it through the microphone but you can hear the sound of it picking up. So definitely love all the different drive modes and how you can kind of change and customize the vehicle. It certainly handles like a boss and for a $150,000 SUV you're probably giving up your sports car for this. So you want that feeling. Like look at that thing go in a second. They say it will do like your 0-60 is I think 3.7. I was researching. Yeah so we're going to do a little bit of a launch here. There is really no countdown like we saw in kind of the Audi RS video that I filmed. But let's just see how we can do it here. Oh not bad. Like when you feel that when you put your foot down listen to this thing roar. Like geez definitely wake the neighbors up with this thing. Technology wise it's also like really really neat with all these different radars and sensors here. You have your intelligent cruise control. You have your lane assist. It will actually change lanes for you if you're driving on the highway. So that's really neat. I'm super pleased with all the sensors on the car. The cameras come up when you're turning which really helps. So if for example like you're you're a dad and you're just trying to drive safe like you can definitely keep that tone down and use all the technology for just a comfortable ride. All right so my overall thoughts on the 2021. Definitely a super fun car to drive. I've said this four times already. I like the mix between comfort and performance. I like all the tech.
