Everybody Instagrams when they're at festivals,
but how do they usually pose?
Show us.
Nice.
What's going on, everybody?
So I've never been to a music festival ever in my life.
I've never been to Coachella or EDC.
I have a lot of friends that do go,
and those friends who do go,
they spend a lot of time thinking about their outfits
and what they're gonna wear to the event.
I've done a lot of makeover videos in the past,
just like these,
but this one's a little bit special
because we're gonna be doing a music festival makeover.
Right now, I'm here with music festival expert, Jen Chen.
What's up, guys?
You are gonna be taking us through some outfits
to wear to Coachella, especially for guys,
and we're gonna be talking about music festivals in general.
Right, so I'm gonna show you guys three outfits
that you can wear to your next music festival.
All right, Jen, are you ready to do this?
Hell yeah, let's go.
So this is our first outfit.
We're gonna start out with a boho chic look.
This is your typical Coachella look.
Kinda wanna look like a flower child,
but it's heavily inspired by people like Johnny Depp
and spiced up a little with a future hat as well.
What type of person wears this outfit usually?
Right, so this is your typical Coachella goer.
This is a person that just wants to lay out in the sun
and relax a bit.
Okay.
Also kinda that on vacation,
don't really care about anything type look.
I would absolutely say
that this is the type of celebrity look that you would see.
I'm not in the mix, going crazy, sweating,
and like all that stuff.
I'm just trying to like-
This is almost like the too cool for school look.
Color-wise, it happened to match the Yeezys very well.
That's cool.
This outfit is also really good for desert style,
like Coachella specifically.
It's neutral colors, it's light,
so it's not something that's gonna, you know,
make you fry under the sun.
Yeah, front row at the main stage.
I'm here for the music.
This is lit.
Oh.
Yeah.
Why do you think festivals are so popular right now?
Especially so many Asians go to festivals.
Generation is very defined
by the things that we share online, right?
And festivals are just the epitome
of things that are shareable.
You got good food, good artists, famous people everywhere,
all these art installations.
I think festivals are definitely the type of escape
that a lot of people our generation look for.
You study so hard your entire semester,
and then you just go for a whole weekend
of no worries whatsoever, and you just go all out.
And you just fry your brain.
Exactly.
The Asians typically go for that street style,
which is why we're gonna show another outfit
that might be a little more catered to Asian taste.
Okay.
This second outfit is the hipster
It's heavily inspired by people
like Tyler, the Creator, and Gold Link.
All right, Jen.
This outfit is definitely a little bit more turned up.
Explain to me what's going on here.
So this is the outfit
that you wanna flex all over Instagram with.
Okay.
You wanna show off your bling.
You also wanna show off
that you really don't care what people think.
Okay.
And I feel like it's also to show
that I got like a style of my own,
instead of just buying into the mainstream.
This is kind of like one of those hipster outfits
that's kind of ironic
with the, what, three-quarter length Adidas pants.
Since they're gonna ask,
what type of person you are,
what's your background,
what's the story behind this outfit?
If you're an artist.
I'm gonna ask you for your SoundCloud.
Oh, the SoundCloud outfit.
You're like a break dancer a little bit.
And then you have like the,
what is this, like a kid's shirt?
Fresh out of the elementary school shirt.
It's like that fly preschooler look.
The fly preschooler look.
I like it.
It's like almost like Fresh Prince of Ballet,
that like old retro hip type look.
The fanny pack, that's ironic too,
but actually fanny pack's extremely useful.
Selfie's definitely something
that not everyone can pull off.
You'll definitely stand out in the crowd
and you'll definitely be getting some funny looks,
but I think you rock it pretty well.
If you're gonna be taking pictures,
you don't wanna be looking like a bum, you know?
You wanna show off your best outfits,
the flashiest outfits,
that you usually could not rock on a typical day.
Oh my God, are you,
are you a rapper?
Selfie!
Oh my gosh, are you a Chinese hipster?
Ni hao!
All right, so the two main festivals
that anybody ever talks about,
and these are things that people plan months ahead for,
is Coachella and EDC.
But what are the main differences
because they're pretty different, right?
When you're going to EDC,
we're talking neon colors,
we're talking not even really caring
for what's going on around you.
Yeah, it's really enjoying the beat,
enjoying all the lights, the stage,
all the craziness of the show.
And EDC is more like a light show with a DJ,
a lot of, you know, hard EDM.
But Coachella is more like an all-encompassing festival
because it doesn't just have music there.
When it comes to Coachella,
you got a lot of options.
There's a bunch of different stages,
there's always a different act going on,
and then there's also all these art installations.
You can chill under the shade,
under these giant animals,
and you can basically just, you know,
relax and enjoy life.
You don't have to be constantly going crazy at a rate.
Okay.
Like, I feel like there is downtime,
you're chilling,
you're camping out,
you're eating food.
It's kind of like,
almost like a whole, like,
chilling at the beach type thing.
Coachella is really an entire experience on its own.
It has a lot of elements that go into it.
It's all about, like,
trying new foods,
meeting new people,
all that good stuff.
You know what?
I guess you could say Coachella is more like Woodstock
back in the day,
and then EDC is more like a rave.
This final look is a pretty trendy one.
It's heavily influenced by artists like Chance the Rapper,
and it's styled around the overalls
for that 90s schoolboy look.
I actually like this outfit a lot.
I actually feel really comfortable.
I never, like, really wore overalls
after the age of, like, six.
So to put them back on
and to feel comfortable in them,
I'm like, that's kind of cool.
Yeah, I mean, overalls are kind of hard to rock,
so I give you props for rocking this outfit.
A lot of people have told me
that this hat looks like the three hat
that Chance the Rapper wears.
So every time I wear it kind of high
and I got overalls on,
I feel like I'm Chance right now.
Why do you think the schoolboy look
is so popular right now?
Past years, a lot of people have been trying
to look more mature with their fashion,
and this is kind of going, like,
rewinding back to the 90s
and back when, like, things were a little simpler.
It wasn't so sophisticated.
I think anyone wearing this kind of outfit,
you can't really take them seriously.
They're always kind of just, you know,
messing with you and just cracking jokes.
Okay, having a lot of fun.
I feel like dancing like this.
Where do you think festivals are headed in the future?
I'll tell you for sure that EDM raves
weren't a big thing just a couple years ago.
So I want to say when the next music trend comes up,
there might be a whole new,
different type of festival coming up as well.
All right, so we've been talking about
how everybody Instagrams when they're at festivals,
but how do they usually pose for guys and girls?
All right, number one,
it's always got to be with the Ferris wheel.
Like that, or like...
Yeah, yeah.
Show us.
Or something.
Nice.
Guys do a lot of the same thing,
just a little more masculine with the arms out again.
Okay, like this?
Just showing, like, look at everything around me.
Look at how great this experience is.
Yeah.
All right, everybody, thank you so much
for watching that video about the music festival
Those were just some of the cool outfits
that you could wear.
At the end of the day, though,
you probably just want to be comfortable, right?
It's always comfort over everything.
Any last tips for people
that are going to festivals this summer?
Take in the experience, be safe, and stay hydrated.
All right, everybody, in the comments below,
number one, let me know which outfit was your favorite
that I put on.
