London Lions vs. Cheshire Phoenix - Condensed Game
This went down to Shama.
Shama looks like he's going to go for a post-up.
Gets a handoff now with Taylor.
Taylor's up in the mid-range, takes it,
and sinks that one right in the face of Will Naber.
Jordan's been great so far.
He stepped in, really didn't have
many practices under his belt.
He came in.
I get the feeling the Phoenix are going to try and have
their bread and butter from the perimeters.
Now Taylor goes all the way.
Jordan, Taylor goes in with a fanger roll.
And that's too easy for Taylor.
Decker tries to find Nelson on the backdoor plate.
Gets a reversal.
Now Shama's hit a few threes.
They have to get some scorches.
Well, Brent, let me tell you.
BBL play of the month.
You know, we need him to continue that.
But you know what?
I'll see it every once in a while.
I'll be happy with it.
Here he is here, sliding his feet, contesting, walling up.
I mean, personally, that was a good shot by Teague right there.
But yeah, you know, the key for him
is just staying on the floor.
When he's on the floor, he's a game changer.
Obviously, we saw a contested three-make from Jermell
Anderson right there.
Phoenix with a chance to tie the game up, possibly take the lead.
Teague down the middle, goes up.
Again, he finishes that one.
The help side defense, just a little too slow to react.
And too easy.
Well, Teague turns it over.
Now Lions have got numbers here.
It's a 3-on-2 here with Nelson.
He's got Shama.
Finds Shama.
Throwdown time.
Well, copper box all of a sudden.
The offensive rebound put back there by Larry Austin.
Again, Brent, you know, looking at Larry Austin.
Just rubbed things on the defensive end.
But you've got to keep him out of the paint.
You know, he's electric.
He's athletic.
There you go.
Little neighbor, a little jump up there.
Well, neighbor giving the Phoenix.
And neighbor turns over the ball.
But Nelson now putting his hands in a kooky job.
Teague down the middle, goes up.
Can he finish it?
Yes, he can.
And now it's a four-point lead to the Phoenix.
Yeah, and a timeout here, quick.
Zutich and Shama is tough to score.
Well, Nelson now throwing this down to Zuba.
Got it by Acirobi.
A turnaround jump up.
Textbook play there by the BBL Croatian Sensation.
Finds a magician.
Long 3-3 is up.
Shama, offensive rebound.
He'll go up.
Again, too easy for Josh Shama.
Yeah, but you're right.
Kostas Koufas doing a fantastic job for the Lions.
And then Shama, who comes off the bench.
And he just makes a layup there.
Void in the block shot.
You know, it's good to have Obi back for sure.
Yeah, really good.
He's so physical.
Whoa.
Somebody explain to me what we just
saw in the physics of basketball.
I don't think we have an explanation for that one.
Olovisoko trying to go into Japan.
Played in the Pro-R LNB in France for Le Mans South.
And before that, he was with Bucap Murvia Asolwane
from downtown.
Again, you can't leave the magician wide open
as he sinks that one.
He set what's called like a little butt screen.
He flipped over the top to carve out space
to give Moe that shot open.
So those are the little things he does to impact the game.
Yeah, you're right.
That will never show up in the box.
Person you wouldn't know that it affects it.
So I'm glad to see him back on the floor.
Well, Obi playing at the high post now.
Kicks up to Kamagam.
He'll take the 3.
And again, Brett, I got a nickname for him.
The BBL Rabidari.
Well, if he's a bad boy, he gets that one.
I think he'll fight through it.
I think he'll be all right.
Asolwane, most magicians pull rabbits out of a hat.
He pulls triples.
And it's now split in defense.
No foul go well.
Ladies and gentlemen, look out below.
It's not Love Island.
It's Obi Soko with a two-handed jam.
It's going to be a great event.
I was beyond shocked last year when
I showed up at the cup final.
I didn't know what to expect.
It was my first time attending.
The event in itself, the league does a great job.
It's great.
We're always one day at a time.
We're not looking forward to anything.
But once this game is over tonight, hopefully with a win,
then these guys will start locking in.
And I know they're set for it.
Really loving life here in London.
Trying to shake and bake here.
Going baseline goes Ward-Hibbett.
And again, easy layup for Brett.
We've got to go back to the previous play.
Ward-Hibbett for me.
Asolwane running off another bull screen.
Another backdoor play finds Ward-Hibbett.
Can he get that good help side defense from Austin?
Now, Jamal Addison, he'll go up.
Solowade unable to get the block shot.
Both teams here need to add more pressure.
They need to get on the ball.
They need to start changing direction.
Right now, both teams are able to do whatever they want.
There's no thrust.
They're not making guys work for anything.
So hopefully we see a change a little bit.
Larry Austin pinned off the backboard
like a magnet on the refrigerator.
Corner three, Solowade.
The magician will make that three magic tricks.
Big block by Ovi there.
And then into the offensive end.
Looking good, London Lions, as they make this roll.
Well, Cheshire trying to battle for everything.
Evans wanting to get an add one, but the officials
are going to let that one go.
You're going to be a three man.
You're going to handle the ball.
And now you're seeing his full skill set.
So he's been great in that role.
Having a great year for us.
And hopefully he continues.
Great move right there by Teague.
Taylor now getting a handoff on Shama.
Run the bull screen.
Well, look out below.
Goodnight!
Again, Shama Airlines, no delays on the takeoff.
Playing him at the three.
Playing him at the small forward position.
He's being guarded by 6'6", 6'5".
You know, his game is not predicated on setting screens,
which is a great drive there by Waltz.
Jacket secures a rebound.
But now Lions can try to push this.
Taylor stepping up again.
All the way, wraparound again.
Too easy.
That was a help side defense.
We try to put him in wrinkles and sets
to basically have the other team scout and game
plan multiple different ways.
Good shot there by Will Naver.
A little turnaround.
But Tomislav also is just a fun guy.
I think he just brings a lovely energy as he hits the three
right on the money.
Thank you.
You know, a basketball team and the chemistry.
Yeah, definitely.
He's definitely found his joy.
He's got a-
Well, Taylor now heavily guarded by Evans.
Jacket setting a hard bull screen.
Switch on defense.
Guarded by Teague.
Taylor goes in.
Little Iceman fang roll.
Well, Lions just looking to replay it.
Crossover, avoids the block, and kisses that one
off the backboard.
Right on time.
Taylor now looking for a lob here.
Finding Decker in the corner.
Decker takes a three.
And the former Houston Rockets nailing it.
Puts up a Hail Mary three.
And again, that's going to be a good reaction from Sam Decker.
And a two-handed jam from Shama.
Captain Josh Shama, we have lift off.
Sam Decker on Twitter.
He's mostly tweeting about the NFL.
That was a rejection by Shama.
Shama again.
We'll see, because Nelson trying to kick this out to Zuba.
One more pass.
Taylor, three in the corner.
Three is up.
No good.
Decker with the offensive rebound.
And pulls his way into the bucket.
Nelson goes in.
Iceman, who missed the layup.
Now they've got numbers in.
Teague and Larry Austin.
Austin goes up to get the and one.
And he'll go to the free throw line for the three-point play.
Well, now we're in the sixth of the shot clock.
Taylor penetrates.
Kicks out to Zuba.
Zuba down the middle.
Goes up.
And he'll get the and one.
And the BBL Croatian sensation.
Taylor now faking a bounce pass.
Trying to get down the middle to fade away the mid-range up.
And it's simply automatic from JT.
Seven on the shot clock.
David trying to go all the way.
Humphrey kicks out to Jamel Anderson.
He'll take the three.
Again, Jamel Anderson, a much-needed three-pointer.
Big monumental event there, and a big accolade
for British basketball.
The three on three, or the 3X3, excuse me.
3X3, yep.
Zuba had the three-pointer.
Steps back.
Uncontested.
Takes it.
Nails it.
Up to the net from the BBL Croatian sensation.
Nelson patiently trying to look for options.
Zuba with a post-up.
Turns around.
And my goodness gracious, give this man some credit.
This man's jump shot's been terrific.
Here after the game, what they're saying on the court,
I feel like they're a little bit extra nervous right now
because of that.
But hopefully not too much.
Well, bounce pass.
Finally, Larry Austin quickly finishing that one.
Good transition play from the Phoenix.
Lines again, trying to do that pick-and-roll action.
Go back to Soko.
A little teardrop in the mid-range.
Ovi Soko with a beautiful touch.
James Bryce has seen enough.
He's against the Phoenix, where Mo Salawati
took the one-legged three-pointer
from the half court.
Now Evans going up, finding ways in the lane.
Now he'll get the and one.
The bank is open.
He'll go to the free-throw line here.
That was his way.
Ward-Hibbett gets a three.
It's up, but no good.
Kamaga battling offensive rebound.
And the young fella, I've got to say,
the big man, battling his way.
Jamel Anderson coming up with it.
Two seconds on the shot clock baseline.
He's got to take the shot now, mid-range.
He'll take it.
Again, six-out-one.
Listen to the Houston Rockets, where Robert
Ory had the record for steals.
I think I was watching an interview with Robert Ory
and Ali G, and he said, I've got the record for stealing.
Soko now, all the way.
Too easy.
Rattles his way to the bucket.
Under 10, the shot clock now.
Evans, step back, takes a mid-range.
The fadeaway, and again, right in the face
of Josh Ward-Hibbett.
Larry Austin scores a rebound.
Phoenix now, must get something going in the early stages.
Austin hanging in the air, avoids the block,
and somehow, someway, gets the layup to drop.
And that's coast-to-coast for Austin.
Goes up, and again, avoids the block,
but doesn't get the layup.
And now the Lions have numbers.
Finds Zuber in transition.
Zuber goes up, and he finishes that one.
Avoids the block, kicks out, but again, good defense.
Right again, the shot clock, and the prayer was answered.
But Larry Austin, the shot, but good ball movement here.
Wide open, Decker, three, takes it, doesn't get it.
But the follow-up, Zuber.
Well, Cheshire had the last donut,
but nobody called box out.
Zubtich gets on the board for the rebound.
Well, they've been finding Jamel Anson.
He's made two threes, make that three.
Well, Cheshire refusing to throw the towel in.
Well, that was the famous line.
I was about to say, are you endorsed by Nike?
Oh, yeah, well, Nike, look, see, here we still.
And he said, what do we have?
And again, he's going to lay that one up.
James Bryce confident now, trying
to pull his players on.
Nelson going baseline, throws in with a wraparound.
Iceman, finger roll.
We got to love how quickly Cheshire just
get the ball and down.
And Larry Austin punishes the Lions' transition defense.
Yeah, too easy, in my opinion.
Playing value possessions and just doing things
you're supposed to be doing.
Well, Decker now trying to isolate.
Goes off the back foot, too easy for the former Houston
Rocket.
Too long and lean, yeah.
I thought we were going to say together, just too good.
Oh, just too good, OK.
But the thing is right now, they can't trade this evening.
Because I've got to pick somebody
to have a little chat with.
Who are we going with?
I'm going Zuba, Zuba for me.
19 points.
Well, they have to look for the pick and pop.
So Jack is wide open the corner, but it goes to the baseline.
And a big block there.
Wasn't happy with Obisoko.
Picks up to Solihwade, throws a bullet pass.
And now, under two minutes, Austin trying to go all the way,
draws a foul, gets the M1, and he'll go to the free throw line.
Solihwade had the perimeter shot, didn't go for it, finds Decker.
Decker goes baseline.
No blocking foul called.
Machama under the basket.
Nobody bucks him out.
It's what this league has become.
I think it's little things.
I'm not saying this because you're sitting right next to me,
Well, that's a tough M1 play.
But what you guys have done.
About British basketball and bringing the best players.
Well, Larry Austin coming up with a steal there.
Failing to capitalize.
Maceo Jack just able to tuck that one away.
Having you in the fold, having you here calling these games
with us is just as big as bringing some of the best
players back.
So for me, I just want to say thank you.
I need a game here, but I want to say thank you for that as well.
Thank you very much.
I haven't had that praise in a very long time.
Ladies and gentlemen, to end this one,
the London Lions win 89 to 79.
