琵琶協奏曲《Beyond the White Clouds》靈感來自王維的詩〈答裴迪憶終南山〉：「淼淼寒流廣，蒼蒼秋雨晦；君問終南山，心知白雲外」。
在一種層面上，這首作品只是為這首詩加上劇情並描繪了它的風景；在另一個層面上，它描繪了在無趣現實日常的白雲之外，一個神秘的烏托邦。獨奏者和樂團之間的競奏強調了這個矛盾。
　
Beyond The White Clouds is a pipa concerto inspired by the picturesque poem of Wang Wei:
The cold river spreads boundless away.
Autumn rains darken azure-deep skies.
You ask about Whole-South Mountain:
mind knows far beyond white clouds.

At one level the piece merely dramatizes the poem and depicts its scenery. At another level, it paints an enigmatic utopia beyond the white clouds of less tantalizing every day realities. The dramatic competition between the soloist and the orchestra emphasizes this paradox.
