Halloween is here,
and this is the top five spooky sites at Rutgers.
Number five:
Voorhees Mall on the College Avenue campus
is a place that students pass every day on their way to class.
It is a pretty spot, but beyond the trees
and beautiful old buildings lies the reaper.
Students enter structures named after folks long departed.
The trees reach to the heavens.
The nearby clock is always ticking as we come closer and closer to our demise.
And no matter where you are at Voorhees Mall,
William the Silent is always watching.
Number four: The Rutgers Art Library.
Students use this space to work on assignments,
but if one should muster the courage to venture beyond the safety of the study hall,
they will meet spirits haunting the narrow, dimly lit halls.
Adorning these hallways, framed portraits hang.
Their unblinking eyes stare down passersby.
It is not recommended that you stay late at the Rutgers Art Library,
as the unsettling echoes of the past may awaken.
Number three:
The Dean’s Residence on Douglass campus.
This property is home to one of the Garden State’s
most notorious unsolved murder cases.
It was once the residence of Episcopalian priest Edward C. Hall,
who had an affair with choir member Eleanor Mills.
Both Edward and Eleanor were found dead
with their love letters scattered over their bodies.
Within the Dean's Residence, their spirits remain restless,
eternally entwined in an unsolved mystery
of tragic love and murder.
Number two: If you dare stray away from the
Black Trail at Rutgers Ecological Preserve on Livingston campus,
you will encounter the eerie remnants of a 1963 Chevy Wagon.
No one knows its origin, but it’s forever bound to the shadows of the woods.
At night, whispers abound of a shadowy figure in the driver’s seat.
Number one:
Passion Puddle on Douglass Campus
is a serene oasis visited by lovers every day.
“If you and your lover walk around the pond three times,
the two of you are bound to marry.”
But beyond the folklore lies something terrible —
malevolent geese that haunt the area.
If you approach the menacing geese, you will be chased and hissed at.
If you visit Passion Puddle, you best avoid these evil monsters.
These were the top five spooky sites at Rutgers.
