Welcome to a new video. We are here at the Japa Expo Europe 2023 in Vienna at the Maura Rides booth.
Can you introduce yourself and tell us who Maura Rides are?
Yes, of course. My name is Thorsten Schmidt. I am the Director of Business Development for Maura Rides.
For me, Maura Rides means sales, marketing, product development.
I am often the first contact person when it comes to layout.
And of course I always try to realize the best ideas with the customer, so that he really gets an exciting story.
Maura Rides is known for roller coasters. We have been in business for 30 years.
Starting with the wild mice and the spinning racers, you can of course also find two systems here on our Prater.
You definitely have to ride it. It's definitely exciting, such a wild mouse.
But of course we don't do that anymore. In the meantime, we have also developed further over the past 30 years.
And we have been known since 2017, probably, for the spike coasters.
As you can see here in the background, it is no longer quite the classic roller coaster that you know, which works by gravity.
Most roller coasters have a lift hill or a launch to get the energy.
And we solve it completely differently by simply having the drive on board.
And with that we are completely independent and can even accelerate in the curve.
The product of the Skyline Park or Mirabellania from the Desperate Race is known.
And of course we already have two systems running on ships.
On the Carnival Mardi Gras and on the Carnival Celebration.
One runs from Port Canaveral and Miami. If you are in the Caribbean, you definitely have to ride it.
But a spike coaster can do more than what you may know.
And we have a few models here where we can show you a few more examples of what you can do with the spike coaster before we get to something new.
The idea of the spike coaster is that you can accelerate interactively.
And of course the closest thing is a motorcycle on which you can sit down and accelerate yourself.
But for us the idea was that there are not only motorcycles.
But there is also the possibility to jet ski over the waves.
Or to sit in a vehicle as a racer and accelerate yourself like in Formula 1.
Or just over mountains, in mountain resorts or so, with a Ski-Doo.
Simply integrate the track beautifully in an area.
We have now presented three examples.
These are 3D prints.
In the meantime, it is relatively easy to realize.
And it always comes in handy to see what kind of possibilities there are.
And to thematize the whole thing a little more beautifully.
But our latest product is of course the Spike Fun.
You can see it here in the background.
But let's get away from the picture. I'll show you the big model.
This is now a model of the Spike Fun.
So of course not the big size, but small scale.
And we brought it to the fair today to show that we can also be interactive here.
Namely, by tilting the seat.
We had the last year already in London with the big model.
Where you could tilt yourself and even sit in it.
We did not bring it this year.
But to visualize it anyway.
With the train length it is here today in small.
The nice thing about it is that you can simply drive all the figures completely differently.
So the Camelback is of course completely different if you tilt in between.
Or you can ...
So this tilting, by the way, you can control it yourself.
Or you can also program it automatically beforehand.
Means, you may start from the station into the lounge.
And at that moment, surprise, all the seats tilt backwards.
And the passenger realizes, oh, I can do something there.
And he can then control the rest of the ride himself.
Here it is again the case, we have the drive in front on board.
Means we can do everything with it.
We do not need the typical lift hill or the lounge.
But all possible driving figures are possible.
Even overhead figures.
We have not yet built an exhibition with overhead figures.
But the car is now designed for it.
That means you could theoretically drive out of the station into the loop.
To put it simply.
I would take a little momentum.
So much energy is not in it now.
Purely computer.
But theoretically we could do that.
So we would need a small track or just a curve.
And then we could go into the loop.
We even have some layouts.
Layout examples to visualize to the customer how something like this is possible.
We also brought one.
I can show you that too.
Yes, with pleasure.
When we're done with the Spike Fun, or do you have anything else to say about it?
With the Spike Coaster, you know, with two seats behind each other.
And the Fun dominates with two seats next to each other as a train version.
Are there any differences or special features?
The background was simply the Spike Racer.
With its two people, we have reached maximum capacities of 500 people per hour.
Simply to ensure the interactivity.
So that you don't drive up to the next one in between.
Or get too close.
You don't want to drive up.
With the Spike Fun, we just want to achieve more capacity.
And for us it was important to bring interactivity.
And in addition to tilting, a system has been built in,
with which you can shoot lasers and collect points during the ride.
And it's a mixture of tilting and shooting,
so that you have the right position when shooting to hit the point.
And that plays together.
And when that comes together optimally, you get the most points.
So what do we see?
I see a lot.
I see crazy elements.
I see single cars and whole trains on the track.
Right, that's the special feature this year.
What we brought with us.
We can not only let the Spike Racer, the two-seater,
but also the whole train,
drive the two-seater train, the two pipes above each other.
This means that both types of vehicles can drive on the track at the same time.
This means that you can give the customer the option
to get in the queue for the Spike Racer,
or you want to sit in the train with the family
and take the other queue.
That's single rider 2.0.
We just wanted to give the customer the option
to drive the Racer and accelerate yourself.
Because that's just incredibly exciting.
Many who have tried it are simply thrilled by the acceleration.
Nevertheless, we wanted to give the option to create more capacity.
And now we can offer three different options with this layout.
With the pure Racer, we create a capacity of about 480 people per hour.
If we mix the whole thing with the Racer and the Spike Fun,
then we get to 850 people per hour.
And if we take the variant with the pure train,
then we have three trains in the layout
and we get to a capacity of 1,000 people per hour.
And regardless of the customer and the requirements he has,
we can then vary accordingly.
Here you already have examples with inversions.
Can you briefly explain why you could and could not place which inversion?
For us, we wanted to have an incredibly compact and intense driving experience
and still not get too high.
Because there are often height restrictions and dimension restrictions.
So I tried to have as compact an inversion as possible.
There are actually only three inversions in it.
A Sidewinder, a Corkscrew and a Halfcuban 8.
Camelback and a Flip.
These are the classic elements where I say, it's just fun.
This classic looping happens to me a little too little, I think.
And just to feel this dynamic, this change in acceleration.
And that's why I find it totally exciting with the layout.
And the second thing is, while driving in the layout,
the passengers also have the opportunity to integrate interactively.
We now call it co-action.
This means that not only the driver is interactive with the throttle and the boost button,
but also the passenger can collect points to increase the boost tank for the driver again.
This means that both have to work as a team.
And if the passenger, the rear driver, hits the gates correctly and hits them correctly,
he gets the extra boost for the driver.
That's cool and definitely next level.
That's the idea for the racer.
For the train, of course, it's difficult.
You can't say, you or you decide how fast the vehicle drives.
So there is a specified speed, which is of course beautiful and dynamic.
But all passengers have a different position.
And by tilting the seat, they can align the seat and shoot at the gates and collect different points.
And then you can say, the one who hits first or hits best,
in combination with tilting, gets the most points.
And so collect points.
And then you can either collect individual points or also collect points as a team in the train.
That's our idea, to make the whole thing a little more interactive and get this gaming character in there.
I think the younger generation sees it very differently.
They want to have more of this playfulness in a train and not just passively rush through it.
And we think or we hope that the repetition factor simply comes
because you say, I want to get better.
This time I haven't really caught the right tilting point yet.
I want to try it again and get even better.
Very cool. Exciting.
Do we have everything?
We have one more thing.
What I would also like to briefly mention.
We have now integrated a fully automatic video system.
By the way, this is for everyone who is currently in Skyline Park.
You can use it for free. The videos are downloadable for free.
We are currently in the test phase.
Let's go to the Skyline Park.
The system should be fully open next year.
But you can try it out now and download your video when you have driven.
That's cool and I can imagine that this is something that many people are looking forward to.
I hope so.
We just want to promote the roller coaster a bit.
The roller coaster is not just a roller coaster, it is simply more for us.
It is interactivity, gaming, video.
I want to share my intense experiences with my friends.
You can then download the video to your mobile phone and share it on social media channels.
If you have a video, send it to us or hashtag MarbleRides.
I think that was the best closing word.
See you in the next video.
