Hi, we're Jordana and Grant from Shot in the Dark Travel.
Come join us on our amazing adventures around Southeast Asia.
In our last few days in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, we ate at the Revolving restaurant at the top of
the KL Tower and checked out the Skybox. We then had a quick look in the KL Tower Zoo
before going to another ridiculously good rooftop bar.
So we are at the top of the Kuala Lumpur Tower, so the KL Tower most people call it.
So we've come to the top, there is an observation deck and there is a, I think we've got a skybox,
which is like a glass box where you stand at the top and look out.
We're at the restaurant which is also at the top and it's a Revolving restaurant,
so you get to see a bit of the, well all of the city, 360 degree view, so it spins around
and yeah the view's really good. We've only just got here, we haven't got any food yet.
The building was completed in 1991 and I think they must have pre-installed some of the
decor because it looks like the decor has been here since before 1991, I'm not sure that's happened,
but the views are good at least.
Safety first.
Bit of rice and noodles over there and then just a few random
curry type things.
Look at this huge section.
So when we booked this there was an option for the, you could pay extra for a romantic
candlelit dinner for two and so you can see there's a couple over here right for that one
and I think looking at what they've got, I think we're glad we didn't in the end,
maybe not quite for us. I think the funniest bit is, other than the red velour tablecloth,
is the fact there's so much stuff on the table that all the plates are at funny angles because
they physically can't fit the plates on the table with all the decor. When I was looking online
it looked super nice, like it sounded super nice and then in reality it looks a bit tacky.
Yeah I think the views are good, it's fairly cheap but it is,
I think it's the worst decor I've seen in a long time. But yeah it is very old-fashioned.
True to form, I've tried to get just way too many different bits on this plate. I've got
like a bit of fish curry, a bit of beef, a bit of chicken. Yeah it's all just mushed into one.
I'd say my initial verdict is the food is quite poor, the decor is horrendous.
Literally I've never seen anything like this and then I'd say the only redeeming feature
is the views. You've got like the performance towers there, the views of the city are really
good. I like that it rotates, you can see everything. If it wasn't for the views it
would be 100% do not come here ever. I would say there's got to be better ways of experiencing the
views without paying for mediocre food. So we'll see what the skybox is like, I suspect
the advice is going to be go to the skybox and then eat somewhere else but we'll see.
I haven't had dessert yet, that could swing it, let's see how good dessert is.
There's a lot of dessert and there's ice cream so I do think it would probably be irrelevant
when you go to dessert. Yeah so okay I'll hold fire on final conclusions.
So I was just up at the dessert station, I just saw a bit of a scene kicking off. So some people
obviously don't understand that the whole point of a rotating restaurant is that it comes around
to you so you always get to see the best bits. So we've been waiting patiently for the Petronas
towers to come around to us and as soon as it gets here, this woman just stands right here.
Literally like arsing Giordano's face and then the couple next to us here were trying to do a video,
they've got other tripods set up and everything and then they're just standing in one in front
of them, one in front of us and it's like if you wait at your table it's going to come around. So
Giordano kicked off a bit and made him feel awkward. I was like oh excuse me, just because
it's rotating so it's not as if like if it wasn't rotating I wouldn't have been bothered.
It was like they were stood literally right here. They were literally like arsing me practically
in the curry like, I was like come on now, like this is not like restaurant etiquette now is it really.
Some people need to brush up on their rotating restaurant etiquette.
But yeah it is really funny like it's been good to people at the gym, I'll tell you that for now.
So we've just finished at lunch, it's about half two and there's about 50 people in this queue
when we got here. There's literally like two people plus me and Grant.
So I don't know if it's usually like this but how cool, hopefully we won't have to wait long.
So this is the skybox which Grant is absolutely terrified by so this is going to be very
interesting. As you can see you get one minute 40 to take pictures and videos in the box.
It's proper dead so I think it ranges if it's busy you get less time.
But as you can see like people take your pictures and videos and stuff so
we'll see what content we can get.
Ready?
Grant is hay of life right now. He literally wanted to chicken out of doing this, no one would let him.
Grant's pretending he's enjoying this but he's in actual hell right now.
How are you enjoying it Grant? Yeah good, really good. Don't look down, don't look down.
Why are you looking down you silly boy? There are two skyboxes with views of each side of the city
as well as a 360 degree viewing platform. We really enjoyed this and think it is an absolute
must do in Malaysia. The views were way better than at the top of the Petronas Towers.
So we're outside, well we're underneath the KL Tower, we've just finished in the glass box of
doom and underneath there's actually a mini aquarium and a mini zoo and we're not expecting
loads because it's like ridiculously cheap so I think they will be very small but we thought we
may as well check them out the right here so yeah we'll show you what it's like.
Grant's met two new friends. Yeah, happy life.
As if that needs to be a sign, surely never done that.
We personally wouldn't recommend the KL Tower Zoo, it seemed a bit sad and some
of the enclosures seemed a bit small so we weren't sure how ethical it was.
So the nachos are incredible, we've got some like popcorn chicken with like spice and stuff,
Wagyu burger sliders and then like some lobster bread thing, I think it's like prawn toast,
with like loads of wedgie. Grant's just had one of the Wagyu sliders and what did you say Grant?
I said easily best burger of my entire life. He says this all the time. This is the only time
I've ever meant it. He says that all the time but yeah, food's incredible here and the views
are even better. This was another amazing rooftop bar, we would definitely recommend this.
Kuala Lumpur never fails to amaze us with its brilliant rooftop bars and breathtaking skyline.
Kuala Lumpur will always be somewhere close to our hearts and is probably the best city
we've ever visited. We massively, massively recommend visiting this beautiful place.
