Rep. Stephanie McClintock, R-Vancouver, explains how her bill would address the many aging school facilities in Washington that do not have the funding for modernization and who have been unable to to pass a capital bond.

I'm state representative Stephanie mlin
talk from the 18th legislative district
today I want to tell you about House
Bill 2017 this legislation would provide
financial assistance to school districts
with old facilities and a history of
capital Bond failure it would create a
capital grant program for the planning
modernization and new construction
projects in school districts that have
at least one 10,1 students enrolled
during my time serving on the
Battleground School Board it was always
difficult to see that our facilities had
needs but I was unable to do anything to
help them we have many buildings that
are close to 50 years old in our
district that don't have the modern
learning tools students need at the same
time many facilities in our neighboring
school districts are much more
modernized we need to even the playing
field for our kids this program would
focus on facilities that are 50 years
old have not been modernized in the last
30 years and the projects must
comprehensively modernize or replace
these facilities this bill is an attempt
to write some wrongs when it comes to
equity in our school buildings our
district has attempted to pass bonds
several times only to repeatedly see
them fail additionally there are 10
other districts which fall into this
category that would benefit greatly if
this bill passed House Bill 2017
received a hearing in the capital budget
committee but as yet to be voted on I'm
state representative Stephanie mlto
thanks for listening it's an honor to
serve
you
