Peace be upon you Bohemian family.
It's Mino and Amina.
We are at the night market of Jalan Alor.
This is Bukit Bintang, one of the busiest tourist hot spots in Kuala Lumpur.
In the heart of this bustling city, a market offering a variety of delicious street food
greets nearly 10,000 people every night.
Tonight we're gonna wander around and let our instincts guide us to where to go to eat.
Are you ready?
Our first stop is roasted whole lamb stall where the marinated lamb shines with a glossy glaze.
Once the outer part of the lamb is cooked to a certain point,
they slice it by section and start grilling it again.
The slightly charred smell of the marinade on the charcoal is quite tantalizing.
When the customer picks their desired cut, they trim it to a suitable size and weigh it.
After weighing the meat, he slices it quite thinly
and starts grilling it again over the charcoal.
Then he brushes the meat evenly with the secret barbecue sauce.
Adding the final touch of seasoning and smoky flavor from the charcoal.
Thank you.
Look at this spicy lamb shoulder!
Oh yes!
It's tender, juicy, smoky, spicy.
This meat has been cooked with such care that it's incredibly tender.
And despite being thinly sliced, it still holds plenty of its juices.
I choose medium spicy and this is perfect for me.
With sharp eyes, we set out once again in search of something delicious.
The smell was too good to ignore.
So we followed it and found a guy stir-frying spicy squid on a griddle.
So what kind of sauce it is?
Barbecue sauce.
Barbecue sauce?
Barbecue sauce.
A little bit spicy?
A little bit spicy.
When you pick either the squid's body or legs, he cuts it into bite-sized pieces.
Sprinkles it with chili powder and spices.
And stir-fries it again on the griddle with butter.
Look at this!
This is quite tender.
And I like this buttery barbecue sauce and spicy flavor.
I love this texture.
It's dancy but smooth and chewy.
Yes!
Putu!
What is this?
Palm sugar.
Palm sugar?
Yes.
With rice flour and coconut?
Coconut.
Putu, a bite-sized traditional snack is one of the most common street foods in Malaysia.
They put it in a funnel-shaped metal cylinder and steam it.
Then finish it off by adding shredded coconut on top.
Look at this Putu!
The rice flour gives it a slightly rough texture.
So it crumbles in your mouth when you take a bite.
Thanks to the coconut and palm sugar, it's nutty and sweet.
Making it a delicious snack any time of day.
This is so nice!
Is this beef?
This is lamb.
Lamb?
And this is chicken?
Yes.
This is crab.
Crab?
Barbeque crab!
Thank you so much!
Lamb satay!
Oh beef satay!
Very good!
We have chicken satay.
And beef satay.
I'm gonna try chicken satay first with peanut sauce.
Delicate combination of sweet and nutty flavor.
The meat has been marinated in coconut milk, lemongrass, sugar and curry powder.
Giving it a fragrant aroma and a slightly sweet taste.
And the sauce has a salty sweet flavor predominantly from the peanuts.
We've arrived at the most famous halal seafood spot in this night market.
Look at this fried barramundi with chili sauce!
Oh yes, oh my god!
The fragrant tender flesh of the barramundi and its crispy fried skin
mixed with the spicy and tangy sauce feel like a funky party in my mouth.
This tender crispy barramundi is perfect!
And stir-fried morning glory kangkung with garlic.
Thanks to our chef, this kangkung is very smoky.
The seasoning on these dishes is a bit salty.
So you really need to eat them with rice to fully enjoy the flavors.
This sweet chili sauce is perfect with rice.
I think I found a hidden gem in Jalan Alor street market.
Malaysia is truly a paradise for durian lovers.
When people choose different types and sizes of durian based on their preferences,
the staff skillfully cut the durians right on the spot.
I can smell the strong aroma of durian.
When I first tried durian, I couldn't stand the awful smell.
But now it feels like a heavenly fragrance to me.
This one black thorn.
Black thorn?
This is black thorn durian.
Smells amazing.
Super creamy, sweet and it has delicate flavor.
It tastes like garlic, cheese, almond and caramel at the same time.
This is king of fruits.
King of fruits!
My Moroccan brother from Tetouan.
What's your name?
Mohamed.
Mohamed, nice to meet you.
Masha'a Allah, we speak Darija.
Yes, Darija.
Masha'a Allah, God bless you.
