Hello.
From the memory of Jinko, I welcome you.
A window on traditional Chinese culture,
ancient stories and their profound wisdom
to offer inspiration to young and old.
An invitation for a journey
towards authenticity, goodness and tolerance.
Jiang Xia
has unfortunately looked back.
Taigongwang Jiang Xia
Jiang Xia is a famous character
from the novel The Investiture of the Gods.
In this story,
Jiang was the disciple of the master of the Mongolians,
Yuanshu Qianzu,
which means Lord,
original from heaven,
a Taoist deity.
At the age of 72,
he left his master
and helped King Wu of Shu,
Shi Hua,
and overthrew the pitiful King Su,
last ruler of the Shang dynasty.
Several supernatural beings
participated in the battle
between King Shu and King Wu,
including deities,
immortals,
demons,
spirits
and humans with magical powers.
Many of them later
conferred titles of gods by Jiang.
Reading the novel,
I really admired Jiang's loyalty to his master,
which was highlighted
when he was a high-ranking commander
and when he was about to die
following a secret attack.
However,
he made a mistake
that seemed insignificant
but caused endless troubles.
In the book,
when his master gave him
the Feng Shen Bang,
the Investiture of the Gods,
Jiang heard himself say,
After leaving this place,
no matter who calls you,
you can't answer.
If you answer,
36 enemy forces will wait for you.
This order seems simple,
but it can be difficult to follow.
When Jiang came down from the mountain
with the list of gods,
he heard someone calling him
but did not answer.
This person kept calling him.
He turned around
and saw that it was Shen Gong Bao,
a young disciple of Jiang's master.
After Shen ridiculed them verbally,
Jiang became confused
and almost burned the list of gods.
Fortunately,
Nanjie Xiangguang,
an old man from the South Pole,
a more senior disciple of the same master,
arrived and saved him.
This is an interesting episode.
Nanjie Xiangguang was the symbol
of longevity in Chinese history
and he was also the oldest disciple
of Jiang's master.
Seeing Jiang cheated by Shen,
he was worried and even encouraged Jiang.
However, Jiang was very naive
and begged Nanjie Xiangguang
to save Shen's life,
which he did against his will.
Shen eventually turned on the dark side
and caused many problems for Jiang in the future.
Jiang was a smart person,
but at that time
he had not fully realized the price to pay
for disobeying his master's warning.
Don't turn around if someone is calling you.
If he had burned the list of gods
when Shen duped him,
he would have had no way to compensate the loss.
On the other hand,
it was Jiang's mistake
to look back and forgive Shen,
which caused him enormous difficulties later.
During the following years,
Jiang and King Wu were attacked many times.
Jiang almost died
and many soldiers lost their lives.
The army remained in Xixi,
a place where it was almost massacred.
King Wu almost died in the red sands.
Jiang could not arrange these events,
even if he did his best.
Many disciples of his master
came one after the other to help him.
Shi Jingshu also died in the valley of the Falling Soul.
Most of Jiang's main disciples were captured,
especially in the valley of the Yellow River.
Although they were later saved by the master Wang Shijianzun,
they went from the immortal status to that of a normal person.
The most important thing
is that these problems could have been avoided
if Jiang had listened to his master
and had not looked back.
In other words,
it is very important to listen to his master's advice.
Otherwise,
useless obstacles will stand in the way of cultivation.
From the memory of Jinko,
thank you for listening to this podcast.
It is a pleasure to meet you for other stories.
