Hello to all swimmers!
Those who are subscribed to our Telegram channel
and sit in the chat and read the comments
have noticed that the most frequent question
in these comments is
what is the pulse?
22, 24, 26, 30
in general, those values that we write there
and today
I will answer this question
and also tell you how, in principle,
it is correct to count the pulse and what
is better to use for this.
Let's go!
By the way, to begin with, I will tell you
what is the pulse, or rather those values
that we write. In swimming
it is customary to count the pulse for 10 seconds.
Why exactly 10?
Because you need to count it quickly
and accurately, plus you need
to track recovery.
I'll talk about this a little later.
Well, here, as a result, why do we write
exactly such short values
for 10 seconds, and not for a minute at once?
Just
because it's more convenient,
more familiar, and it's enough
to remember it all once,
and you don't need to constantly
count and translate it all later.
That is, you remember that
pulse 20 is 120 beats,
pulse 24 is 144 beats,
and so on. Just remember
and you don't need to constantly
translate it all. And let's
deal with the next question.
What is the pulse for?
We count the pulse so that you
work out exactly what you need,
and not just swim chaotically
to some set of incomprehensible exercises,
accelerations, or something else.
That is, if we touch a certain
pulse zone, let's say
aerobics zone, we write there
pulse 24, that is, 144 beats.
If we
accelerate somewhere and write
certain pulses there too,
it is necessary to perform the task
within the limits of the pulse values
that we indicate for 10 seconds.
That is, in short,
we count the pulse so that the
workouts are as correct and
competent as possible, so that you
work out exactly what you need.
In addition, the pulse must be counted
in order to track your state in general,
that is, to count the recovery.
How to count the recovery, again,
we'll talk a little later.
So, let's analyze two basic ways
how to count the pulse.
The first option is that we count
on our own, that is, we either
put our hand on the ribs closer to the
chest, or we put it on the artery
and also count the number of
blows. And the second option is
to count with gadgets.
Alexey and I are big
fans of counting
the pulse on our own.
Then I will explain why. That is, we are such
conservative people in this regard,
and therefore let's consider
the pros and cons of these two
options. And let's start
with the option of how to count
the pulse on your own.
When you touch the edge,
after a certain segment, you immediately
put your hand on the pulse
and count in 10 seconds.
You need to start doing it as soon as possible.
That is, not so that you touched,
took off your glasses, corrected your hat,
10 seconds have passed, you have just started counting.
No, as soon as possible after touching
you need to start counting to get
the exact pulse value.
That is, these one-time measurements
are usually done if you swim
a large series,
let's say 20 to 100,
for example, and count the pulse after 4,
8, 12, 16 and at the end.
And here, between the segments,
when you have some kind of mode
to have time to count,
just once you counted
that you are going to the right pulse zone,
the one that you need, you counted,
you swim further. But at the end,
when you come to the task, you need to count
the pulse with which you finished the series
and count the recovery.
How is it done? For example,
you swim when the arrow
is at zero.
You counted 10 seconds,
that is, from 0 to 10.
This is the first pulse, your main one,
that is, on which you swam
your series. The second pulse
needs to be counted in 30 seconds
after you arrived. That is,
if you arrived at zero,
the next second time you count from 30.
Again, you counted it,
learned some value, the pulse should
go down well enough.
And the third time you count in a minute,
that is, again from zero.
You counted it,
and a good indicator
that you are recovering correctly,
that you have no problems with recovery.
If your pulse
drops below 120 beats,
that is, if we take it for 10 seconds,
that is, less than 20,
19, 20,
18, well, let it be some borderline values,
let's say 21.
If you swam something
quite powerful at a high pulse,
well, in principle, the third pulse
can be around 22.
These will be good
indicators that you are recovering
correctly, that you
sleep well, eat
properly. In general, you have no problems with recovery.
If you count
recovery, let's say you have
such a thing that the task was,
let's say, at a pulse of 26, you count
your pulse there 26, 24,
22, it means that you
are recovering badly and you need
to pay attention
to what you are doing outside the pool.
That is, most likely you slept badly somewhere,
ate incorrectly,
or rather ate insufficiently.
In general,
some kind of stress, I don't know there.
In general, figure out what's going on
in your period when you
are not in the pool. Most likely,
the reason is there.
And let's deal with gadgets.
What's wrong with them, in our opinion,
we constantly have
disputes in our telegram channel.
Many agree with us,
many do not agree with us
and begin to argue.
Let's deal with this now.
In fact, all gadgets
are reduced to two types.
The first is an optical sensor.
You know, it is usually
always in watches, bracelets,
or there are still
such separate sensors that
are attached to the rubber band from the glasses
and are read from the head
somewhere here in the temporal zone.
The essence does not change.
These are all optical sensors,
how they work. If you are interested,
you can read. We will not go into this.
And the second type of sensor is,
one might say, an impulse sensor
that is attached to the belt,
to the ribs, and it reads
not through this optical light sensor,
but, one might say,
it reads the impulses from the heart,
which pierce your chest
Let me start
with the chest sensor,
which reads the impulses.
This is the most accurate device
that measures the pulse
best.
That is, it does not matter
whether water got under it or not,
it catches the impulses of your heart,
that is, specific beats,
and from this it shows
the most correct values.
But the main disadvantage
is that it flies off
when you swim.
That is, it fits perfectly
under a wetsuit,
when you swim in open water,
when you swim a competition,
that is, you put it on,
press it with a wetsuit,
it does not go anywhere,
holds well, but if you are
a powerful enough swimmer,
and you, let's say,
can make a good exit,
push-off from the side,
turn, it constantly
flies off.
And many of our students
who used this sensor,
have the same problem.
When they push off,
it constantly flies off.
This, accordingly,
leads to constant errors.
And the second most common type
is optical.
What is the problem
with optical sensors?
The problem is that
they give errors,
when you are in a bad condition,
or you walk, run, sleep,
lie, that is, you are not in the water,
they are generally quite accurate.
But when you get into a pool,
water gets under them,
and they generally give
enough error.
In addition, through these sensors
it is impossible to calculate the recovery,
what I was talking about before.
When you need to know
how you recover,
all these sensors, devices,
they will not be able to show you
with a certain periodicity
what your pulse is shown.
Plus, many of these
watches, bracelets,
some other sensors,
they do not work immediately.
That is, yes, they count in the moment,
but you need to know the pulse
exactly at the moment
when you touched the side.
And while they have their own
sequence of algorithms,
when they will count,
inaccurate information is obtained.
Therefore, the whole problem
of these optical sensors,
watches, your Apple Watches,
Garmin and other Polars,
there are some more there,
the whole problem boils down
to two simple things.
To inaccuracy.
Why are you talking about recovery?
If they track you at the moment,
you just looked once every 30 seconds
and that's it.
You have a schedule for the entire training.
The only problem is
that it disappears.
Why can't some of them
show you clearly in a minute?
Apple Watches won't do that.
Moto, for example, Apple Watches
don't work like that.
When it arrives, it presses
and it only starts counting.
No.
They don't count at all.
Well, they still only update
this pulse from time to time.
Here you need to look,
but most likely during training
it won't work.
Even 5 seconds can be an indicator.
I don't know.
I have a big problem.
The whole trouble is that
they just lose the pulse.
And when you lose it,
after 30-40 seconds,
it is as if it arrived,
they got lost somewhere,
it got caught,
it is lost,
and they are confused.
Alexey corrected me now,
since he has already tested
all these different devices,
methods of counting the pulse.
It all comes down to the fact
that these sensors show
either with an error,
or if they, for example,
lost the pulse during the distance,
and they, accordingly,
do not continue to do it.
You need to come, click,
they start counting it somewhere.
In general,
again, I repeat,
it all leads to the fact that
there will be an error,
there will be some inaccuracy,
there will be some problems.
Yes, now in the comments
there will be those
who will not have such a problem.
I understand, all gadgets are different,
they have developed a lot now,
but the point does not change.
One way or another,
it still gives an error.
I checked it on my students,
they have super-ultra
Garmin,
they give an error.
Lyokha, what are they called there?
Garmin Phoenix 7 Pro
Again.
Garmin Phoenix 7 Pro
3G, 128TB
with Wi-Fi.
In general, there is such a name.
I think those who understand
all these Garmin
triathlon stories,
in general,
these watches give an error.
One way or another.
Therefore,
even despite the fact that
they are so cool,
sharpened for this triathlon sport,
even they give an error.
Therefore, Alexey still continues
to count on his own.
If you are interested,
let's even do it so that
everything is completely objective.
We will make a video
with a test of different gadgets.
There will be watches, bracelets,
Garmin, Apple Watch,
all these sensors.
In general, everything we can find,
we will tell,
show, test,
compare with
a self-calculated
and make some kind of conclusion.
Maybe I'm wrong now
and I'll change my mind.
Unlikely.
So let's move to the water
and see how to calculate
the pulse on your own.
Well, that's all.
Now you know how to calculate
the pulse with a stopwatch.
If it is in the pool,
if it is not,
you know how to calculate it with a watch.
If you see in our comments
in the Telegram channel
those who will ask
what is the pulse 22, 24, 26,
if you write in the comments
that you are interested in this topic,
we will shoot a review
and comparison
on different types of these gadgets.
That's all. Good luck to everyone.
Bye everyone.
