Hey guys, it's Harley.
And today we're going to be moving
my Monster Delicioso water propagation cuttings into soil.
Their root systems are very substantial.
So I do think it's time to get them potted up
into their permanent homes.
I've had these ladies in water
for about two to two and a half months-ish.
I can't quite remember the exact date.
Let's go ahead and get them potted up
and let's just get into it.
I will also go ahead and show you
how I take cuttings off of my mother plant.
Okay, with all my glutes.
I found my gardening gloves.
So I no longer need to use Ryan's army gloves.
So I'm going to go ahead and fill in the bottom of this pot
with some soil.
Actually pull out my little cuttings.
Oh shoot, they're like not gonna come out of the container.
Look at those roots.
Wow, you guys, these look so good.
I'm gonna have to cut this leaf off.
So a few of these cuttings are from my main plant,
but then a few of them I got for free
from someone I went to high school with
because her cat kept peeing in the soil
and the plant was dying.
So I inherited it from her
and I just cut it up and water propagated it
because the vine it was on,
they were all on one vine
and it was very, very flimsy and not healthy looking at all.
So I just thought this was going to be the safest route,
but it looks like this leaf just didn't fare too well.
I have to be honest,
I put the ones from that vine in water
and I had to change the water so frequently
because I think it was sucking all of the cat urine
out of the plant.
And seriously, it smelled so badly of cat pee for so long,
but finally it went away.
Long story short, I'm gonna cut this guy off
because he just doesn't look very happy.
But anyway, I filled up this with about this much soil.
I'm just gonna arrange them in here to my liking.
I think that that's fine, right?
And fill it up, it's easy as that.
Monstera are so easy to propagate.
So if you guys have a Monstera plant,
I would say go ahead and give it a go.
It's really, really fun.
And I feel like you've learned a lot
from watching the root systems for me anyway.
I don't know.
And by learn a lot, I don't mean like sciencey stuff.
I just mean like, I don't know.
Obviously you're not learning like facts or whatever,
but kind of shows you the roots and their tendencies.
You get to know them a little better.
And it shows you that plants like a lot of water.
Okay, you guys, this is so easy.
Hat to site, as we always do.
Wow, I love it.
We have some babies that were grown
from seed of Monstera plants.
So we have them on the website.
I'll have the link down below.
If you wanna pick some up for yourself,
I think we have about 15 in stock right now.
I could be wrong.
We could have more, we could have less, but.
Hey, oh, I love them.
Oh my goodness.
Look how cute.
I'm really, really happy about this.
I'll keep this guy pretty well watered for the time being.
Let's go ahead and take some more cuttings
to put back into my water propagation jar.
Let's go.
There is my Monstera plant
that we're going to take a cutting off of.
Look at that new leaf that's coming in.
That's gonna be a big one.
But yeah, this is my plant.
It was teeny when I got it.
Now it's getting huge.
So basically what you wanna look for
when you're taking cuttings is a node.
So right there, see it?
There's the node.
So I'm actually going to take my cutting from the back
because there's less light back here
and I want to have as many of the front pieces
as possible stay there.
So yeah, I'm gonna cut just below that right here,
which is some regular scissors.
But yeah, there's the cutting.
There's the node.
There are three leaves on here.
This one's really cute and split partially.
I got my cuttings.
I just took two for now.
I might take some more down the road,
but maybe I'll put some Monstera,
some variegated Monstera
or some Monstera adansonii in here.
As well, I have found,
I do usually try to keep various plants together
because different root systems give off like hormones
that help promote root growth in the other plants.
So mixing plants in water,
I'm pretty sure there's like a science thing behind it.
But just in my own experience,
I found that if you mix multiple plants together
while water propagating, they do propagate better.
Let me know if you have any experience with that.
But I just filled up my container.
Move these gloves.
I filled up my container with about a third of water.
I just use tap water and I use pretty cold water.
And in my experience,
that helps keep rot down to a minimum.
And it also prevents like bacteria, mold,
I don't know, whatever.
Just cold water seems to do the trick
and Monstera cuttings don't seem to mind tap water.
So that's what I got.
And I'm just gonna pop them in there.
It's as easy as that.
Make sure the bottom,
the node you cut is submerged in the water.
It's really important.
You wanna give them a little bit more light
than you normally would.
So I'm going to keep mine on a south window,
probably like four feet back.
But once I move it to soil,
then I'll move it a little bit back as well.
Let me know what you thought of this video.
And thank you so much for watching.
I will see you in my next one.
Bye.
