Welcome to Food Paradise. And I'm Cece Lee. And I'm William Lee. So Cece, is Kung Pao
Chicken an Americanized Chinese dish or a traditional Chinese dish? That's a really
good question, because a lot of people don't know and they kept on asking this question.
Kung Pao Chicken is a traditional Chinese dish and it's coming from the Sichuan province.
It's named after Ding Bao Zhen. He's a Qing Dynasty official. He basically discovered
a chicken dish and then made it Kung Pao Chicken. So it already has a few hundred years of history.
Yup. And it's known for its numbing spiciness I heard. That's right. So today we're going
to teach you how to make this numbing spicy Kung Pao Chicken right at home. So what are
the ingredients we need? There you go. Alright, so here are the ingredients for Kung Pao Chicken.
Eight ounces of chicken breast. Four tablespoons of oil. Three pieces of red dried chili. Half
of a teaspoon of Sichuan peppercorn. Six slices of ginger. Three cloves of garlic. Three stalks
of chopped scallion. A quarter of a cup of peanut. And for the sauce, we'll need one
tablespoon of light soy sauce. Half of a tablespoon of dark soy sauce. Half of a teaspoon of corn
starch mixed with one tablespoon of water. One tablespoon of oil. One teaspoon of hot
sesame oil. And for the marination, a pinch of salt, a pinch of pepper, a pinch of sugar.
Half of an egg white. Half of a teaspoon of corn starch mixed with one tablespoon of water.
Two tablespoons of oil. First, to marinate the chicken in a bowl, add a pinch of salt,
a pinch of pepper, a pinch of sugar, half of an egg white, half of a teaspoon of corn starch mixed
with one tablespoon of water. The egg white and the corn starch water will soften the chicken
and make it more tender. Then combine eight ounces of chicken cubes into the mixture with
a fork or chopsticks for about one minute. Then add two tablespoons of oil in the bowl and marinate
for about 10 to 30 minutes. To make the sauce, in a small bowl, add one tablespoon of light soy
sauce, half of a tablespoon of dark soy sauce, half of a teaspoon of corn starch mixed with one
tablespoon of water. The corn starch is going to thickening the sauce. Then add one tablespoon of
oil. The oil is going to make the dish look more vibrant and glossy. Add one teaspoon of hot sesame
oil and mix well. In a hot pan, add two tablespoons of oil. Now add eight ounces of marinated chicken
cubes and stir until medium well. Add two tablespoons of oil, three pieces of red dried chili,
half of a teaspoon of Sichuan peppercorn, and wait until the spicy aroma comes out.
Now add the cooked chicken cubes back to the pan and six slices of ginger,
three cloves of chopped garlic, three stalks of chopped scallion, and wait until the aroma comes
out. Pour in the sauce and stir well. Then we're just going to add a quarter of a cup of peanut.
Last but not least, here's a fun fact for everyone. Peanut is rich in protein, vitamin E,
and antioxidant. And according to many studies, they are good for your heart.
For me, actually, it could be a little bit more spicy. Whoa, you can take more heat. Yeah,
quite a lot of spiciness. That's pretty good. Of course, eat more. It's all yours. Very good.
