morning guys welcome back to my lot
Diaries my name's Emma these are my lot
Diaries I'm just walking to my lot plot
and now that all the flowers are out and
everything's sort of become green again
got the cow parsley the blue bells I
can't believe that this is in South
London and like I'm not in the middle of
a Countryside it's actually insane The
View on my way in I mean you can
probably hear the building work that's
probably the only giveaway that we're in
London still see amount of building work
but this you and this is like my walk up
to the allotment plot and it just feels
like I'm in a different world like you
just leave London and all of a sudden
I'm here it's just magical
[Music]
[Music]
and then just like magic we
emerge into the allotment plots it's
like a little secret slice of paradise
hidden behind these B Gates and it's
just amazing remember the first time I
came here and I was just like amazed
when I walked through the gates and saw
all the space all this stuff growing
it's like you just you'd never know it
was here unless you knew it was here do
you know what I mean cuz it's just so
concealed and so hidden but here it is
and it's just magical it's just as
magical now as when I first got my
[Music]
plot well anyway I was just feeling
super grateful this morning when I was
walking through because it is
temperature has dropped it is quite cold
um we've had a lot of rain and it does
just feel significantly colder in the UK
at the moments I'm just trying to be
really grateful for everything and that
Walkin at this time of year is just
something to be grateful for so um we do
have a little bit of sun today you see
the sun is out a little bit so we're
going to enjoy every second of it cuz I
don't think we'll do much of it I hope
you had a lovely weekend I feel really
tired today I feel really run down
exhausted um a little bit anxious all
the above basically so I thought coming
down here this morning and just doing a
little bit of a look around doing a
little a few little bitty jobs might
sort perk me up a little bit plot is
looking stunning but there's two things
we need to check on isn't there two
things we need to check on so number one
we need to check on our new brassas so
let's go see if they're still
alive right so at the moment I'm going
to say alive they're all looking pretty
much as I left them um which doesn't say
much because it takes a few days for the
Slugs and snails to get their hands on
them but but we're going to hope we're
going to live in hope that these are
just going to live right let's go check
on the other
[Music]
things he not going to scare anyone away
if he's looking all weird or is he maybe
that's better I don't
know so the gladioli that I planted in
here are all coming up so
beautifully all exactly where I planted
them as well just quite unusual for them
they tend to pop up anywhere whenever I
plant them um but yeah they're doing
fantastic and we do have some growth on
our daers as well so that is really
really good news excellent news yes
definitely there is growth on the daer
the broad beans are green and they are
looking alive so I'm going to take that
as a win and I'm just going to sort of
let them do their thing I might buy a
few plug plants in a shop and just fill
in the gaps where the slugs have got to
them but on the whole they're okay
[Music]
so this bed here is going to have sweet
corn in it and I have sewn my sweet corn
at home I've actually sewn two or three
different varieties um and I've
succession sewn them so we should have
quite a bit of sweet corn going on in
here and the whole bed I want to be just
sweet corn next to that we've got the
um Sweet Pea te pee and I I don't it's
not doing as well as I wanted it to do I
mean I have SE them out very very early
they are flip-flopping all over the
place some of them have snapped some
have been eaten but they are still alive
there is a lot of green here and I do
think if we just get some warmer weather
they will just sort of get going and be
okay this is my apple tree that I found
on the plot and it's alive it's still
alive so I chopped off that massive
branch which I'm actually really
aggressive now cuz somebody said why
didn't you just put an archery over here
and train it over the archery how
beautiful would that been but I didn't
think of that I just chopped him off but
he is still alive he's coming
[Music]
back lovely so this is my flower bed I
put corn flowers in it absolutely ages
ago and it all got eaten so I resoed all
the corn flowers again and I'm really
happy to say they are all coming up
somebody said how do I know these are
the corn flowers I just know I just I
can't I think I've seen them before but
I just know that these are corn flowers
this is some kind of Rogue grass which I
need to get rid of and these are corn
flowers and that's just what I know
that's just what I know but yeah they're
all coming up fantastic I just know that
these are corn flowers I think this
might be Cosmos that looks like a cosmos
seed Ling coming up that's what they
look like at home and here too these
little grassy ones they look like Cosmos
so I think this bed's doing quite well I
think the slug list has really helped
I'm not sure if you guys have helped but
you look quite
pretty so then we come down here a bit
to the peas now I was absolutely
determined to get peas this year so I
did put down pellet slugas um bulbed
wire I mean whatever I put down it's
like it's half worked there are a couple
of peas that have disappeared as you can
see just been completely eaten but there
are quite a few peas that are doing
significantly well so I think what I
need to do today is tighten up the the
structure on this and make sure that
they have something significant to climb
up but they seem to be doing okay I
really hope these ones survive I just
really hope they do because I've never
managed to grow peeves before
successfully I think I grew like three
Peeves in my first year and I never
managed to do it again
so hopefully we'll um we'll have some
peas oh this bed here last time I was
here I quickly whacked in some lettuce
it doesn't look very healthy I don't
think I've done a very good job at it um
but it is like red lettuce basically
it's like a red variety of lettuce I I
don't know I think I might have killed
quite a few of them when I just pulled
them out pulled them apart we have got
the old what's it called the parsnips
coming up nicely there there is some
beach roots coming up in this row here
then we got some more lettuce and then
this is the spinach coming up it it does
all seem to be growing it's taking its
sweet time this bed but there's
definitely some life in it this bed is
alive I have total faith in that bed
total Faith um the rocket seeds are
doing well they're all coming up here we
have rocket we have rocket we have
rocket over there these are dying these
chips now these are finished um but yeah
the rocket is doing fantastic um no sign
of run of beans yet but I'm sure they'll
come up soon and then just finally over
here all of my early potatoes are just
doing absolutely
fantastically um and we're still waiting
for the main crop to rear its head come
on main crop you can do
it that's just my little overview of the
plots I hope you enjoyed that I haven't
sort of gone around and shown you what's
actually growing everywhere for a while
um but yeah hope hope you liked that
let's get on with some jobs so the job
I'm going to do today is actually get on
with some weeding uh I can see some weed
starting to pop up but in particular
Weirs that I haven't sort of pulled out
when I did the plots up I sort of left
to see what they would do and come back
to another time well now they're
becoming a problem so for example I
never dug these giant brambl out these
Blackberry canes out and they are going
to cause a problem cuz they are just
going to absolutely overtake this
likewise there seems to be quite a few
brambles here and also some bind weed as
well which I do want to get rid of
because that's just going to swarm this
area and it's going to turn into an
absolute weedy mess at the the moment we
can get away with it being quite I don't
know Whimsical and pretty but it's going
to get out of hand over here too is
going to get quite out of hand so we're
just going to tackle as much of that as
we can so let's get going
[Music]
[Music]
oh my God it's
Absolut in
[Music]
there I can't
even begin to move it
look my
god oh my
god that's literally ridiculous
[Music]
that's the only way I can get rid of
that fixing it
[Music]
[Music]
bind weed is this this is bindweed um
this is what it does you see this here
this is a sort of finished dead tulip
can you see how the bindweed is wrapped
itself around the Tulip that's what
bindweed does that's why we call it
bindweed cuz it binds itself to other
plants it wraps itself around to try and
get higher and higher and higher to get
up to the sunlight and by doing that it
starves the plant of sunlight um
resources it strangles it and it's just
evil it's just absolutely evil um it is
so hard to rid your plot completely of
bind weed so I inherited a plot so my
last plot was absolutely full of bind
weed this plot is also full of bind weed
and all
inhaled my hair all I've done to keep it
under control is to keep doing no digs
so keep layering up your beds with more
more organic material and don't dig it
so it doesn't disturb the roots um but
also just keep pulling it out just keep
pulling it out every time you see it
don't let it get really big eventually
it will start to die it can't survive
forever guys so just keep attacking it
keep pulling it up keep smothering it
keep doing whatever you're doing and um
if eventually eventually you'll get on
top of it but it does take time don't
get frustrated it's an absolute Survivor
it's an absolute surviv
[Music]

[Music]
[Music]
right okay what's going on under here
what's going on under here
guys not much do we have any carrot
we have like two carrots and a potato
don't want a potato there and we got
potatoes there which is so
Random okay this is where I sewed two
rows of carrots very early in the year
you can see I've got 1 two three there
four five
six seven is not even in a row I feel
like it was probably far too early for
carrots when I sewed them out I was
being very optimistic so I'm going to
sew in a couple of new rows of carrot
cover them over again and see how they
do we can only just keep whacking stuff
in but let's do it just exactly the same
Rose I think we just re REO them really
so scoot around you scoot around
you stick them in there mooth
Str the thing with carrot seeds is
they're so small they dry out so quickly
and if they dry out they die they're
just dead seeds in the ground basically
so you really got to make sure they do
not dry out and the way to do that the
way that I do that is to cover them
cover them with cl or something or
fleece
just literally killed the only carrots
I've actually got growing
but it's okay it's not enough it's just
not enough stro it all right let's get
some
water I'm covering them because
obviously of the cold but mainly just to
keep them like moist stop them from
drying out
I don't really want them to dry
out that
down right let's have a little look at
this PE structure then cuz it's a little
bit too flimsy for peas to to grow up I
think so what we're going to do first of
all I need to attach this and I thought
I'd use some cable tires cuz this keeps
blowing around in the Wind
the wrong way it's okay I will learn one
day what the right way
is no that was the right way oh my
goodness it's that way okay it doesn't
tighten there we
are right now these are a bit flimsy so
what we're going to
do well I don't know what are we going
to do
well I think we should add some
horizontal some horizontal structure to
it let's do that should I go in and
out no it's not
necessary it's not
necessary through this
way sorry sorry sorry PE sorry sorry
sorry sorry sorry sorry
sorry yeah I think that's going to to
work I think that's what it needed I
think it needs the horizontal structure
I don't think the vertical ones are
working very well so I'm going to just
make my way up
[Music]
really just think it so complicated
don't
[Music]
I just by adding that bit of horizontal
structure the P's are so much more
supported I actually think the
crisscross is so much better I just wish
I hadn't used this twine cuz it is so
flimsy and it just unravels whereas this
one's got a bit more of a plasticky
plasticky kind of material and it's just
so much better it's so much tighter um
yeah oh the peas are alive that is
excellent maybe I will actually get peas
this year that would be incredible also
if they do work I'm going to plant some
snap peas in there as well and try those
up the same up same structure this is my
um Perpetual spinach and it's actually
flowering and I am so excited to see
what the flowers look like I'm just
going to leave them to do their thing
but they just look stunning absolutely
stunning this is going to be flowers at
the top but yeah look how tall it gets
as well it's just crazy I absolutely
love allowing crops to flower um at home
I've got my parsnips that I didn't pick
last year and they are about to flower
as well and I can't wait to see parip
flowers so beautiful
when we arrived the weather oh my gosh
the weather was so sunny and now it's
just like becoming cloudy windy rainy
cold welcome to Spring in Britain you
never know what the weather's going to
do from moment to moment you have to
wear a t-shirt a bikini um three layers
of jumpers a coat a rain hat and and
take Sun cream as well just in case
that's what you have to do in Britain at
the moment right one last job before I
go is I'm just going to gosh I don't get
trapped in my
shed I'm just going to use some more
little pellets around where I can see
they sort disappeared um just to keep on
top of it really I don't love doing this
guys it's not something I want to be
doing but somebody just send me a
message and said the slugs are in full
force this year cuz of the weather that
we've had like all the the wet weather
um so it's just brought them all out so
there's nothing I can do I've just got
to battle them
[Music]
like I said not my favorite job
Einstein's having to go at me I know I
don't want to do at Einstein but I've
got to cuz you don't eat them all that's
why cuz you don't eat them all help me
out a bit anyway I hope you've enjoyed
my Vlog today I don't know if I've got
quite a full one here but um just fancy
popping down doing a few little odd jobs
if you are enjoying my videos I'd love
for you to subscribe to my channel and I
will see you again with Einstein
hopefully on Wednesday day have a lovely
gardening week see you Wednesday guys
thanks for watching bye
