Hey what's up everyone Kevin here. In this video I want to show you guys a new type of carving turn
that's really going to help to bring your snowboarding to the next level. And this type of
carve is called down unweighted and basically what that is is as you come around a carving turn
you're extending your legs to put more pressure on your edge which is going to give you a lot of
energy and aggression out of your carving turns. So this type of carve is really effective if you
want to get over to one side of the run really quick you can start pressing into that edge.
So when you first start practicing these down unweighted turns you don't have to be going really
fast or doing them really big. You can start on a mellow slope and so every time my board gets
onto edge and the turn's coming around I start to extend my legs and press into that edge
to create some extra pressure and you can actually feel your snowboard pushing back on you. So this
is a really easy way to start is this on some mellow terrain. You can also practice it just
going in one direction so on your heels you can practice it takes you like up the slope.
The down unweighted turn also comes into effect on your toes so if you want to get up a slope
it helps you to get across and then up onto something. So every time I extend into that toe
edge it's helping me to shoot across the slope. So a really effective way to go back and forth.
This is a good way to actually pick up speed as well. If you feel yourself slowing down you can
start to extend into each turn and you can feel the pressure that you build on your snowboard
starts to actually feed back into you and giving you more speed. So a good way to build up your
speed if you feel like you're slowing down. So I'm just like pumping and pushing into each turn.
So if I want to go quickly across on my toes I start pushing into that toe edge
and it really helps me to oh some ice. Be careful doing it on the ice. I don't want to get up into
the lap so I start pressuring into my toes helps me get up. So I think that the best place to
practice this type of carve is someplace that is wide and not that steep and also someplace that's
not too icy. If you got any ice on the run you may slide out when you press into the carve.
So someplace that's not too steep not icy and someplace with a lot of space as well.
If you're having any trouble with the down and weighted carves you can break it down.
So maybe just focus on the carving turns. So creating that edge angle so that you can
draw that line in the snow by flexing your ankles more. Also think about your body position over top
of your snowboard. So if you push into the carve and you feel yourself sliding out it may be because
you have a bad body position. So with your knees bent hips bent but back straight that gives you
that good body position so that your weight is centered over top of your board. So you're really
generating the energy into your edge and not out over the snow. So I hope this will help you guys
with your down and weighted carves. If you have any questions hit me up down in the comments.
