Hey there, Dr. Jason Kim here. Thanks for joining our YouTube channel and continue to comment, post questions and just send us whatever is on your mind so that we can find answers and solutions for you.
And so for today's episode, actually we had a question about this picture here.
So if we look at this picture, it actually kind of looks a little creepy.
It's actually a CBCT.
It's a three-dimensional picture showing a lot of teeth.
Now this gives us a lot of information.
And the parent was a little concerned asking, is this normal?
And I will tell you, yes, this is absolutely normal because it's showing us this child in the developmental stages, right?
So we can kind of guess how old this patient is by looking at this CBCT, this picture.
This is a cone beam. It's a 3D picture.
And it's showing us how many teeth are being developed, where they're being developed.
But it also gives us an idea if there's any disease or any pathology that may be present.
And so sometimes dentists may recommend getting a CBCT, a three-dimensional to see if there's any anomaly, any disease, any infection, pathology.
So this is a good picture. It's a normal picture, right?
But it's not always recommended.
Only in cases where there may be some concern, the dentist may recommend getting a CBCT.
But in cases, maybe in orthodontic cases, maybe this is a case where the patient is going to be doing some orthodontic treatment.
They want to see the developmental patterns.
They want to see maybe the jaws, the nerves and things like that.
And just to kind of stage and see how they can plan the case.
But just, you know, having this kind of information just allows us to be able to plan our cases much more efficiently.
Helps us to treatment plan cases that's proper for that particular patient.
And so hopefully that helps.
If you have one of these pictures and you have some questions, seek your local dentist to get a consultation about if there's anything wrong or normal about that picture.
So thanks for joining us. We'll see you next time.
