Today I'd like to show you the city of contrasts - Kuala Lumpur! This incredible and dynamic city is the capital of Malaysia. It has lots of great places to visit: from observation decks to galleries and museums. If you are planning a trip to KL - watch this video, it will help you to map out your journey in KL area.
I spend a week here and didn't discover everything, because its a lot to see and a lot to cover, especially if you want to visit local museums and galleries, where you will spend some time for sure, cause they are very interesting.
I visited Central part of the city where Merdeka Sq is located, as well as KLCC - where Twin Towers located and a few very cool museums, which I highly recomend to visit if you are travelling to KL.
Hey, what's up, guys?
Welcome back to my channel.
Well, another day, another story.
Today I'm in Kuala Lumpur, and this is capital of Malaysia.
Let's check it out.
I got to tell you one thing.
It's February right now, and it's hot as hell here.
It's about 94 degrees right now, and I'm literally melting.
Wow, amazing.
And you know what?
Not for nothing, but I'm loving it.
You know why?
Because in New York City right now, it's freezing.
So, yeah, I'll take this.
Yes, guys, 94 degrees, feeling really great,
and I want to show you this very central part of Kuala Lumpur
where Merdeka Square located.
And, of course, Sultan Abdul Samad building
located here as well.
Merdeka Square is the central square of the city, actually,
and the name translates as independent square.
Sultan Abdul Samad building originally housed the offices
of the British colonial administration
and was known simply as government offices
in its early years.
It was built back in 1897,
which makes this building 127 years old.
And no, guys, you cannot go inside of this building
because this is not a museum.
Since the independence of Malaysia,
several government offices located here.
Until 2007, it was actually the Federal Court of Malaysia.
And today, the building houses both the offices
of Ministry of Communications and Multimedia
and also the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of Malaysia.
All right, ladies and gentlemen, the Independence Square,
a pretty interesting place, actually,
located right in the central area of Kuala Lumpur.
It's a lot of things around here.
So, you know, if you're gonna be in the city,
stop by, check it out.
Well, with my luck, central area right now is actually,
well, the square itself, actually closed.
I don't know, maybe for, you know, some renovation work.
I don't know, maybe for preservation.
Maybe they're getting ready for some holiday.
I have no idea, but it is closed, but it's fine.
It's all right.
At least I can tell you one thing,
that the weather is beautiful.
It's hot as hell, and not for nothing,
I'm actually enjoying it.
I'm enjoying being completely sweaty and hot,
even though it probably sounds really nasty,
and I probably look nasty right now, all sweaty and red,
but you know what?
I don't care.
You know why?
Because my friend told me that in New York,
yesterday in New York was snow.
And I was like, you know what?
Enjoy the snow.
I'll enjoy this hot, humid, and sweaty weather,
at least for another week or so.
Hell yeah.
Well, ladies and gentlemen,
I decided to stop by National Museum of Textile.
Yeah.
You know why?
Well, if you've been subscribed to my channel,
you've probably seen the video from Bali,
where I'm talking about batik,
and batik is a really huge thing in Indonesia,
but Indonesia and Malaysia are pretty close,
and they have similar techniques.
That's why I decided to stop by,
because I see a lot of people here wearing batik as well.
So I was like, let me check it out.
So yeah, let's see.
But yeah, if you're gonna be in Kuala Lumpur,
check it out, this museum, it's interesting.
It's not big,
so it's not gonna take a lot of time,
but you know, it's interesting to know
what these people actually doing, and doing textiles.
And batik is very unique for this region,
for like Malaysia, Indonesia.
I've seen batik in Singapore.
So yeah, it's pretty cool.
It's pretty cool.
Interesting building across the river,
it's the Sultan Abdul Samad Mosque,
which you can visit if there is no prayer going on.
If there is a prayer time, guys, then you have to wait.
It is actually one of the oldest mosques in the city.
It was designed by a British architect,
I think his name was Arthur Habak.
The mosque was built back in 1909,
and the same person, the same architect,
actually designed Sultan Abdul Samad building
and Kuala Lumpur railway station.
All right, ladies and gentlemen.
Well, if we're talking about Kuala Lumpur,
I have to show you one of the most iconic
and the most recognizable symbol of this city,
the Petronas Twin Towers.
Yeah, I know that some people will say that,
listen, they built much taller buildings
in the city already.
But you know, Petronas, they're just beautiful.
Honestly, see it for yourself.
skyscrapers in Kuala Lumpur, standing at 451.9 meters tall.
From 1998 to 2004, they were officially designated
as the tallest buildings in the world.
And today, these are the tallest Twin Towers in the world.
They were opened back on August 31st, 1999.
And this year, it's their 25th anniversary.
So happy birthday to these iconic buildings.
This area is known as KLCC,
which stands for Kuala Lumpur City Center.
And here you can visit a lot of restaurants,
stores, aquarium, beautiful park with amazing fountain,
and of course, the observation deck at the Twin Towers,
which we are going to see right now.
Welcome to the Sky Bridge, guys.
It's a double-decker bridge connecting the two Twin Towers
on the 41st and 42nd floors,
holding actually the record
of the highest two-story bridge in the whole entire world.
The Sky Bridge also functions as a crucial design feature
for facilitating movement between the two towers
during high winds.
The bridge is 170 meters above the ground
and about 58 meters long.
It weighs 750 tons.
And when you're visiting the observation deck,
this is your very first stop.
After the bridge, you will be brought
to the 86th floor of the North Tower,
where you can see an incredible views of the city
and very close look at the South Tower as well.
I gotta say that this experience
was one of the best things I've done in Kuala Lumpur,
and it is totally worth of coming here.
But you gotta be aware, guys,
that tickets are very limited for each day,
so buy them online before coming here.
Trust me, you might see a sign
that for today tickets are sold out,
and it's only like, I don't know, 2 p.m.
It actually happened to me,
so I had to book tickets online for like two days in advance.
So yeah, just saying, be aware.
Well, ladies and gentlemen, pretty cool green carpet
actually leading towards the tower.
The tower is 421 meters tall.
But the most interesting thing,
I actually didn't know about it,
but from this point, you can see the brand new tower,
which is Merdeka 118,
and I believe 118 stands for the amount of floors.
But if you guys don't know, but it's a fact.
Merdeka 118 is the second tallest tower in the world
after Burj Khalifa,
so this building is actually pretty, pretty tall,
even though, I don't know, I can't tell you.
I gotta get closer to that building.
We will get closer to that building,
but for now, let's go on top of this tower
and see the views from up there,
because listen, the weather is not that hot,
and so far there is no rain,
so yeah, gotta catch that moment.
Let's go see the views.
Right next to KL Tower, I discovered a park,
which actually didn't look that big,
but once I entered it, I was amazed with its sizes
and very interesting trail system,
which included these bridges and towers
from where you can enjoy the atmosphere of this place.
Very cool place, guys.
If you're gonna be in the area, come and check it out.
You know what, guys?
Honestly, walking in this park right now is so relaxing.
It's incredible.
Wow.
Truly peaceful place.
In the middle of really, really busy city.
I mean, if you ever been to Kuala Lumpur,
you know that this city is quite busy.
It's a lot of things going on.
It's a lot of transportation, a lot of roads,
a lot of different subway lines, monorail lines.
It's a lot of things happening here.
A bunch of different buildings under construction,
so it's a lot of things happening.
The city is so alive,
but yet you have this very interesting,
very unique piece of nature right in the middle part.
Awesome.
Very awesome.
Wow.
Loving it.
Hey, if you're gonna be in Kuala Lumpur,
come check it out, this park.
I mean, listen, it's literally located
right next to the tower,
and here's the beautiful tower.
♪♪♪
Almost forgot to mention,
if you need to go somewhere in the city,
you can use subway or monorail.
It's very convenient and located
close to all major attractions.
You can also get a ticket
to hop-on, hop-off tourist buses.
They have about two lines in Kuala Lumpur,
and they're also gonna bring you everywhere you need to go.
Or you can simply use a taxi,
which is pretty cheap here.
So yeah, it's all up to you guys.
All right, guys, another pretty cool thing
about Kuala Lumpur is that you see
a complete mix of architecture here,
because in the central area,
you can find a lot of buildings
which actually remind me like a Moorish architecture.
Something like, you can see something like that
in Spain and Morocco,
but I never thought that I would see it here in Malaysia.
And not for nothing, yes,
they do have a Moorish architecture,
at least like it look like a few buildings here.
And another thing, which is what they have here,
they have Islamic Arts Museum,
and we're gonna go check it out as well,
because I think it's pretty interesting.
But before we're gonna hit the museum,
I wanna point out that this museum is located
right next to the National Mosque of Malaysia.
When I was in this area,
the mosque was closed due to the prayer time,
but in general, it is actually open for tourists as well.
So if you're gonna be in the area, come check it out.
Welcome to the Islamic Arts Museum of Malaysia, guys.
Very cool museum to visit.
It shows the beauty of Islamic arts in different forms,
from paintings and books,
inspired, of course, with Arabic script,
until domes and carpets,
which traditionally comes from Middle East and Central Asia.
And also it shows some architecture models
of different mosques around the globe,
from modern mosques of Abu Dhabi
till Blue Mosque in Istanbul
and Kalan Mosque in Bukhara, city of Uzbekistan.
You will see a lot here.
You know, jewelry, accessory styles,
and even the gates decorated with Islamic script.
All this is very awesome and beautiful things to see.
So if you wanna see something special, go here.
But Islamic Arts Museum is not the only place
which I wanna show you guys.
We are going to another place,
National Gallery of Malaysia,
where we will see some modern and classical works
of local artists.
Well, ladies and gentlemen,
another very interesting and beautiful place
to visit in Kuala Lumpur is National Arts Gallery.
I gotta tell you that the entrance is free,
so you don't have to pay for ticket.
You just, you know, come and roll around,
and not for nothing.
I mean, you know me, I love art.
I had to come here, I had to check it out,
and, you know, it's truly, truly interesting place,
truly interesting, pretty cool works here.
Me personally, well, I like it a lot.
Actually, the best thing about this art gallery
is that this is a perfect mix of, like,
classical arts and modern arts.
It's a lot of different things in here,
as you can see, guys.
And, I mean, hey, everybody got different tastes,
so if you're into modern art, come check it out.
If you're into more classical arts,
they also have some pieces of classical arts here as well,
so come check it out.
But the place is really interesting.
I'm liking it, yeah.
As you can see, guys,
Kuala Lumpur got a lot of interesting places to visit,
different museums, galleries, observation decks, parks,
and, of course, great food and pretty nice restaurants.
I went to different parts of the city, to be honest.
And Chinatown, of course, one of those places.
It is very interesting as well.
If you're gonna be in central area,
well, you will find it for sure.
It's pretty famous and very, very colorful.
Well, ladies and gentlemen, at this very moment,
I just wanna say thank you so much for your time.
Thank you for watching.
I hope you really enjoyed this video from Kuala Lumpur.
Please don't forget to like this video
and please don't forget to subscribe to my channel.
I'll see you later, guys.
Have a nice one.
Bye-bye.
