Welcome! Thank you for joining our adventure!
We’re headed to the Florida Keys and excited to share it with you! Let’s go!
Good morning. It's 6 a.m and it's time to get ready for our road trip.
You girls ready to go? Yeah. Road trip to Key West. Let's go. You ready to go? Yeah.
Road trip to Key West. Yes. Hi there. Do we have reservations for our campsite?
All right we made it to the campsite at Bahia Honda State Park and now we're going to go to
camper registration. Hi guys and welcome to our campsite. So this is our view
to a nice little campsite. We got a car, a grill thing, and a bench. So yeah that's our view though.
Well we have the tent all set up on this nice little site. It's small but it's big enough
for a car. There's a picnic table and still plenty of space to yourself with the most beautiful view.
We're gonna go explore now and see what we can find as far as the beach access where you can
actually swim. This is beautiful. Looks like there's some cabins over here too. I tried to
rent those but they were not available. Plus we actually wanted to do some camping this week.
Unfortunately you cannot get into this water. Signs that say deadly conditions keep out of water
so not sure what that's all about but we'll just enjoy the view and then go find the beach to
actually get into because it is hot today. It is about 90 degrees and probably 60 percent or so
It's pretty isn't it? Probably getting clay in this water. Yeah it might be sharp on the rocks.
Look at that wall of water straight in front of us. That's amazing. It's probably coming this way
but that's all right. Just have to keep an eye out for the lightning. You guys having fun? Yeah.
You seeing anything cool? What's the matter little bear? She's splashing in water.
Oh the joys of having your sisters back. Look at the rain over there. It is but
there's no severe weather warning so I don't see any lightning associated with this yet.
Making video of the rain that's about to come our way.
We always have some more. Oh I feel the rain now.
We're pausing on the snorkeling activities. As you can see it's raining so this feels a little
sketchy. If your vehicle is any taller than this you might have a problem. You pop out on the other
side. Well this is what happens when you don't stake out your tent. It almost flew away during
the storm. Oopsies. Well bad news. We were so excited to come camping, the girls and I,
because we do lots of girls camping trips all the time prior to little bear and I
going on the AT, and so we're like yeah let's go to the Keys. Bahia Honda State Park has one site
that was open and available and so we jumped on it, threw the stuff in the car, you know just
really excited. Which means we didn't check the tent that we typically take when it's more than
a couple of us. And something told me I was like you know I should just go ahead and take both of
my Big Agnes tents and just tried and true. They're good to go. We just used them for 80 plus days
or at least the one. You guys know that we used the Tigerwall and I have a Copper Spur also so
both of them are rock solid tents. I was like no let me bring this big huge beautiful
palace that has lots of family memories. We've squeezed all six of us in here before
including the two dogs so that's what we did. Well when we got here we were so excited to go down
to the beach and go snorkeling before the rain set in so we threw up the tent real quick. We're
like oh we don't need to stake it, no big deal. Spent some time down at the beach. Well we just
got back. You guys saw that the tent had nearly blown away and everything is soaking wet inside.
Like everything. Like all the sleeping bags, all of the pillows, the blankets, you know just like
all the stuff. And it's still raining and I just checked the radar and there's lots more
rain to come and it's continuing to leak. So I think originally it just got waterlogged and wet
because of you know when it blew. Rain blew inside but now I'm looking at it and all the zippers
are leaking. I mean there's water on the floor. A lot of times thinking maybe it was just the
original you know wind blowing in from the storm that blew through when we were down at the beach.
It's not. It's leaking everywhere. So then I thought let me let me see is there a Walmart
nearby? I'll go grab a tent. Is there an outfitter nearby? I'll just go grab another tent
because we'll use it. You know love to be outside as a whole family and there isn't. It's like 84
miles away or something so it's quite a bit away. So we're trying to figure out what we should do
because clearly we have nothing to sleep on. Everything is soaking wet. It's still continuing
to leak and there's lots more rain coming because you know it's Florida in June.
So we're on an adventure. Mama's cooking dinner. Hey. I am not having it though.
So it turns out I think we can salvage the day. There's a lower amount of humidity right now
and the rain has stopped so we're airing out some of the sleeping bags to hopefully dry off
a little bit and we're drying out the inside of the tent and I think we're gonna be just fine.
Either that or we'll just sleep in the car. I don't know but yeah you just kind of make do.
You make do with what you have. Meanwhile there's all these things that are like running around and
jumping out at me. I've got a crab running around. I just lost it. Oh there it is. There's these big
curly-tailed lizards. I'll show you. Here's the crab that came running at me. Made me think it
was a spider. Whoa. There he goes. Hey little dude. And let's see if I can show you some of the
curly-tailed lizards. Oh look at this cool dude. Hey friend. Such a beautiful place.
It's a really nice campsite with a beautiful view. These curly-tailed lizards.
Here's the cool dude. They're running around everywhere. They're huge. It's hard to tell how
big they are but they're definitely not like your household lizards. At least like not the
ones that we have at home. You guys are pretty big. Whoa and fast. Well the good news is that
whatever ends up happening with our tenting situation, spirits are high. We're embracing
the suck of it and sort of just moving on and having a good time. Oh it's alive. It was moving.
That's tiny. Wait for it. You just show them right next to the crab.
So much to see out here. Really cool. Yeah. There's something big in the water
that keeps making a big splash. I can't, every time I look up and see it, I'm only getting the
tail end. But it's not a dolphin. It doesn't have that same movement. Maybe it could be an otter.
I'm not sure. Hopefully we'll catch it. What? Oh yeah. It just zoomed kind of off right now
for some reason. So the ranger told us about a really great spot to catch the sunset.
Yeah that's a really pretty spot over here. But he told us there's a trail through here
and if we take this way down to the very edge of the water, we'll be able to see the best
view of the sunset. Although it kind of looks like where we're camping would be a perfect view
too. So we're gonna go check this out and see how the view is and we'll let you know.
We still have about 28 minutes until the sun's gonna set.
Yep I think this was the best view. He was right. I'm glad we took his advice.
So glad all of us get to enjoy this together.
Just missing the boys. No that's, what is that? Is that a fin? Oh it's a dolphin!
That is a dolphin. What is it? I thought I saw the um front.
So
well hello. We are ending day one of the Key West girls adventure. Yes. So we actually meant to do
this closure before it got completely pitch dark but we forgot. And so here we are going by the
light of little bear's new ducky. There it is. And we're gonna pass it around and tell you guys what
our favorite thing or the thing we are most grateful for, whatever, however we want to do it,
by way of who's holding that. So little bear you're holding it. Why don't you go first?
So I would say I really like long car drives. I really love like long car drives. So long
car drive and then swimming and then just chilling at camp. That's really my favorite thing today.
Yeah we've had fun. It was about a little over just over five hours to get here so it wasn't
too bad at all. It was a pretty easy drive. So all right pass the ducky. Don't turn it off.
My favorite part was probably the swimming. I like seeing all the
little fishies and I also really like swimming. Passing the ducky.
My favorite part was definitely yeah definitely long car drives because
I sleep like a baby on long car drives and except for today. I was like you woke me up early.
You can't sleep. And swimming and definitely the sunset we got to watch.
Pass the ducky to me. Yep. Sorry.
There's more of us now so it's hard to get everybody in the frame. My favorite part of
today was well thank you. You said recognition. Oh sure. Oh sorry. My favorite part of today
was waking up to our car already being packed for us this morning which was a complete and
total surprise because we meant to do it last night. Yeah. But we stayed up late all six of
us watching back-to-back movies and I was dreading doing it this morning. But Logan
thank you. You were a hero and it was already all packed up for us this morning when we woke up and
of course the sunset and swimming that was fun today. Yeah. So tomorrow today is day one of
camping. Tomorrow we have another day where I think we're gonna go swimming again. Yeah.
Snorkeling. Yep and we gotta look for something to eat. Maybe there's a little local restaurant
or something around here that we might try and we're either going to camp again or depending on
the integrity of our tent tonight we may or may not decide to chance it because it's
supposed to rain pretty much every day this week so we'll see. I don't know.
They've got the giggles. We've dried everything out and we're sleeping on semi-wet damp sleeping
bags and pillows and whatnot but Little Bear and I have gotten used to being comfortable
being uncomfortable and these other two are troopers and they're doing great too so
we're just embracing it and having fun. So we're gonna close out and we're gonna go outside and
look at do some of the stargazing outside because you can see a little bit of the stars coming out
now so that will be a lot of fun. I'm so happy all four of us are together. We miss the boys.
We love you guys. We miss you so much but this was a cool girl's trip so far. Yeah. All right
love and light to you all. We'll see you tomorrow. Bye.
