I'm not gonna lie, that kinda hurt.
What's up guys, the 2017-2018 NBA season is at it's midway point.
And if you guys have been following the NBA, there has been a ton of highlights this year.
Not just from elite superstars, but from all across the board.
I'm here with Hoop and Life, Nellie Nell Chan, Kevin La, and you already know what we have to do.
NBA Signature Moves, Mid-Season Edition.
Ayyyyy!
Ayyy, it's lit!
First play up, I'm not saying this man is even gonna win Rookie of the Year.
But he is probably the most hyped rookie.
Who am I talking about guys?
Lonzo Ball.
Lonzo Ball?
How do you guys grade Lonzo's performance this year?
Probably like a D+.
B-.
I was gonna give him a B-.
His ability to snap the ball and make full-court passes at ease is what makes him so good.
He's literally a miniature Kevin Love in the full-court pass.
Would you say he's a miniature Kevin Love, but with like the body of Michael Carter Williams?
Exactly.
100%.
What's the first move that we're seeing from Lonzo Ball?
Alright, so this play right here, Lonzo Ball catches a missed shot off a LeBron shot.
He gets the rebound and he full-court outlets to Brandon Ingram leaking out.
And you know, Brandon Ingram finished the play easily.
Lonzo Ball full-court pass.
You know, we're talking about Lonzo's crazy passes this season.
But one person who has low-key been setting it on fire is Nikola Jokic.
The Joker.
Jokic is one of the best-passing big men in NBA history.
I would have to agree with you.
Top five for sure.
Top five.
But Jokic is flashy.
Mm-hmm.
Yo, you guys, we might have to just do a compilation.
It might look like Harlem Globetrotters.
If you're Jokic, I'm Jokic, and you're Jokic.
They might just be like...
The crazy thing to me about Jokic is they let him set up like a point guard.
Where they'll let him face up at the three, and then boom, okay.
I'm the Joker, Nikola Jokic.
You know who's surprising?
Lance the Dan Stevenson.
Which is Nellie Nell's spirit animal.
What about Lance's passes, man?
Flashy.
Streetball.
He's a streetballer, man.
It's fun to watch.
Have you seen Mario Hezonia's?
He tried to do that.
Oh, man!
All right, that's a...
Hezonia, four on one.
Between the legs.
When we say streetball players, we're talking about players that look like they grew up playing.
Like, on the street.
Yeah.
Like, all their moves and everything, you can just see it.
It's real choppy.
You know what?
It's almost like Lance, he can't not do it.
Yeah.
It's in his nature.
Yeah.
You tell Lance, don't do it, don't do it, don't do it.
And he does it anyway.
He's so tough.
Frank Nielakina is D-ing up on Lance Stevenson.
Just can't feel the pass.
He loves the fans here.
They love him.
Stevenson with a...
The fans here, they love him.
Stevenson with a left hand!
He puts on a...
Yo, you guys.
The next one, we are getting into the Instagram NBA meme section.
Yo, so what is this move, guys?
He went here, here, boom, boom, boom, right here.
But Marc Gasol was off-balance,
because Curry planned it so hard, making it look like he was gonna drive.
Marc Gasol, he can't go this way and that way at the same time,
so he's kind of like, oh!
He was stuck right here, trying to go this way.
I will say that Marc Gasol is known for moving his feet in funny ways, though.
He does.
He moves his feet.
He goes like this, you know?
He does the shuffle, the karaoke.
Alright, so the funny thing about the move or after the shot is that
you know, after Marc Gasol got shook and he froze,
his teammate had to recover and contest the shot for him.
But you know, it doesn't matter.
Steph Curry still made it.
It's one-two combination.
Two ball handlers, two attackers.
Oh, it's 10-3.
There it is!
While we're on the discussion of memeable moves,
David West is forever a meme.
He literally sprained David Wett's ankles.
David Wett tweaked his ankle and he's like, ah!
CP made about, what, seven moves?
Seven moves, yeah.
Hey, what was the end result?
David West?
Broken ankle.
And he made the play.
Alright, let's get right into it.
Julius Randle got done in a lot this year.
Julius Randle, high-effort player.
What happens to high-effort players?
They react to every single move.
They get crossed.
He took it simple.
He did a cross, drop cross, between the leg, cross, and just layup.
All you guys who've seen James Harden play,
all he does is the same set of moves,
but he does it to rocket a sweep or get you shifted.
But Julius Randle, I guess he's never seen James Harden play.
He's reacting to every single move.
I don't know why.
I feel like Julius was trying to earn his starting spot.
Harden on Julius Randle, or should we call him Foo-lius Handle?
Foo-foo Handle.
Alright, let's get right into it.
Can I start?
Alright, you guys.
The next move that I think is super noteworthy,
a player who's been just destroying the league this year,
is Kyrie Irving.
Kyrie.
What happened with Dennis Smith Jr.,
who's also a very nice rookie,
but he got absolutely schooled by Kyrie.
How it all happened, Kyrie was bringing the ball up, right?
So he threw the ball to his teammate,
he pretended to cut hard,
and then he gave him one jab, took one dribble,
pretended he was gonna do his, you know, patent pull-up.
Dennis Smith Jr. flew over,
and then he, you know, went over and just...
Usually, Kyrie and Tatum.
But this man's advanced metrics, his analytics are crazy.
That's what I heard, right?
His true shooting percentage, his three-point percentage,
just his pure efficiency as a player.
At one point, he was leading the league in three-point percentage.
He's probably the most efficient rookie.
We're talking about none other than...
Jason Tatum.
And one thing with Jason Tatum,
the way he's playing, when you watch him,
he doesn't look like a rookie.
He looks like he's very mature.
His game is very mature and developed.
Would you guys agree with me?
When he busted this out, everyone was like,
man, has he been training with Kyrie after practice?
It was shifty, bro.
He went to take lessons from Kyrie, man.
He did a nasty euro step,
between the leg, dribble, and then euro step.
The thing, he's shifting left and right so much.
You just don't know where he's gonna go.
It was really explosive, too.
Like, it wasn't like slow or anything.
It was like, boom, and then boom.
And everyone's tapping so fast.
All right, yo, let's watch it.
Tatum, in the paint for two.
The next one, this one's for you, bro.
Oh, man.
Hey, man, this one's...
We all gotta try this one.
They call me the blender, man.
I gotta say, this is my personal favorite move of the season.
And I don't know if I'll see another move
that I like more than this one in the second half.
But it's really underrated.
Mostly because it's by a player that you've probably never heard of.
I actually, I don't know if I had actually heard of Gary Harris
prior to this move, I'm not gonna lie.
You guys do not know how hard this move was.
First off, he came off the screen,
he splits the Brook Lopez screen,
and then he drives in, does the 360,
and he doesn't do any normal layup.
He does a reverse layup with his back kind of turn,
where he just flicks it backwards.
That is difficult.
All right, man, we gotta keep it moving, though.
What else?
Personally, this is my favorite rookie this year.
Donovan Mitchell.
Is he Dwayne Wade?
No, he's Russell Westbrook with the jump shot.
Donovan Mitchell is like pure power.
All right, man.
No, there's only one man.
See, I can miss perfectly for you.
Is it noteworthy that this highlight was also on the Lakers?
Catch and shoot three, no.
Rebound, oh!
Another nasty dunk that Donovan Mitchell was,
you know, he was on the high post.
He was gonna pretend to come up to get the ball,
but he backdoored, and he threw a lob,
and he just two-hand monster yammed it.
It was disgusting, man.
I gotta give this up, because this is actually
Dwight Howard crossing over somebody
and then dunking on Ibaka.
It's my second favorite move.
Did you guys think that Dwight was gonna do this?
I don't know.
Do you feel like this year is Dwight's resurgence year?
Oh, for sure.
He's having, like, the best year since,
in the last, like, five, six years.
No, this is, he's playing, like,
Orlando Magic Dwight Howard.
People actually liked him.
So here we go, Dwight crossing somebody over.
Stiff-ass crossover, but it still looks smooth.
And then, man, just dunked.
All right, you get dunked on.
Just dunked all over Ibaka, man.
Oh!
Back again, crossover.
We gotta shout out your boy, Joel Embiid.
Across the process.
A.k.a. the funniest man in the NBA, probably.
Yeah, troll guy.
Yo, you know what I notice?
Every time he gets in a beat with another player,
like, he goes...
Yeah, he does, he does.
And he'll raise the roof after.
So Joel Embiid, he's just a natural talent.
Huge, 7'2".
So if he can stay healthy,
this guy's gonna be a monster.
Show the footwork, man.
Show the footwork, show the footwork, man.
The last 12 points to retake the lead.
Embiid doing work.
I don't really know what he's talking about,
because, you know, I'm just saying,
you know, I'm from Africa.
I'm not scared of nothing.
This is actually one of my favorite moves,
and it's not just because I'm living
in New York City right now,
but I do have a soft spot for the Knicks.
Tim Hardaway Jr.,
would you say that when he was healthy,
he was kind of, he was doing good?
He's good.
He could be a really good starter.
But he caught a crazy buzzer beater
because it was an alley-oop jumper.
What's an alley-oop jumper?
I'll show you guys.
In New York,
when anytime the Knicks do something good,
they yell out,
Knicks tape instead of Knicks tape.
The Knicks tape
is a mixed tape of personalities
all wearing the Knicks jersey.
A lot of people think
the next most dominant player
in the league after LeBron
is Giannis Antetokounmpo.
If he develops a consistent jump shot,
no one can guard him.
He'll be unstoppable.
That's what they said about LeBron, right?
And then LeBron kind of developed one,
and he's pretty unstoppable.
Giannis,
he does one-two,
you're essentially in a three-point line dunk.
This move was so amazing
because LeBron
pretty much throws it off Giannis' back,
which is a streetball move.
That's trolling, man.
You don't really see it in the NBA too often.
And it was on Giannis
to hit a late three.
They ended up losing the game anyway.
Technically, he still gave his team a chance,
so that was an impressive play by LeBron.
Hey, let's do it.
Let's do it.
I'm not going to lie,
that kind of hurt.
You can hear the smack on my back.
We got to do a little bit of NBA talk
in this Signature Moves series.
LeBron being still dominant at 33 years old,
is he as good as he's ever been?
Efficiency-wise and numbers-wise, yes.
I think he's playing the best he can play right now.
CP3, are you guys surprised
how well he's fitting with the Rockets?
Or...
No, I'm not surprised
because he's kind of like the Steve Nash
to, you know, D'Antoni's Phoenix line.
I'm actually pretty surprised.
I thought James Hart and Chris Bauer
were going to have a hard time playing together
because they're so ball-dominant.
And I thought OKC was going to play
a lot better than they are,
but it was actually the opposite.
Actually, if you look at the statistics,
they don't play together that much.
Nah, nah.
Only to start the game.
DeMar DeRozan is not just playing like an all-star,
but a superstar.
Agree or disagree?
Agree.
We'll see when the playoff comes around.
I'm definitely not surprised.
Last year, he had a lot of crazy games.
He was scoring a lot.
This year, I think they're kind of forgetting about
DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry.
Is DeMar DeRozan the closest thing
to Kobe in the NBA right now?
Like the way he plays?
Footwork-wise...
Footwork, mid-range game.
Offensively, I think.
Yeah, true.
Oladipo became unleashed upon his return to Indiana.
Do you think Russ was holding him back,
or do you think Oladipo had another gear
that he just wasn't stepping into?
A little bit of both.
So personally, I think 80% or more NBA players
who are given a green light
can go off just like Victor Oladipo has.
I felt like he had the green light in Orlando,
but he was still young and wasn't developed yet.
But now he's, like, grown.
OKC has not figured it out.
Too much iso-ball between all of them.
There's only one basketball.
Ben Simmons is looking like Baby LeBron.
Baby LeBron, Magic Johnson.
A little bit, yeah.
Who do you guys got rookie of the year,
him or Donovan Mitchell?
I'm gonna have to say Ben Simmons.
I think Donovan Mitchell has a strong chance.
KD is finally realizing his long,
dormant defensive potential,
second in the league in blocks.
I like it, man.
Yeah, I mean, he wants to prove a point
where he wants to lead the league in blocks.
Darantula.
Do you think he truly is only second to LeBron?
I would like to say 1A, 1B.
They're both number one.
Yeah, 1A, 1B.
Two different players.
You can't really compare who's better
because they have different skills.
This draft class,
this new crop of young players
just looks incredible.
True, agree.
Lots of talented players,
lots of athleticism.
They keep working hard.
It'll be fun to watch.
Give me one thing you guys are excited for
for the second half of the season.
Who's gonna be thrown?
Don't say Warriors.
I'm just waiting for the playoffs to happen.
