Is a Celsius drink good or bad for you? We're looking at the research and we're starting now.
We just looked at the Prime Energy drinks and they underwent an FDA investigation
for some marketing issues and supremely high caffeine content.
Now let's take a look at the even more popular Celsius energy drinks. These are marketed as
fitness drinks designed to boost metabolism, enhance energy, and aid in weight loss.
They contain a blend of ingredients including vitamins, minerals, caffeine, and other compounds.
Are these drinks actually good for you? Let's look at the ingredients, the benefits,
and the drawbacks to help you make an informed decision.
So number one, weight loss and performance.
Celsius is often marketed for its potential to aid in weight loss and enhance athletic performance.
Here's some statistics.
The classic Celsius energy drink has a very low calories per can.
So one can usually has about 10 calories.
The Celsius heat has 15 calories.
There's also a Celsius stevia which is zero calories.
The key point, there's no added sugars which is huge.
A lot of these energy drinks were loaded with tons of calories and tons of grams of sugar.
So compared to like a regular soda can, much less calories.
And for this reason, Celsius drinks do not contain the high calories that say like an
original Coke or like a Pepsi would contain, for example, or some of these more advanced drinks.
Artificial sweeteners, on the other hand, maintain the same sweetness
without increasing the calories significantly.
Now these do have their downsides as well, such as messing up the microbiome in your gut.
The ingredient breakdown on the other hand.
Caffeine.
This provides an energy boost without adding calories.
So you don't want to go too crazy on your caffeine, but some is good.
I like a lot of caffeine personally.
For caffeine, there's about 200 milligrams of caffeine, the equivalent of two cups of coffee.
This caffeine can give you more energy.
It also has a green tea extract.
So it's rich in antioxidants, which can boost metabolism.
It also has guarana seed extract.
This is another source of caffeine, but also contains antioxidants.
Ginger root.
This is known for its anti-inflammatory and digestion aiding properties.
So not bad there.
Vitamin C, this supports immune function and can act as an antioxidant.
B vitamins, B2, B3, B6, B12, and biotin.
These vitamins play various roles, but can help with energy metabolism.
Chromium.
This helps regulate blood sugar levels and may support weight management.
So there's a lot of pros.
It gives you energy.
The green tea is good.
The guarana is good.
The vitamins are definitely good.
It does not hurt in weight loss.
It's great for antioxidants, especially the vitamin C in there.
And it's low in calories.
So that's very helpful for sure.
But here's the downsides of the Celsius energy drink.
It's high in caffeine.
So that's a lot of caffeine.
You drink one or two of those, it's a lot.
It can make you jittery.
It can cause anxiety.
So you don't really want to drink more than one, maybe two.
Artificial sweeteners.
So sucralose is in there.
It can cause some digestive issues.
I know I'm sensitive.
If I drink more than one or two in a couple days, that can give me some issues.
And it's not suitable for everybody.
If you have caffeine sensitivity, heart conditions, you might want to avoid it.
Now, this is where Prime Energy Drink was investigated.
They marketed to teens because that's primarily the audience of some of the influencers,
like Jake Paul and KSI.
Even though they technically did not market to them, that was kind of the investigation.
I'm not saying anybody did anything wrong, but that's just the fact.
That's what happened.
It has the potential for overconsumption.
If you drink too much of this and you have heart issues, it could be a downside.
But the conclusion is the Celsius Energy Drink can be a really good option.
I know I enjoy them.
So from that standpoint, they are good for you.
They have a lot of great ingredients in there.
Now, is anybody verifying these ingredients?
I'm sure they do a good job, but nobody's actually going and inspecting these things
from an official source like they are for a prescription medication.
For example, it is a supplement at the end of the day.
So nobody really double checks this.
You have to trust the companies.
I'm not saying there's anything bad there.
The caffeine content can be pretty high, got a lot of great vitamins,
and it's not high in sugar.
I think that's the main thing.
Statistically, you want to cut down your sugar content.
If it messes up your gut microbiome, that might be one concern.
I know for me, it does not do well for me if I drink too many at once.
That's why I personally stop drinking these Celsius drinks and energy drinks in general.
But as a result, it's not the worst thing ever.
There's certainly not a lot of bad press, and it's a skyrocketing drink.
Everybody's buying these.
Most people I know are drinking these, and a lot of people enjoy them.
So definitely check them out.
Let me know, did I get it right?
Did I get it wrong?
