Hi everyone! The second part of our Victorian terrace home renovations is up! We converted the loft into a third bedroom, created an upstairs hallways with spot lights and redecorated the first floor bedrooms to become the children's rooms. Most of the furniture is from Ikea!
Hello and welcome back to my channel. I'd love for you to subscribe to my channel if you're new around here.
Today's video isn't about the allotment, I'm sure you can tell.
I'm going to do my part two of my house update, renovation update.
So if you haven't seen the first video, I'm going to link it now.
So you can click on that, have a look at where we were probably, I think we filmed that like 2-3 months ago.
And then you can click back on this one and see where we are now.
So I'm going to start the tour in exactly the same place as I did last time.
And we got our dining room back, so I just want to really, really quickly show you.
Because this room was kind of full of junk and stuff and it wasn't really usable.
So when we got our extension done we actually lost our dining room.
We just couldn't use it, it was just completely ridiculous.
So, it's by no means finished yet, but we actually have a functioning dining room people, which feels amazing.
We actually have a table in the middle, I've put up some Christmas stuff now.
There's a lot of decorations around the place.
That's our kitchen over there, and then this is our natural dining room.
I mean, what else could you make it really?
I got this storage here, which I got books and stuff in.
But again, it's all very temporary, I haven't decided where anything is going.
We don't have a proper coat, like a place to put coats away.
And the shoe rack is now down here.
We have the piano in the room as well.
So now we actually have a functioning dining room, which is just great.
And then through here is the hallway.
The hallway hasn't really changed much.
We do have new doors now.
Part of our regulation was that we had to have fire doors put on.
So we got brand new fire doors, and we need to finish off the frames for them.
Which is fine, I'll get around to that.
I painted the stairs with chalk paint, just because we've done the upstairs and painted the floors upstairs.
And I wanted it to look kind of in keeping with the upstairs.
So this is now painted with a chalk paint, which is really, really durable actually.
And anything just wipes off of it.
Which is pretty amazing.
The stairs are still pretty narrow.
We were going to have a wall put up, but we changed our minds and went for these wooden slats instead.
Just to let a little light through.
And I think they work really well.
I haven't decided if we're going to paint them, sand them, varnish them.
I don't know yet.
But I'll show you what they kind of look like.
So you can imagine that that would have been a proper solid wall.
And instead we put this in.
And I think it just allows, you can see the passage through.
And it just opens up the stairs a little bit.
Because the stairs were quite dark and dirty.
And then we painted all the floorboards.
Sanded and painted in this nice light grey color.
Haven't done the skirting boards and all the door frames and stuff yet.
I don't know what color to do that.
But I'll start with Alice's room.
Because, if you remember from my last video, or if you've gone back and seen it.
This was the room we were all sharing.
And it's now become Alice's very, very pink bedroom.
So we were all sharing this room.
And it was just a big double bed.
And then the kids' mattresses were on the floor.
And we did that for quite a few months actually.
I don't know how we did it.
I don't know how we survived.
This side of my room is my favorite side though.
I'll show you this.
Because we've kept the original Victorian fireplace.
We have the downstairs cabinet up here now for all her toys.
Which I think just looks really smart and nice.
I need to get a picture in there.
She wants a Harry Potter picture.
That's fine. I'll be right there.
Maybe for Christmas.
I painted her chest nice and pink.
So I really like this side of the room.
But yeah.
There's Alice's room.
Again we had new fire doors put on.
Anywhere there's a door that leads to the stairs or the hallway.
We had to have a new fire door put on.
Right, around here.
This is our new hallway.
This is our new hallway that didn't really exist.
We've kept it nice and white.
Painted the floorboards.
And put up some fun pictures.
Just because it's quite dark.
But we also put in.
The spotlights.
So we have spotlights.
Where are they? - They're not here.
All the way up the ceiling.
Which I think just helps brighten up this corridor here.
- That's pretty good.
And then through here.
You can probably see now that we've made Tommy's room.
And it's like a new room.
New walls put in.
So this is Tommy's bedroom.
He's lucky because he's got this massive, massive Victorian window.
Which is the original one.
And it's just massive compared to the room.
Which really lights up the whole room.
We've painted his floorboards again.
A white color.
And he's got a little rug there.
I painted a little square on the wall.
Put up some pictures for some color.
And then around here I have these.
These are actually Ikea shelves.
Like bookshelves.
Everyone has these I think.
Who has kids.
Because they're just so useful for putting up books.
I painted his chest of drawers bright orange.
And some of the skirting board is orange.
I'm not sure if you can see.
I'm not sure why I did that.
But you know it was fun.
And then he's got his little desk as well.
With a little picture rail above it.
And some more storage under there.
We were debating whether to go for a big toy storage unit.
Or desks.
And I went for desks at the end.
And I'm so glad I did.
Because we had to collect a lot of the toys.
And by colt I mean throw away.
Just to make room.
Because there was no room for them.
But the desks are so used.
He sits at this desk, so does Alice.
They draw and paint.
The desks are just used so much more.
Than a big storage unit of toys would be.
Where they just would never get them out.
But when you have a desk like this.
And everything is out.
And ready for them to play.
You know they're so much more inclined to come and sit.
And actually do something.
So I'm really glad we went for desks.
And really quickly these curtains here.
These were £17.99 from Amazon.
I just Googled star curtains.
Because I couldn't find any anywhere.
And they're so good.
They're like proper blackout curtains.
So I know we have blinds up.
But look.
They make the room so dark.
It's amazing. I mean, it's amazing.
And they're so cheap.
So I definitely recommend looking on Amazon for curtains.
Right leaving Tommy's room behind.
I love his room.
And then you come down the new corridor here.
And we moved the bathroom door forward.
I think I said this in my last vlog.
But you can kind of see what it looks like.
So the bathroom obviously isn't done yet.
The door was supposed to start here.
And then there's our very, very old bathroom.
And this all needs to come out really.
But we moved the door right back here instead.
Which I just think works so much better.
And it shortens this corridor.
I don't know if you can see any of these guys.
I'm so sorry about that.
But it shortens the long corridor.
Because otherwise we've got a pretty long narrow corridor.
And now it just feels a little shorter.
I don't know if that makes any sense at all.
This is the beginning of our loft.
And we have a sliding door.
Which is also a fire door.
As per the regulations.
We went for the sliding door.
Just because I think if a door was swinging open here.
It would be a little in the way.
Wouldn't it? I mean,
So we went for the sliding door.
So it's quite heavy because it's a fire door.
And then I'll just walk you up.
So again I painted the stairs the same color as downstairs.
Although it's a little dark on the stairs.
It's nice and bright up here, I promise.
So we come around our stairs.
And here's our brand new loft room.
We have spotlights.
Not that you're interested in spotlights.
But there we go.
If I stand over here.
Right, so I have my desk.
And then we have our big double bed there.
And then you can see how it works now.
On this side of the room.
We have wardrobes.
And the TV and a drawer.
You see, I'm not.
And then on the other side of the room.
It's Dave's new desk area.
For working.
And then we have these railings in the middle.
Banner stairs, whatever you call them.
So if I come by here.
Look, the kids have been up here.
They love it up here.
They love to sit it's like little nooks isn't it.
And then look in here.
Dave's got his desk set up.
Which we don't know how long this is going to be.
Life now I don't know.
This could be forever who knows.
And then like the living area.
Like the sleeping area over there.
So what might you want to know?
The green color on the wall is a farrow and ball color.
It's green smoke.
The white one on the wall.
Is my favorite white color ever.
Which is called white fog.
And it's by Dulux.
And what else?
Laminate flooring.
We laid this down ourselves.
This wasn't fun, guys.
But we went for the laminate.
Just because it was cheaper.
And I think it looks pretty nice.
It's got a little oak in it.
Kind of shiny to it.
It wasn't that expensive.
It wasn't the hardest thing in the world to lay.
I said I wouldn't want to do it again.
The wardrobes are from Ikea.
Very, very cheap wardrobes.
75 and 110 pounds or something like that.
We're going to get new handles for them.
And jazz them up a little.
But I don't like spending a lot of money on furniture.
Not when there's an Ikea.
If Ikea exists, why spend more on furniture?
I don't know, I'm not sure.
My little dressing table is Ikea as well.
I love the window.
Because it's so big.
It's a massive one.
It took four men to get this window in.
It all came together as one complete window.
And it was just so funny to see them get it all in.
But yeah, I love it.
Love it, love it, love it. I know.
Right, there you go.
There's my little updated house tour.
I kept promising you that I would do it.
And so many people keep asking,
When are you going to do the house tour?
So there's the house tour.
Now you know why I haven't been to the plot so much.
And what's been going on in the life behind the scenes.
We painted and decorated this whole thing ourselves.
We did all the flooring ourselves.
Did all the wall and everything.
The painting, the mist coat, the real paint.
Putting up the furniture.
Everything we sort of did ourselves.
So it's just taken so much time.
But I'm so incredibly lucky
that we each have our own bedrooms now.
The only room left to do it in the house now
is the bathroom upstairs.
Which I'm really excited about doing
Because it's a bit of a state at the moment.
But yeah, we'll get there.
I mean, we only moved in here a year ago.
And we knew we had to do the loft.
So we just thought, let's just get on and do the loft.
You can probably hear a train now.
They run right behind our house.
But yeah, so we did the loft anyway.
But yeah, I'm really, really pleased with it.
I hope you enjoyed this video.
