In the 5th and 6th grade of elementary school, it's time for children to learn specifically.
You have to prepare some grammar questions.
And as you know, if you look at the problems with children's grammar,
There are many cases where you can't speak English because you can't speak Korean.
There are many cases where you can't speak English because you don't know Korean.
Hello, I'm Kaesul from Daechi-dong.
I think you all know who I am today.
It's a channel that provides a lot of practical education information to parents.
I invited Joo Dan, who you are familiar with, to the Gyojipop Studio.
Yes, hello.
Please say hello briefly.
Nice to meet you, subscribers of Daechi-dong.
I usually have a lot of questions with my teacher.
Thank you so much for participating in the channel that I often look back on.
I'm going to talk a lot about what I'm curious about today.
So, why did we meet Joo Dan in the Gyojipop Studio?
As you can expect, he released a book this time.
So he released a book.
He released a book called Elementary School 5th and 6th Grade Study Standard.
What I liked about this channel was that I focused on math.
Because I teach math.
What I'm good at is math.
But if you look here, math, English, and Korean.
I think it was good that you explained it in a balanced and diverse way.
And coincidentally, what we're teaching is elementary school 5th and 6th grade.
That's why I was very interested.
First of all, elementary school 5th and 6th grade.
But some go down to 4th grade, some go down to 3rd grade.
Why did you think elementary school 5th and 6th grade was the standard of study?
First of all, it reflected a lot of experience.
I've been teaching for a long time, from elementary school to middle school.
As time goes by, children get frustrated the most.
And they get a chance.
And it's a time when they're psychologically vulnerable to various fluctuations.
There are a lot of problems with parents.
Depending on how you spend this 5th and 6th grade period,
I've seen a lot of changes since then.
So, as you said earlier,
Not only me, who is a math teacher,
With Mr. Kwon Tae-woong, who is an English teacher,
If you're a 5th and 6th grader, what do you have to prepare and how do you make your debut?
I'd like to give you some advice on whether you can spend your middle and high school years well and achieve your goals.
I took the 5th and 6th grades.
I'm going to give you a book that takes into account the whole thing.
So, in earnest,
The most common mistakes students make in elementary school 5th and 6th grade.
And what is the most important basic principle?
First of all, it's time for parents to be involved in their children's maps.
So, in the case of Korean,
I think there are times when children focus too much on reading.
I think Korean should read a lot of books.
Because I'm a math teacher,
I've been talking a lot about math.
I learned a lot while writing this book.
Mr. Kwon, who is an English expert, told me a lot of things.
I can relate to that a lot, so I'll tell you.
Reading alone will never improve your skills.
Especially in terms of grammar, it's a continuous issue.
But like we used to use Korean grammar,
Not only Korean grammar, but English grammar and math grammar are also very important.
We need to take care of those parts.
But it's never done by reading alone.
Why?
First of all, the basic language skills that our children should achieve in the end
The pinnacle is the SAT Korean test or internal grades.
It's a test.
That's right.
But in order to get good grades on the test,
I think it's a little difficult to be completed only by actual reading skills.
As you know, there must be a way to solve the problem.
In particular, non-literary fingerprints are becoming an issue not only in Korean,
but also in English and math.
In order to solve those problems well,
not only reading well and understanding well,
but also summarizing well, picking out good topics, and solving problems well.
We definitely need those abilities.
So I think it's time for these things to be prepared.
If you're a 5th or 6th grader.
Now we need to be prepared to switch to study mode.
So I'm not saying that we should solve Korean problems and go to Korean language school from now on.
In the books that the children were reading well,
they practice finding topics a little more,
or try to summarize a little more,
or take care of vocabulary a little more.
In this way, as you just said,
it's time to prepare to study Korean well after middle school.
It's very touching to think that way.
It was similar when I talked to an English expert before.
The English in the language school as a living English
and the English that gets 100 points on the English test
may be similar, but they may be different.
I guess those principles apply to Korean as well.
That's right.
I think it's the same in English as you just said.
So English is not my major,
but if you look at the stories I've heard a lot,
until the 5th or 6th grade of elementary school,
they just went straight to the English book 100 or 1,000.
There are English books in English libraries, right?
Yes, but in the 5th or 6th grade of elementary school,
it's time for children to learn specific vocabulary.
That's what you're saying.
We need to prepare some grammar questions.
And as you know,
if you look at the problems with children's grammar,
there are many cases where they can't speak Korean or English.
There are many cases where they can't speak English because they don't know Korean.
But they usually express it as abstract vocabulary.
You can't see abstract vocabulary,
but we need to know it.
They usually talk about difficult words in Chinese characters.
It's time to start learning those things in earnest.
It's the 5th or 6th grade of elementary school.
Because before that, it was a little difficult for children to understand the meaning of the language.
Yes, if it's about 5th or 6th grade, it's time to prepare for that.
But they're not ready yet.
There are too many of these kids.
So I think you can look at the wrong way of studying English from that perspective.
I've read all this book.
What's interesting about English is that
they actually do a lot of 200-300 memorization of English words.
Because English is a vocabulary,
I heard that they're actually doing a lot of that kind of training.
That's right. That's right. Especially, it's a huge thing in Daechi-dong.
But I don't think they recommend it.
What's the reason for that?
First of all, I think it's basically related to the mechanism that goes from short-term memory to long-term memory.
The way children memorize 100 or 200 words at the academy
is often just stopped in short-term memory.
Because, as you know,
you have to memorize it right before you go to the academy,
and if you fail, you have to barely pass it to go home.
Because of this structure,
it's just a memory that children memorize for a while and forget right away.
Then why do you have to study so hard?
This was the fundamental question.
In fact, if you teach English to children for a long time,
even if you say you studied like that,
there are children who keep memorizing words until they become seniors.
If you memorized 100 or 200 words, you should have finished memorizing all the words.
But the fact that it's an impossible reality means that it's definitely wrong from the beginning.
Then how do you memorize English words?
First of all, it depends on the influence of the child,
so even if it's one to three, a little more, five,
little by little every day.
And this is called cumulative repetition,
which is often used in math.
So if the children memorize it once, it doesn't end there,
but if they check it again a week later,
or if they do cumulative repetition regularly like this,
there will be a lot of words that will remain as long-term memories.
And what Mr. Kim always emphasized was
that when they memorize English words, they always try to remember the meaning of the Korean language together.
Because the children don't know abstract,
metaphors and symbols,
but they know the English word.
That's the problem.
So you always have to know the meaning of the Korean language together.
But I told you earlier that it's too much to take care of
when you're in elementary school,
and the children are too young to understand the meaning of the Korean language,
so I think you're in a context where you have to start now to be able to make a mid-level debut.
What I really agree with is that even in math,
there is a term called thinning out the skills.
Like that, even if you do a serious problem once,
you can't digest it.
Like that, you have to put in a steady routine
to practice thinking about a small number of problems,
and I think that two or three problems at a time
melt down and become skills,
and thin it out.
You're saying that it's right to approach English words that way.
That's right.
