Yo good morning everyone. Today I'm off snowboarding in Mammoth Mountain, California.
Mammoth I think is one of the main hubs for snowboarding. It's May up here and there's still
tons of snow. Today's a special video as well because I'm meeting up with Janice Batteri
and the last time we rode with Janice was before she went to the Olympics. So stoked to be up here.
Looks like an amazing day. Perfect spring park day up here at Mammoth.
Ricky are you filming as well? Yeah I'm doing a live stream right now. Oh no way.
Say hey to the live stream. What's up everyone?
So you're thinking of doing a tame dog in the small park? Yeah that's my dream. Oh man okay.
How are you so comfortable going backwards like that all the time?
Oh I'm way less like I would rather do a switchboard than a backboard regular.
You sent it. That second jump is so loopy today. It was poppy. I got in the air. I thought I was
gonna miss the whole landing and then it was fine. Janice how was the Olympics? I remember
the last thing I remember was seeing Janice like in your hotel room like waiting for your flight
to get there and I was like so nervous that you weren't gonna actually get to China. Yeah it was
I had to have a connection in Istanbul. When I finally got my last negative test I needed to
get on the flight I was like yes I'm going to Olympics and then I get to Istanbul and they're
like no you can't get on this flight and I was like oh my god I'm not going to the Olympics.
Wow. And so I was freaking out just thinking like okay well that's it it was too good to be true.
Olympics are over but yeah. It all came through. What was the experience like? Was there anything
say one to ten experience-wise but also anything that you didn't expect? Experience-wise it was
kind of like a three. Oh no. What? I got so unlucky with going during like COVID Olympics. Okay.
Where we weren't allowed to stay for the full Olympics. We had to leave within 48 hours of our
event finishing so it was like when competed had like one day and then literally had to leave the
next day. So it's just like all business. Yeah all business there was no like because part of the
Olympics is getting to meet athletes from other countries and so we couldn't hang out with anyone
because we were getting COVID tested every day so everyone was scared of getting pulled out of the
games. Yeah. So like there was no social interaction. Wow. But so like I didn't know
these things but then in going through for the Parade of Nations they weren't allowed to cheer
for us they could only like clap but like they weren't allowed to yell because of it being like
COVID. So it was like really kind of quiet walking through the stadium. Yeah that's eerie. I had
wanted to go to um I was hoping to go the next one but things didn't line up but um I will be
working at the Paris Olympics this summer so I'm gonna be able to like. Oh sick. I'll hopefully get
like a more normal Olympics experience even though I won't be competing. Cool. So it'll be cool to
actually like get to be there in the venues at the events even though it's it'll be different.
Awesome. If you guys have any questions for Janice go check out her YouTube channel
I'll put a link down below. Yeah Olympics. Should I get redemption on a switchboard? I think so.
Super good work. I felt good about that one. All right Ricky what's the plan man?
Don't die. Don't die. I hit these yesterday. I hit all three yesterday.
To me this is a big huge jump. Like the second one yesterday I went I'm like I am so high in
there compared to skating you know I'm never that high and for that long. All right. It's so funny
because snow snowboard brain over here and Ricky's got the skateboard brain. Yeah it's fun to think
about the differences. Honestly that gets me so like because I do the speed check in between I'm
still like not that good control you know. That looks. But hey I survived. I cleared everyone
clean I think right? It was super clean. Stressful. That last one really didn't send me up. It kicks
you. You guys are watches you got to go back and watch when me Kevin, TJ and David were at
Bear Mountain. Some of the best YouTube snowboard videos that have ever hit the internet. 2019 Bear.
Honestly like I'll go back and re-watch them and they're still so fun. I can't believe that was
five years ago. We need to have like a reunion again. Can we do that this winter? Drop it in the
comments if we should have an all OG snowboard YouTube reunion. Yes. Next winner. Janice, David,
TJ and we'll get Ricky. Ricky part of the crew this year.
How does a skate rail feel different than a snowboard? One big thing that I've noticed,
two big things. When I approach a 50 50 on a skateboard I usually cut a wide angle and then
I lock into my trucks and it helps me position better. On a snowboard I try to do that and I go
and I slam. So they tell me to always go more parallel so that's one. What I've learned for
boardslides too is in skating or boardslides and whipslides I'm more in the back seat like
leaning back pushing forward. Okay. And I tried it on snowboarding I always slipped out every time.
Okay. So now I am always like lean more forward be more like directly over it whereas in skating
I'm kind of back seating pushing forward. Oh because like on a skateboard you have like the
more friction? Yeah and you can kind of like have a little bit more play there. Okay wow interesting.
I feel like you're gonna get redemption on that front lift.
No he still has it. Did he ride out enough? I think he did. I think he rode out. Good work.
Oh yeah one more. You got that though. That was a land for sure. Did he do it great? No that went
He's after it. Faster. Yes. Oh he's clean. Perfect. Textbook. Couldn't have done better.
That was perfect. Yeah that was amazing. Janice what is that thing right there?
Is there is that something? Did he drop something? Car keys. What kind of car is it? Oh it's a
Mercedes. Have you ever been on a game show? I won a car on a game show actually. What? Yeah.
I won a Volkswagen Jetta. Ricky what's your skating journey been like? My skating journey?
It's been pretty good. So I moved to America about four years ago to work with Braille
skateboarding. That's kind of like the most recent thing that I've really done and that
has been like really fun and like for sure like changed my life on social media and stuff like
in Australia I was kind of grinding and stuff mainly on Instagram but then when I moved and
I started getting more into YouTube and TikTok then I kind of started getting more into like
all of the different social medias so now I'm like pretty diverse on all of them you know.
Yeah. Shout out to my live streamers watching right now on Twitch. Yeah so I would say I'm
more of like a content creator is like my job and then skating is like my love and my passion you
know. Yeah because now with social media like you can kind of put your own spin on skating too
right? Exactly. The way you deliver your parts, the way you talk about skating. Exactly and have
a deeper relationship. When I was growing up pros would release a video part every few years.
Yeah. I've never even heard some of them talk. Some of the ones that I love never even heard
them speak a word. I've just seen their video part and love their skating. So now it's a little
bit more interesting you kind of get to know the personalities and you feel like you can sort of
like hang out with them and learn through them rather than just admiring their skating from
afar you know. Yeah and it's a good way too to like extend your career probably as well. Yeah
exactly. You can only be at that like top like one percent for so long. Exactly. Even if you're at
like two or three percent like but you're having other things to offer like you're doing. And the
way that I kind of view it too is like when you're a pro you're relying on every other media outlet
to like promote you and stuff and then you're just the singular skater. Yeah. But when you're doing
content it's like you are the skater and you are the media company. So then you can kind of be in
control of both and it can be you know financially more feasible for you to like keep doing what you
want to do. For sure. One of my first like when I started my YouTube channel like there wasn't a ton
of other snowboarders doing it but at that time I remember Braille. Yeah. It was like the like up and
coming YouTube channels. Yeah. Oh this is so cool. There was like a parallel in skateboarding. Totally.
And Aaron actually grew up snowboarding in Montana. Right. Like I've seen like nose press like a big
street handrails and stuff. Yeah. You could YouTube like Aaron Cairo snowboard video pod or something.
Sick. Yeah. He was pretty good like back in 2004 or something. Yeah like really long ago. He hasn't
snowboarded in ages but back then like he's pretty good I think. That's sick. Awesome man. Well we'll
have to do more snowboard trips. Yeah. I like skate and snow. Skate and snow. For sure.
So
we went out snowboarding today at Mammoth. I'll link everyone's channels down below in
the description. Don't forget to subscribe here to Snowboard Pro Camp
and stay tuned because more videos to come from here at Mammoth.
