Using the Alley Youth Hostel (our favorite place we.ve stayed in China and by far the cheapest) as our home base, we roam the streets of Xian looking for street food and other tasty meals and you know it doesn't take us more than a minute to find it! We dive right into Lamb Kebabs and have a nice feast of Xian local food for about $2 US. As we are in Xian's Muslim quarter, most of the meat offerings are lamb and chicken which works great for us because we love eating both! We spend hours wandering through the street markets in which you can find absolutely anything you want to (and even a few things you wish you hadn't found). We saw some beautiful combs and other trinkets carved from Water Buffalo horns that were so beautiful! Something we aren't a huge fan of is how fast everyone...yes everyone...careens through pedestrian crowded streets on their scooters. The rule of the road seems to be go as fast as you can while honking your horn and hoping people move out of the way. Hey, when in Rome ;-) We wander through west gate and around the gorgeous city wall and through city wall park. What an awesome piece of history! While sampling random delicious treats along the street we come upon Sour Plum Juice completely by mistake (I thought I was ordering Ginger Tea) and it ends up being our newest addiction! So yummy! By the way, did we mention the amazing Xian City Wall? We did? Well it's worth mentioning again!

This is the common area of our hostel. It is cool. We did say we were done with hostels,
but this isn't really a hostel. We've got like a queen bed. This is a hotel and it's really nice.
Yeah. I have not heard country music in a long time. This is cool.
Yesterday I had this. It was really good and I had to come back for another one and this
cost 90 cents and it's crab. It's lamb on a stick. They cut off and then they put
vegetable blips and spices and it's really good.
Hits the spot. And that was a buck 20. Lamb and fries. This isn't just like the same street over
and over again. Just street after street after street. This place is cool. Yummy. There's
everything from mundane to really exotic food offerings. Anything you can imagine to buy at a
store. Water buffalo horns. Made into combs. Oh combs. And the street food here is cheap.
Shanghai was awesome, but definitely way more expensive than China.
These things are like dragon's breath balls. They're frozen with liquid nitrogen and then
they make your breath foamy. My sister-in-law said they taste like crap. You should try them.
I think I'll take her word for it. Hand-rolled cigarettes. There's so much cool stuff around.
What they lack in engine noise because of the electric engines,
they make up for with the constant honking.
Ice cream. I have no idea what this is. It doesn't look really old, but it's pretty.
Khaleesi. You shouldn't be surprised. And guess who wants to go in? Hey, it's a grocery store.
Here we go. There's the west gate. The moment we're walking around the outside of the wall,
this wall goes all the way around the old city. It's kilometers long. I don't know how long.
It's long. We're going to do the whole thing I think here at some point.
I don't know if this is City World Park. We are definitely getting the quintessential
China experience. We've seen elderly folks playing mahjong in the park and now we've seen this.
Public ping-pong. That's cool. There's tons of tables all the way down here.
That is the moon bridge. This moat down here that goes around outside the wall
is full of koi and it is a big moat. There's all sizes of koi down here.
Like piranha. That is a lot of koi. Interesting fact, there's only one corner that's round. The
other three are square. This walk around the wall is so beautiful. We can get up on top too. We
haven't checked on that yet to ride bikes or walk on the top. I didn't even know this city had a
wall. We were just coming for the terracotta soldiers and did a little bit of looking into
the city and there's so much history here. I mean, this is an ancient wall. It's amazing.
We were walking around the wall until it got dark. We didn't make it all the way around. No.
It's a long wall. Wandered back into the city to see some more pretty lights
and get some food. I think we found some food.
That is using all the meat off the lamb. We're trying this. We don't know what it is.
Like a jello but rice. Maybe rice jello. It's savory. It's a gelatinous mass.
So fun surprises. I got one of these thinking it was ginger tea hot. It turns out that it's
cold but it's a really good prune juice drink. It's really, I like it a lot. Awesome.
This is a Wednesday night. It's crazy. Every night. Hi. Hi. Where are you guys from?
California. Los Angeles. Glendale, California to be exact. We're so unique here. We met these
nice ladies and started chit-chatting because we're not the only people we can talk to.
Peace. Have a good trip.
That's awesome. Wow. That is the drum tower at night. But what are those?
Quail egg skewer. It is yum.
Click the thumbs up and subscribe. No, that was good.
