Hey guys.
This is our first day in Lahore in Pakistan.
I have never had Pakistani food before, so I'm really excited to try it.
We came to Barkat Street, and then we're going to go to Kareem Block to try some amazing
street food.
We're meeting up with my friend Hassan, and he is going to show us all the best eats.
Let's go.
This is Hassan.
Hello.
And he is going to show us some really good food, so I'm excited.
I got the cheese paratha, and Amir got the aloo paratha, which is potato paratha.
Mine also comes with potato, but it's just called the cheese paratha.
I was so excited to try this when he was making it.
It looks so good, so I am patiently waiting, and I'm probably going to burn my mouth because
I'm going to eat it before it cools down.
That is for sure.
Come on, guys.
Where should we sit?
Let's sit on here.
Let's sit on this one.
Yeah, let's sit on this one.
Hassan, what is this green jelly?
This is green sauce, this mint, and chili, and garlic.
All right.
So this is the cheese one, and like I said, it has cheese and potato in it.
Oh my gosh.
It's so creamy inside.
The cheese is gooey, but it's not extremely chewy, and then the potato melts in your
mouth.
This is amazing.
If this is what Pakistani food is going to be like, I am already loving my trip here.
When it was time for us to pay, they didn't want to accept payment.
I feel they think that we are tourists and we are coming to their country, so they're
showing hospitality and not letting us pay.
It was meant to be 500, then he said, okay, I only need 300.
Oh, you just paid 300?
Yeah, but he wants to give it free, but yeah, he gave us a discount still.
I got sugarcane juice.
I've never seen it be made in person, so that was really cool.
You definitely can't do this at home.
You can't just stick it in your juicer at home.
It needs to be done on the street.
I didn't know if I would like it, because I've had a sugarcane mojito, and I wasn't
a fan, but oh, this juice is so good.
It almost tastes like a sweet, thick cucumber juice, and it was 100 rupees.
One lover, but Amir absolutely loves roti, and right here, they're making fresh roti.
It looks so good.
I don't know how this guy is not burning himself when he puts the roti on.
I can feel the heat coming from here, but oh, it looks delicious.
Wow, that is good.
We just ordered some beef pulao, which I have never had before, let alone pulao, so I'm
excited to try it.
We decided to sit inside.
We would sit outside, but it's a little bit noisy, so we're going to try this inside.
All right, so here goes my first bite.
It is still steaming, but it looks so good, and you can smell the meat.
Not that you can necessarily smell the meat, but you can smell the saltiness of it, and
you can just tell it's going to be super flavorful.
Wow.
I'm in love with pulao.
Oh, yeah?
You like it?
Beef pulao.
This is so good.
Yeah?
Yeah.
This meat's not, like, chewy.
It just kind of melts in your mouth.
This rice is so flavorful because the beef stock is in the rice.
10 out of 10.
This is so good.
Oh, there we go.
There we go.
The last time I had bone marrow, I was 7 or maybe 10.
I was, like, anywhere from 7 to 10.
I really liked it.
I don't know if I was just trying to be cool to show off for my grandparents, but I remember
that I really liked it, so we are going to see if I like it again.
All right.
Here we go.
Looks are deceiving.
It is really good.
I like it again.
With the bone marrow, you pretty much just get an intense flavor of the meat, but it's
so mushy and so soft, but not in a slimy way.
Even though it looks slimy, but it's just...
It's good.
It's really good.
Are you going to try it?
Yes.
It's good, right?
It's good.
This restaurant is called Banu Beef Palau, and Banu is a city in northern Pakistan, and
it kind of is on the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
So, supposedly, this is a half Afghani dish, half Pakistani dish.
You have influences from both, and it creates this wonderful plate.
For this lovely meal, it was 700 rupees, and it was worth every rupee.
It was so good.
My meal is intended for one person.
I split it with Hassan.
Amir does not eat meat, so I know seeing the bone marrow on the plate, he was hating life,
and I feel bad.
But it's intended for one person.
That's a huge plate.
You definitely get a lot in portion size here.
Cake and bakes in Pakistan, cupcake and cake flavors, different bread rolls, and pineapple,
chocolate.
We have a cakes and bakes right...
Okay, there you can see.
We have a cakes and bakes right across from our hotel.
So, it was kind of busy in here, and I really wanted to try something.
Hassan told me to get naan katai.
So, let's try it.
Mmm.
That's really good.
Yeah.
There's a whole almonds in here, but one thing I don't like is like an extreme almond flavor,
and this does not have that.
It just pretty much tastes like a butter cookie with almonds inside.
This is really good, and I'm going to be eating the whole thing.
Do you want to try it?
Yeah, sure.
All right.
This is something Amir can try.
It's good.
Right?
It's sweet and it's salty, so that's really nice, and it's crunchy.
Yeah.
Crunchy, sweet, and salty.
Really good.
Good recommendation to Nikki.
I said, let's go here.
Yeah, let's go.
Oh, it's a coffee shop?
Yes.
Oh, my God.
So, that was a little coffee stand, or a coffee shop, as Hassan said.
Something interesting that I have noticed about Pakistan is there are a ton of birds here,
and not just like pigeons and crows like you see in the U.S.
I thought they were eagles.
They are huge.
They are beautiful, and we saw one.
We saw one last night, and I was freaking out because I was like, oh, my gosh.
We have a rare sighting of this really cool bird, and then today, I'm seeing like millions
in the sky.
So, it's super normal here, but I think that that's really cool.
We are at none other than Master Biryani.
So, they are masters at making biryani.
Let's hope.
Hassan said that they're really good, and I trust everything he says.
So, you're going to help me eat this, right?
Yes.
Okay.
I'll have one veg biryani, please.
Veg?
Yeah.
You're going to do a veg?
They don't have it.
I'm joking.
Oh.
No, there's no option here.
Oh, so no veg.
No.
I'll just watch you guys eat.
That chicken slides right off of the bone.
So, I can only imagine how tender it is.
Let's try.
Oh, wow.
This chicken is so tender.
Master Biryani has some unique secret recipes, so I don't know everything that went into
this biryani, but the rice has so much spice in it.
It's so good.
The biryani was not spicy at all until the very last bite.
I must have bitten into a pepper or had a certain spice that just blew my mouth up.
My mouth is on fire, but I had some water.
I'm recovering.
I'm doing a little bit better, but the biryani was so good.
So, it was a great way to end Varkot Market, and now we are headed over to Kareem Block
to get some more food and check out that area.
We just got out of the Uber.
Now, we are at Kareem Block, and we're going to explore it.
So, I'm excited.
What do we have here?
All right.
There we have dal.
We have been having dal like every single day at the hotel, so I think we are going
to keep moving.
But the dal looked really good and smelled really good as well.
Yeah, you might as well try it, right?
Ooh, it's like a lentil cake.
Chana dal.
Here we have chana dal.
It's made out of lentils, so it's like a lentil hot cake.
So, let's try the chana dal.
So, we got mint sauce and plum sauce.
The plum sauce is really sweet.
It's not extremely flavorful, but like the actual chana dal isn't extremely flavorful,
but it's still good.
It would be a good side, which I'm sure that's what it is.
We are also on a little mission to find Amir some shoes here.
Hassan gets his shoes here.
I'm going to show the camera.
Your guys' shoes are like the same.
Mine are really old.
Tap your little feet together.
Oh, you pretty much got everything here.
You've got backpacks.
It's a lot of men's clothes here, huh?
More men's than women.
Okay, but the women have a shop.
They've got a storefront.
There's also men's clothes in there as well.
But lots of women's clothes, whereas the men's clothes are on the street.
It's very sweet.
You bite into it and you feel like it's liquid sugar coming out.
Yeah, it's very sweet.
You got it there?
There's the fit.
In here, it looks like a butcher shop.
You've got some chickens, and I think you're able to choose your chicken,
and then it literally goes on the chopping block.
Do you get your haircuts here?
No.
Have you ever?
What?
Have you ever gotten your haircuts?
No.
Well, there are some trustworthy people in the neighborhood
because he has a little line.
Okay, the shape-up is good.
I don't even know if that's what it's called,
but I think it's called a shape-up when they cut the back.
How cool that you can just be walking in Lahore
and then you see a barbershop in the street.
It's a pretty nice location as well.
Yeah.
This is a really nice location.
Imagine getting your haircut, facing the park.
You've got trees hanging over you.
You don't have to imagine it because it's right behind me.
Okay.
What was that?
Okay.
He also pushed my back.
This is my shoe shop, I think.
That little boy did call me auntie.
I'm not old enough to be called auntie.
I guess you could be his mom technically.
I could be his mom technically, I guess.
He called me bro.
Shut up.
Oh, my gosh.
This is like shoe heaven.
All of these areas are shoe stores.
Oh, this is very tight.
I cannot.
Oh, my gosh.
It's tight when you're sitting down.
No, I can't even put it in my feet.
This is last size.
That's the biggest size?
This is big size.
Wow.
Amir, you've got big feet.
I cannot.
Too small.
This is Har...
What's the street?
Food.
Oh, all of food street.
Oh, I could tell.
The vibe completely changed.
It went from like clothes and shops to food.
I just got some orange juice.
We kept walking by all these juice stands.
I'm so thirsty.
So, since we're out, I'm trying not to drink too much water.
But for some reason, I could not pass up some fresh squeezed orange juice.
So, that is what we're gonna get.
And then I also made a new friend.
And then right in front of us, there's just a guy with a monkey in his hand with a collar on.
So, it's a domesticated monkey.
I feel bad seeing it domesticated.
Thank you.
For one orange juice, it is 200 rupees.
So, we paid four because we got two orange juices.
I got one and Hasan got one.
So, I might not drink all of the orange juice because the taste is a little...
It kind of tastes like there's tap water in the orange juice.
It's just kind of like a...
If sulfur had a taste, it might be that.
But you can still taste the orange.
It's not bad.
I could drink it.
But it's...
I don't want to get...
I don't want my stomach to be upset.
So, that's the only reason why I'm hesitant to drink the orange juice.
Here, they serve a lot of the same dishes that we had earlier.
And they look just as good.
They look really good.
Would you say every place here, the food is going to be really good?
Yeah.
I can tell.
Just by the smells, you can tell how good it is.
And obviously, by your eyes.
But the two combined, you just know it's going to be such a good meal.
Even though this market looks really busy right now, at nighttime, it multiplies by about five.
So, there's about five times as many people at night as during the day,
which is hard to imagine because I feel like there's a lot of people out now.
But I guess at night, it's crazy.
You can tell so many people come to this specific block.
Thank you guys so much for coming along with me today.
I hope you enjoyed the video.
It's my first time in Pakistan.
And it's my first time trying street food in Pakistan.
And it was an incredible day, an incredible experience.
It was so nice of Hassan to show us around and show us some of the best street food that you can get in Lahore.
I hope you guys enjoyed the video, and I will see you in the next one.
Bye.
