EMMA'S ALLOTMENT DIARIES / APRIL 2020 / PLANTING OUT SWEETCORN

Good morning everyone, welcome back to another allotment, what is that noise, oh for fakes. First of all I just want to say a big thank you to Beverly for suggesting the bloody fox top, obviously went and ordered myself one straight away, not sure about selling them because I just feel like I don't have that many followers yet and I feel like a bit of a knob to be honest, I don't think anyone would actually buy them, but I will consider it for future, maybe if I get to like 10,000 subscribers or something I'll think about giving away some bloody fox t-shirts, but thank you for the suggestion because I flipping love it. Right I'm here at my plot today, today is going to be a really hot day apparently, if I sound bunged up by the way it's hay fever, it's not coronavirus, I promise I haven't come here with coronavirus, I forgot that last night the weatherman said it's going to be really high pollen count today, so I've just come to the plot and I'm like, I can smell nature in the air. Not only am I crap at controlling nature, I'm also bloody allergic to it aren't I, so there's the irony. Right the jobs I want to do today, oh the scarecrow, some of you wanted to know where the scarecrow was in my last video, unfortunately his head exploded and he did fall down, so I'm going to put him back up today because it seems to have scared the fox away, bloody fox has been back again hasn't he, so I need to get the scarecrow back up because that seemed to work last time, even if his head did explode, maybe that scared the fox more, I don't know, I'm not a fox expert. Jobs I want to do today, it's going to be really hot today so I'm here really early, it's 8 o'clock in the morning because I know it's going to be packed here today, but also I want to top up my pond because apparently the reason that the water went down is for something called evaporation, so, so science-y isn't it, gardening, so science-y. I also want to water my stuff, you know, that I planted, what they're called, seeds, and I also want to plant in sweetcorn, I've got the incredible F1, tolerant against rust, rust, rust, fun, so I can plant this out now, apparently, don't forget that I am in South London so everything's a bit warmer here all the time, and chard, I want to plant out some beetroot as well, so we're going to plant those, get those in the ground, so at least I've got some stuff in the ground growing, and that is la plan today, so we'll see how well it goes really, that's what it's all about, it's always an experiment. Right, pond is looking alright today, they seem to have stayed in now, so maybe it was just particularly windy or something, I don't know, it seems to have settled down, I can see the bottom of the pond again, which I assume is good news, and it's getting lots of sun, so that's excellent, how are these doing, are any of my seeds growing, can you see any, I can't see bloody any, how about over here, oh what's that, oh hello, nope, that's a bit of a tree that's fallen ******* out, oh my god, what is this, oh my god, something's growing, something is growing there, something's growing here, oh good lord, I can't believe it, oh here, oh my, oh no that's another seed, oh for fucks sakes, oh my god, I can see life, oh my god, holy hell, they're actually growing guys, I can't believe it, something's growing, what the hell is that, oh it's another one of those plant things, god's sakes, these things scare the crap out of me, I always think they're caterpillars, bagger off, oh my god, it's ******* growing, I can't believe it, I can't believe it's actually growing, what about these, oh there's something there, that might be it, that might be something, I don't know where I scared them to be honest, well I'll be, what about the carrots and spinach, any sign of life yet, no, how are the peas doing, I put the peas in, oh my god, oh holy hell, look at these, oh I told you they would do well, I told you, I knew it, I bloody knew it, look at these, god they're sturdy, they're a darker green than the other ones, these are like yellowy, this is amazing, what about this side, oh bloody fox, bloody fox, what's he eating that for, bloody hell is he eating that for, why's he done that, oh god, why's he done that, oh he's pooed, oh my god, he's eating that and then he's pooed, bloody fox, like he ain't got enough room to bloody poo in the plot, he has to poo right in my thing, oh bloody fox, oh god, he can't be that stupid can he, oh for god sakes, fox, oh god, oh my god, bumblebees landed in my pond and it's died, look at that, oh for god sakes, I built the pond to be a wildlife haven and wildlife are just throwing themselves in and drowning, they're drowning themselves, oh god, what do you do that for, I can't believe it but I can see grass growing just there, I don't know if it's going to catch on camera but there's definitely some grass growing, there's some little green shoots in here, oh and over there, look, I don't know if it's going to catch on camera but it's definitely growing, my new grass would be quite easy to grow because it's everywhere isn't it, it's everywhere grass, like it's literally everywhere, god my hay fever is just awful, why are these things growing, why are these things growing, what the **** is going on, how is this growing, what on earth, I've literally just whacked it in the ground guys, I've literally whacked it in the ground, it's growing, what, why is this growing, ******* growing, what, what, oh my god, is it taking root, I can't believe it, oh ******* spider, oh shit, I can't believe it, it's growing, it's alive, what, I just whacked a stick in the ground and it started growing, I knew I was good at this, I knew this was my calling, I can't believe that, I've got to get some pictures on my phone to show my kids, that's so exciting, imagine if that all grows with leaves, oh my god, that is amazing, what I've done is I've sort of broken up the soil, I haven't got any compost for this bed and obviously there's no shops open to get any and I haven't made my own yet, I've only just started the bleeding thing, so I'm just going to put it straight into the soil and I've taken out as many weeds as I can but I do have an advantage of sweetcorn because I do know what the seedlings look like, so hopefully I will know what a weed is and what, oh god, look at that worm, ******* hell, all right mate, you stay over there, right, so I'm gonna bung them in, oh god, there's hundreds of them, I'll just put a few in, see if the fox digs them up, I'm having a bloody field day with this bed, right, okay, oh shit, dropped one, right, I'm gonna put, wait, just cover these up a little bit, oh bugger, where's the thing, oh god, oh where was it, ****, there, and right there I think, okay, and then in this one here we'll put the beetroot in the chard, this has got compost in so it'll probably work, yeah, you laugh mate, you laugh, right, what should I do, like that on that side, that on that side, or should I do rows, I don't know, let's do that on that side, that on that side, that's different isn't it, right, mix it up a bit, make it exciting, what I'll do is I'll move that side like that, oh look, there's a seed there, dagger off, I'm guessing I scatter it thinly, right, there we go, what's in there, whack a couple more in, yeah, right, that's that one done, I'll do the same for this one, I think I'll do these more in sort of rows, it's going to be a really lovely week this week so if you can get to your allotment plot, I'd really suggest you go because it really just massively helps, it helps your mental health, it helps your physical health, it just helps everything to be honest, I haven't got the kids here today obviously, it's really early in the morning, I just needed a little bit of headspace to be honest because, and we're all cooped up in kind of like, oh god sakes, he's got to get involved hasn't he, but I am going to do an easter egg hunt here at the plot with them soon this week so that would be good, that'd be fun, right, hope you're doing well guys,
