KING SALMON FISHING! Beach Camping on Lake Michigan (Catch & Cook)

So over the next two days I will be joined with Nick and Quinn who I've just met for the first time. We are going to be trolling, jigging, bobbers and skein, catching kings in the harbor, and we're actually going to be taking a trip up north to another harbor, camping on the beach along the way, and it should just be a rail fest. I'm excited. This is the first crazy adventure in my new boat. 1872 Stealth Weld by Stealthcraft. She's been fishy. All right guys, just getting out. We're going to spend the first probably two hours, three hours sitting here trolling around, and probably troll some crankbaits, J-plugs, action flies, and then we'll probably be swishing over some jigging and some skein on bottom. Multi-species kind of day. Bite was a little later, but you know what? We're getting on him right now. Yup, upside down. You're getting all the angles. Look at you man. So, all we're doing is we're just putting some salmon eggs on this hook right here. I'm going to have it under a bobber and all you're going to do is literally just sit there and stare at that bobber until it drops. Did you know that king salmon can smell in parts per million? They will not bite if you don't wear latex gloves. Oh, oh, that just got a bite. That just had a bite. Keep watching that rod. That rod for sure just got bit. Oh, fish, fish! Get that reel, get the reel, get the reel. Yes, there he is. Yup, he stole it. My rod's going to break for sure. And the fish ran into the prop and we snapped our rod in half. And that was actually completely my fault because I was being lazy and ran a fixed float. I grabbed the bobber. I'm getting like all the tubing off of it. Runs right under, gets stuck in our transducer. Makes it run under the motor. Gets caught in the motor. Rod tip snapped. Yup, nice custom Meg's rod. She'll still work. I think I took a pair of scissors and clipped her down nice and tight to that eyelet, but... Fish, fish, fish, fish. I'm just kidding. It's falling. Got him, got him. I stalked him. You saw that? Friends are friends. That's what we say here. And you know what? I got enough eggs. We'll let her do her thing, man. There you go. A little darker, but the biggest one today. Finally got one to cooperate. Nice female. Good job, Quinn. Alright, so we're just leaving port right now. I think we went three for seven. We got coho, medium-sized king, and a little bit bigger hen at the end. Now we're gonna go take it out to sea and try to find a nice place on the beach to hunker down, get camp set up, and then we're gonna go out afternoon trolling for some steelhead. Hopefully get some fish for a fish fry. Music to my ears. Yeah, see that looks nice and flat over there. Doesn't it? Yeah, right? See where it like drops off there? Right. Getting around some bright stuff. See if we can't poke a steelhead or two before the sun sets here in about two and a half, three hours. The Dewart Eye Pass back to the campsite begins now. We couldn't put a rotator out. Oh, good. There he is, there he is. It was on the slider, dude. How far out? Nope. Uh-oh, he's in the diver. Just slowly. What are we thinking? How are we feeling? Alright. I was actually kind of impressed. I always do this kind of fish fry with walleye and stuff. Never really tried it with salmon. It turned out really good. Lemon pepper too with the kings is the way to go. We just saw something. We just saw two glowing eyes. And we just saw something prance away. And it looked pretty big. It was not afraid of us. Barrett was well aware of it. And we're going to go check out these paw prints. Because it was not small. What is that? You see the nail here too? Yeah. Oh yeah, you can see the nail print. It looks like a dog. Like a coyote. You think so? It's nice and... It's like it lifts its paw to turn around or something. See how it's nice and on the bottom. Goes up and then... Yeah. I don't know. You might be able to see him fighting on that live scope a little bit. No, it's not. Yeah. It's a real kicker. So when you net this one, Quinn, I'm going to have you net him head first. I'll tell you when. But don't like drag the net in the water or anything. The one thing I was saying yesterday, I don't know if you remember, you're hearing it, but dude, they'll come up and they'll run right at the boat. You're like, oh, he's gone. And then it gets tight, like right under your feet. That fish came right up. I don't know if you saw that. You got that net ready? He's getting nearish. Well, dude, it's a nice fish. It's a nice one. Just staying out of the trolling motor. That's the biggest thing that worries me. See those head shakes? This is the biggest fish yet. Yes. All right. Go. Nice. Hey. Nice fish. It's a clean one. Dude, he almost jumped in the boat. Look at him thrashing. He's spinning like a coho. That's a coho. Oh, jeez. Took me a second. It's a decent size, too. Beauty. Look at that coho, man. Smoke the bag. Not the bag. Everything went airborne and then jumped and almost landed in the freaking boat. That was crazy. Oh, he's about to land out of the boat. No, he's landing in the cooler.
