Hey Jim, I just read a very interesting life story of a drug trafficker.
What? What was the story, Joanne?
Look, have you heard about a famous chef called Jeff Henderson?
A chef? I thought you were saying something about a drug trafficker.
No Jim, the drug trafficker and the chef are one and the same person.
So, you mean to say that he turned to be a good guy?
Exactly Jim, when Jeff was a teenager, he used to make drugs and sell it.
When he was a teenager?
Yes, he used to earn thousands of dollars every week by selling drugs.
But then, how did he become a chef?
One day while he was arrested by the police and put in prison.
Did he serve a long term in the prison?
Yes, he had to spend 10 years behind the bars.
It was in prison that he learned how to cook.
That's great! From a drug seller to a chef in kitchen?
He was released from jail after 10 years and then he tried for a job at many restaurants.
What happened? Did he get a job?
No, most of the people turned him away because he was a criminal.
But after many days, he finally got a chance to work at a restaurant in Las Vegas.
Wow! And the rest?
Yes Jim, he was awarded the Best Chef of Las Vegas in 2001.
Good morning children.
Good morning Uncle.
Uncle Francis,
Joanne was telling me the story of a convict,
who turned a new leaf to become a famous chef.
Uncle, I was narrating the story of Jeff Henderson,
which I read from this book.
Good Joan, I'm impressed.
You have set the stage for narrating the story of Saint Paul.
Saint Paul?
Was he also a convict Uncle?
No, not exactly a convict.
He was a persecutor of the early Christians,
rather than a disciple of Jesus.
Huh? From prosecutor to a leader of the church?
That story would be amazing Uncle Francis.
Yes indeed.
I will tell you the story of conversion of Saul of Tarsus to Saint Paul.
Enlightened by the power of the Holy Spirit,
the disciples of Jesus got the courage to speak to the people about Jesus and the Kingdom of God.
Hey Saul, what is the scroll you're holding?
Augustus, I have got the permission from the high priest
to imprison the followers of Jesus,
whom we find our way to Damascus.
But what will we do with them?
We will kill them, or take them to Jerusalem.
They were approaching Damascus,
and suddenly a light flashed from the sky.
Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?
Huh? Who are you Lord?
I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.
Lord, what am I to do?
Now get up, and go to the city.
You will be told what you should do.
Hey Saul, whom are you talking to?
I, I did not see anybody.
I can hear only the voice.
Augustus, are you there?
I am not able to see anything.
Huh? Saul, have you turned blind?
I fear, I fear that I have lost my eyesight.
Please hold my hand and lead the way.
Come on Saul, let us move forward.
For three days he was blind, and he did not eat or drink.
Ananias was a disciple living in Damascus.
The Lord appeared to him in a vision and said,
Ananias, go to the house of Judas on Straight Street,
and ask for a man named Saul.
My Lord, did you say his name is Saul?
He is a persecutor of your church in Jerusalem.
He has come here with an approval to arrest anyone who believes in you.
Do not worry Ananias.
I have chosen him to proclaim my name to the Gentiles.
I will show him how much he should suffer for the sake of my name.
Lord, what should I tell Saul?
He has lost his eyesight.
I have shown him a vision, that you will restore his vision.
As per your command my Lord.
Hello Saul.
Is it, is it Ananias?
Is it?
Yes Saul.
Lord God has sent me to you.
You will see again, and will be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Immediately something like scale fell down from his eyes, and he could see.
Thank you Lord.
I can see now.
Get up and come Saul.
Let me baptize you.
Now you are filled with the Holy Spirit.
Eat some food and strengthen your body.
You have a great mission ahead.
Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus,
and then he went to the synagogue to speak about Jesus.
Brethren, I am here to speak about Jesus of Nazareth,
who died for our sins and has resurrected.
Hey, what has happened to Saul?
Has he turned mad?
Is he the same person who was killing the followers of Jesus?
Yes, he has come here with the approval from the high priests
to destroy the followers of Jesus in Damascus.
Listen to me brethren,
I have been a persecutor of the followers of Jesus,
but today I stand as a testimony that Jesus is the real Messiah.
More and more people listened to Saul and started joining the faith.
The Jews became really worried and made plans to kill him.
Look Nathaniel, things are going out of hand.
Saul has many followers now.
Before they grow in number, we need to finish him.
You are right C.F.S.
We should attack his house tonight and kill him.
Followers of Saul came to know about the plan,
and they put him in a basket and lowered him through a hole in the wall
and saved him from the Jews.
Saul joined the disciples of Jesus at Jerusalem,
but they were all afraid of him and did not allow him to join them.
Did you hear that Saul wants to join us?
Is it true that he has left his old ways?
John, please open the door and see who it is.
Barnabas, a disciple of Jesus, enters with Saul into the room.
Brothers, I have brought Saul with me.
He is a strong disciple of the Lord now.
Brethren, I have been a persecutor of the followers of the Lord.
Jesus appeared to me and changed me to bear witness to his kingdom.
Please allow me to join you.
Saul proclaimed the word of God fearlessly in Jerusalem.
When the Jews decided to kill him,
the believers took him to Caesarea and then to Tarsus.
My brothers and sisters,
I am proclaiming to you about the Messiah
who suffered and died on the cross for the salvation of our sins.
A Roman proconsul was listening to the words spoken by Saul
and was keenly listening.
But his attendant named Elimus tried to prevent him.
Master, you should not listen to the stories that man is speaking.
Saul was filled with the Holy Spirit,
and now he was called by the name Paul.
And he said to Elimus,
You are full of deceit and trickery.
Since you are standing in the way of the Lord,
you will turn blind.
Huh?
Someone please help me.
I am not able to see anything.
Proconsul really believed what had happened
and got amazed at the teaching of Paul.
After preaching in all the islands,
Paul and Barnabas returned to Antioch.
On a Sabbath day,
Paul was invited to speak to the people in a synagogue in Antioch.
Jews and Gentiles were gathered in the synagogue.
Fellow Israelites and Gentiles who worship the Lord,
what God has promised to our ancestors
have been fulfilled through Jesus.
God has raised him from the dead
so that he will never be subjected to decay.
What is Paul talking about?
Is he speaking against the scriptures?
He is playing all the tricks to win over the people.
So for anyone who believes in him,
his sins will be forgiven.
You cannot get this justification under the law of Moses.
Huh? Did you hear that?
He is despising even Moses.
The Lord has made us lights for the Gentiles,
for the salvation of the entire world.
When the Jews and the high-standing people realized
that the followers are multiplying for the faith preached by Paul,
they made a section of the mob to riot and stone Paul and Barnabas.
